• Flight bookings to Europe from China during Chinese New Year period up

69% year on year

• By volume, North East Asia and South East Asia see the most trips although

are not growing as fast this year

• Bookings to UK up 88% (only Spain seeing faster growth among China’s top

25 destinations with 89%)

• UK has second most bookings for Chinese travellers to Europe during

Chinese New Year period (after Spain)

What the flight bookings data tells us

1. Timing of Chinese New Year has an effect

and is a window for visitors to the UK

2. Overall, early 2017 is showing positive

underlying growth

3. An increase in Chinese outbound travel

generally but UK seeing especially good

growth

4. This is a late booking market!

83% of Chinese respondents have at least some idea of the exchange rate against the

pound. 57% (rising to 82% of past visitors) say it makes them more likely to visit.
