For both manual and automatic picking the search distance (ms) maximum for snap point (e.g. snap to peak) can be different above and below the hand picked position. i.e. search distance – and + can be different values. Previously the search had to be the same – and +.

GENERAL:Cross Plot Regression Line Errors

Regression Lines are now plotted with the Normalized Standard Error also included. The Standard Error is calculated in a vertical or horizontal sense depending on the regression slope being greater than or less than 1 and then divided by the data range to yield the Normalized Standard Error.

Convolution is now available as a process for your seismic data. This can be done on the whole data or specific areas. Uses include convolving a reflectivity volume with a wavelet to produce a synthetic volume or applying a shaping filter to a seismic volume to change the waveform characteristics.

Deviated wells can now be correctly projected onto operator-selected arbitrary lines. This projection is now more reliable and can be used to compare volumes with wells in any direction.

In the Seismic Window Data Menu, if you choose Delete, then the data is just deleted from your current view and the list. In previous versions the data was immediately deleted from the project. The new menu makes this a safer option.

GENERAL: Empty Bin Trace Padding

Volumes with trace gaps were previously always loaded with gaps being removed from display, as to the left.

Traces can now be padded so holes in the data are clear. This is the option of padding between existing bins.

In CE7 the well paths for deviated wells that have a dip/azimuth survey are calculated using the Tangential method. In CE8 a more realistic method of calculating well path deviations is implemented using the Minimum Curvature Method.

Strata incorporates some new pre-stack data processes which include generating Angle Gathers. This is in order to support the new Pre-Stack Inversion which uses angle gathers as the input.

By identifying the wet trend relationships, the general relationship for the Shear Impedance and Density can be written as a combination of the wet rock trend and the difference from the wet trend, Δ, caused by hydrocarbons, i.e.,

The inversion algorithm then solves for the ZP, ΔZS and Δρ variables. By imposing the wet trend relationships, the inversion results are constrained and, by solving for independent variables, the inversion results are stabilized.

The final inversion results are volumes of ZP, ZS and ρ.

Pre-stack Inversion of seismic angle gathers to Acoustic Impedance (Zp), Shear Impedance (Zs) and, optionally, Density is now available.

The Hampson-Russell algorithm makes use of the fact that, in wet rocks, the Zs and Density are related to Zp. For example, the Castagna Mudrock Line and the Gardner Equation are relationships that can be identified from the well logs.

The well log data are cross-plotted and the background wet trends are identified.

The trend line slopes and intercepts are identified. These coefficients are used in the inversion algorithm.

Deviations from the wet trend lines are possible indicators of hydrocarbons.

In the new Pre-stack Inversion, different wavelets can be used for different angles.

EMERGE:Single Attribute Identity Transforms

A new option when creating Single Attribute Lists, is to only Apply the Identity Transforms to Attributes. This option ranks the results according to which attribute has the best 1-to-1 correlation.

For example, if the target log is P-impedance and your attributes include a number of different seismic inversions, this method will identify which seismic inversion has the closest match to the logs.

We have added RBF clustering. This is an improvement to the RBF neural network process. In CE7 the RBFN sets up N equations for N input training values. This is very time consuming with a large number of training points due to weights being calculated by inverting an N x N matrix.

Now in CE8 we use RBFN with clustering, which involves computing K cluster centers from our training data, where K << N. The result is much less calculations required. You can specify the number of clusters. Using this technique gives an answer which is still accurate to the full solution but has a fraction of the computation time.

3D volumes of the cross-correlation coefficients and time shifts between the monitor and the base survey are first computed.

The two volumes are then cross-plotted. A V-shaped polygon zone can be defined on the cross-plot (that is, there is more confidence in time shift values with higher cross-correlation values).

This zone can be used to define the variable time shifts that are applied to calibrate the two data sets.

PRO4D: Auto-Calibration ToolkitThe AutoAuto--CalibrationCalibration software is designed to convert 4D attribute maps to estimates of Pressure, Saturation change, contact thickness, etc… Attributes from the synthetic modeling are fed into the EMERGE prediction engine to find a relationship between the production parameter and the 4D attribute. The relationship is applied to the actual 4D anomaly maps to create maps of the production parameter.

First, synthetic seismic modeling is done in Pro4D using Systematic Changes to model the expected changes in the seismic waveform with production. Systematic Changes creates pseudo-3D volumes of synthetics.
