In 1921 Bernard-Albin GRAS designed aseries o lamps or use in oices and inindustrial environments.The GRAS lamp, asit was subsequently called, was astoundingin its simple, robust and yet very ergonomicdesign. There are neither screws nor welded

joints in the basic orm. In 1927 the Ravelcompany purchased the patent and startedproduction o the GRAS lamps. Bernard-Albin Gras was one o the most innovativedesigner o the 20th century. The unctionalesthetic o his lamps and especially the de-sign o details such as those o the arms,stems, brackets and bases were truly origi-nal and ar ahead o his time. Early on Le

enthusiastic supporters using the lamps inhis own oces as well as employing them innumerous architectural projects all over theworld. Others such as Robert Mallet-Stevens,Jacques Emile Ruhlmann and Eileen Grayollowed this trend as well. Furthermore,

such well-know artists as Sonia Delaunayand Georges Braque also used these lampsin their studios. For the rst time in history, alamp was equally popular in proessional aswell as in residential applications.Today, the GRAS lamp has become soughtater a collectors item all over the world,most notably in France, in the United Statesand in Japan.
