Sports Roundup First Aid Live Lesson

Basketball Activator Award Course

The following students were very successful in their basketball course and have since been awarded the Basketball Activator Award: Amber Pryor,Ellie Hughes, Rachel Reace, Megan Cox, Sandra Trajos, Faith Manjoro, Nicole Santos Bruce, Jade Meredith Sullivan, Yana Mason, Charlee Webb, Lisa Peck, Emma Peck & Chloe Smith. They took part in a 6 week programme with level 4 coach Roger Nuess. Roger taught them not only the skills of the games but how to umpire, officiate, health and safety and about setting up competitions. This Award demonstrates that the students have proficiency in the skills of basketball but also the ability to lead groups themselves and organise younger people and run competitions and events. Congratulations. Year 8 Rounders The year 8 girls rounders team last week had their first game against Ratton School and were amazing. They fielded well, batted well and were demonstrating great team work. Best batting came from Jasmine Lambert, Kim La Roche, Taylor Shaw, Rachel Wheeler and Elizabeth Campbell. They had a convincing win against Ratton 51/2 rounders to 31/2. They were unfortunate on the second game this week with an unfortunate couple of injuries & illnesses but tried their best but struggled to find their batting form losing to Willingdon. They play Bishop Bell on 20th June after REAL week . Years 7,8,9,10 Southdowns School Partnership Athletics Championships (Friday)

Rachel Wheeler and Jasmine Lambert performed well at The Sussex Schools Championships last weekend. Rachel for the high jump and Jasmine for the long jump. Jasmine managed to get a personal best so congratulations to her. Both will compete this Friday along with 35 students form The Causeway at the South Downs Sports Partnerships Athletics Championships held at The Sports Park.

Friday see’s our students leaving

on their Real Learning Spain

Trip. The week will see the

students visiting some of the

most historic parts of the coun-

try as well as visiting one of the

best Museums in the Europe.

The Great Causeway Bake-off - Round One

Congratulations goes to 3 of our teaching staff who took part last weekend in the Eastbourne triathlon and came 1st. Miss Whitton took on the 600 metres sea swim, Mr Castano ran 5km and Mr Casebourne rode 25km on his bike. We would all like to say well done on this heroic effort and bringing home the trophy.

New Arrivals

Business Studies Trip to Thorpe Park The students were treated to an amazing and informative workshop from James at Thorpe Park this week. James spoke in detail about the business of Thorpe Park, including how they invest £20million a year on new rides to keep people coming back and to attract new customers. Everyone then enjoyed all that Thorpe Park had to offer and had an amazing time, with Miss Da Silva proving she is braver than Mrs Edwards. Mr Weller showcased his skills by winning a giant cuddly donut, which proved to be a very popular head rest for many weary students on the long journey home. We arrived back safe, sound and early after what was a fantastic day for all. Our students were very responsive and engaged throughout the talk, and over the course of the whole they were a credit to Causeway School.

Year 10 Geography Field Trip to Birling Gap This week the GCSE geography students went to Birling gap, Holywell and the seafront to look for evidence of coastal erosion and to find out what is being done to manage it. They had a talk from a National trust ranger and used fieldwork techniques to collect data. They will spend the next few weeks

writing a report about their finding. Their report is worth 25% of their final grade.

This week our canteen has been working to further improve the offering of food to our students and make available even more healthier choices. We have re-vamped the meal deals to include more fruit options and lighter meals as well as keeping costs to a minimum.

The bake-off has now entered it’s second week and the Competition is hotting up. All houses showed up in force this week to do their best and created some amazing dishes. The following students made it through to the next round because they were independent and had good time keeping in creating short crust pastry dishes: Keller: Kathryn Carter & Shaila Morris, Pankhurst: Jake Pearcy & Kenna Constable, Churchill: Katie Welling,

Amy Briffitt & Sophie Briffitt & Brunel: Chanice Roche, Faith Ripley, Lily Burgess, Ellis Burgess & Wiktoria Doda and Amy baker. A very well done to Katryn carter for coming first, Ellis Burgess for excellent creativity in making mini apple crumble tartlets and wiktoria doda for making a talagio tart with walnut pastry! Star baker went to Amy Baker for her gorgeous chocolate tart.

School Visits This Week

Teacher Champions

This Friday all students learned about life saving first aid skills as we took part in the first Big First Aid Lesson Live. Joining schools across the country we accessed an interactive hour-long online programme streamed live into classrooms. It was filmed in front of a live audience of students and was hosted by Dr Ranj, the co-creator and presenter of the hugely popular CBeebies’ show, Get Well Soon. It covered a whole range of first aid scenari-os including chest pains, seizures and insect bites. But this was a lesson with a difference – with live demos, incredible real life stories, chances to ask questions. This live streaming event covered all years within the school and is a first for Causeway school to take part in.

We are pleased to announce our resident duck has hatched her ducklings this week. All are safe and well and will be released into the school river soon.
