LAKE GARDA 2011

The 2011 Lake Garda trip is over and both students and members of staff will treasure the lovely memories we were able to bring back with us!

Despite the changeable weather, which incidentally after my presentation back in May, promising plenty of sunshine and hot weather, was a source of amusement

for all our students who took great pleasure in “taking the mick” out of me for my poor forecasting, I am able to say that all parties really enjoyed all aspects of the trip.

Students exceeded all my expectations and were really well behaved and a pleasure to be with. Many of them showed a fantastic sense of humour and provided a lot of entertainment for us all! Furthermore, our Italian teachers were very impressed with the students’ effort, enthusiasm, linguistic ability and, above all, behaviour. I was even complimented at Verona’s airport by security for the students’ ability to be well organised and disciplined. Their behaviour was, at all times, a great credit to their parents.

During the week we had several competitions and many winners. For the “Tidy Room competition” students were very competitive but, only marginally, the prize was won by Luke Magarinos, Joseph Sheridan and Samuel Edwards. The 1st place for “Best Students” was awarded to Tomas Curran, 2nd place to Nathan O’Connor and 3rd place to Matthew McLone but the Italian teachers found it very difficult to choose winners as most students demonstrated a lot of commitment and ability. Our annual “Campion has got talent” contest was very good and we had to increase the number of winners; in fact we had two joint 3rd places: Femi Dada and his assistants Michael Ring and Alfie Briden with some very good card tricks. The other 3rd place was awarded to Liam Pattullo for his beautiful poem about Italy, written in English with perfect rhyming. In 2nd place was Christopher Gell, also with a selection of very well and confidently executed card tricks. For the first time we had to add a new category as we had some very entertaining acts and we felt they deserved to be recognised for their entertainment value. The prize for “The most entertaining act” was awarded to Ben Nugent, Thomas Barrett, Patrick Leary-Kiernan and Phillip Bond for their “Body machine” performance which was very funny indeed. However, our worthy 2011 “Campion has got talent” winners were Callum Attew and George Welch with a poem about languages which they composed in Italian and, apart from being very good, it demonstrated their linguistic ability. BRAVISSIMI!!!!

In conclusion, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of staff who covered our lessons. I am extremely grateful to Mr Miller and Miss Delimesle who accompanied me on this trip for their valuable help and in particular Mr Johnson, as this was his Lake Garda farewell trip. His help, company and experience will be profoundly missed by all but especially by me! Grazie a tutti! Mrs E. Robinson

LIBRARY BOOKS

A reminder to all Year 11 and Year 13 pupils that all library books must be returned and all debts settled before study leave starts, as leavers’ forms will not be signed if there are debts outstanding. Mrs Keysell, Librarian

REMINDER TO PARENTS

Students should have money for the pay phone at all times. They are not allowed to use the front office phone as the office is very busy.

YEAR 12 UNIVERSITY INFORMATION EVENING

Finally, a new government website on this subject has recently gone live and is well worth a visit www.yourfuture.direct.gov.uk R Pearn, Head of Sixth Form
