August Business Member of the Month:
First Federal
First Federal opened in 1923 in Port Angeles, WA. 13 community leaders gathered in
a small office on Laurel Street in Downtown Port Angeles. These visionaries saw great
potential in this small but fast growing community in the Northwest. Over 92 years later,
with branches in Forks, Port Angeles, Sequim, Port Townsend and Silverdale, First Fed-
eral continues to set the standard for excellence in Community Banking. First Federal is
committed to knowing their customers and communities so they can provide them with
innovative solutions that help meet their financial goals and achieve their dreams.
First Federal is pleased to now be in Silverdale with their Bucklin Hill Branch, offering
choices that fit your lifestyle. Whether it be banking in the branch, online or mobile
banking, or the new Interactive Teller Machine (ITM) providing LIVE customer assis-
tance M-F, 7am – 7pm and Saturdays, 9am – 1pm; First Federal offers quality banking
through service, leadership and strong financial performance.
Coming Soon: Construction is underway for a new First Federal location in Belling-
ham, WA (1270 Barkley Boulevard) in November 2015.

Frank Says . . .
With the summer still upon us, I hope our members
are having great success in their business and are
getting a chance to enjoy this extraordinary weather
with friends and family.
I have had the honor of being President for seven
months and I can truly tell you time does fly. During this time I consistently
hear impressive feedback about our Chamber and how it impacts the com-
munity and businesses in Silverdale. None of this could be done without
the guidance of our Strategic Plan, Board, Staff and our dedicated Members
who volunteer their time to make the Chamber a success.
Want to be a part of the success? Right now the Military Affairs Committee
is looking for additional members to continue the great work it does with our
military community. They have many different programs you may be inter-
ested in helping with, including the annual Military Appreciation Day event in
the spring. Please don’t hesitate to contact the Chamber office if you are
interested in learning more about this committee and would like to attend a
meeting.
Our Government Affairs Committee is also getting ready for another elec-
tions cycle and anything that may impact your business. They recently
brought the Kitsap County Prosecutor, Tina Robinson, to the Good Morning
Kitsap meeting in July. Tina updated us on what is happening in her office
and was very happy to listen and answer our questions. Please contact
Gary Chaney or Connie Weisel to learn more about the Government Affairs
Committee and how you may be able to help.
The Chamber would like to say “Thank you” to Mike Walton and the Educa-
tion Committee. Their annual carnival was another success bringing in a
little more than $2000 dollars to be used for scholarships in 2016. Carnival
games, silent auctions, live auctions, good food and phenomenal people
made for a great day.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Sincerely,
Frank Ellerbroek

Kathleen Says . . .
It’s that time of year again – we are all concluding our
summer vacations, going back to school and in general,
just getting back in the groove again. For me, it is a time to look forward to
getting back into a rhythm of activity and productivity. I’m feeling refreshed
from a great summer with family, being outside enjoying this great commu-
nity that we live in.
Since everyone is gearing up to return to school, I thought I would take the
time to let our members know the many ways the Chamber helps our busi-
ness members. The Chamber improves community understanding of is-
sues of concern by presenting the business perspective on key issues. We
act as a training agent by conducting a variety of educational opportunities
to our community and members. We act as a sales manager to sell your
city, your products and services to people, attracting business through net-
working and referrals. We act as a public relations firm welcoming dignitar-
ies and new businesses to the community. Finally, we act as an informa-
tion center to assist our residents and visitors to our area. We are here to
help our growing community and to help our business members succeed.

Committee Contact Information As you August have noticed, this year we want everyone to get engaged in the Chamber and their community. One good way to do that is to get involved in a Chamber committee. It is only a small time commitment and you can really make a difference; not just in the Chamber, either, but for everyone in the community.
