I m honored, to be elected, as your president of your Tri-Town Chamber of Commerce for 2006. I know I speak for all the boardmembers when I say that we are very excited to continue the excellentwork that the 2005 board members have accomplished. I appreciate thehard work and time they donate to our chamber.

I look forward to your continuing support. We again have maintained oneof the highest percentages of membership in the country.

We will continue our support for the Kiwanis Ambulance, the Boonton

Firemans parade and Boonton Main Street programs.

In 2005, your chamber ran two trips to Atlantic City and held our firstannual golf outing. Both of these programs were very successful in fundingour scholarship program.

We are always looking for new and innovative ways to help and supportour members. One of those changes is our 2006 directory. We feel thisnew directory will help to increase support for our members. This newdirectory is being mailed to over 17,000 households and business in theTri-Town area, giving our members greater exposure than ever before. This directory will continue to be available at all Municipal Offices, Banks and other businesses in our area. Please keep it handy anduse it to patronize our local chamber members.

I promise that the board members and I will continue to bring new ideas to the table in order to increase your benefits of being achamber member.

I believe that if we work together as a team, we can accomplish anything.

The Tri-Town Chamber conducted anopen forum meeting on February 13th.As one would expect, the most talkedabout subject was the Boonton MainStreet lack of parking and the abuse of

the 2 hour parking limit. It would begreat if the town of Boonton would justpurchase a few rotten buildings, levelthem, and toss some pavement on thedead lots for parking. Unfortunatelythis is not going to happen. This is aconversation that is sounding very much like a broken record (if you remember whata record was). Joe Barone, proprietor of Top Of The Park Restaurant, suggestedthe Town of Boonton build a parking garage at the upper west end of Main Street. All agreed this would be a great idea and in the spirit of if you believe, you canachieve, Ann Krawiec will be heading a bake sale committee to raise funds for anew 5 story $10,892,000 structure. We expect groundbreaking sometime in theearly 22nd century.

Although it is common knowledge, many of the retail and non-retail businessowners are abusing the 2 hour parking rule. How do they abuse the rule? They movetheir vehicles every 2 hours, erase the tire chalk marks and many other devioustechniques. If you want more business we need to make it easy for people to shop. Please use the upper Plane Street parking lot. Its an all day parking facility for only$0.50 (Note: this will help raise funds for our new state of the art parking facility).

Back to reality, It was generally acknowledged that during the holiday season the

lower part of Main Street was lacking holiday spirit. The cited reasons were A) lackof holiday lighting and B) uncoordinated decorations. As much as the Chamberwould like to change this, it also requires community effort from the businessesalong Main Street. If the businesses would agree to put white lights in theirwindows, we will create a uniform appearance. One good deed can lead to another, and in this way we may attract more shoppers.
