Beach Safety SeminarsEvery Sunday beginning at 11 a.m., the Ocean City Beach Patrol conducts beach safety seminars for our residents and visitors. Beach-goers can gather around the crew chief stand on the beach where surf rescue technicians give a brief overview of the beach environment. They will inform beach-goers of anything in particular that they should be aware of and will answer any questions. It is not unusual for the beach patrol to have giveaways, so please do bring the kids!

Entertainment Comes to Sunset ParkSunset Park, Ocean City’s new bayside park on South Division

Street, will be the scene this summer of some fantastic free musical performances. The Town of Ocean City and the Ocean City Development Corporation will sponsor various concerts beginning this month. Please check the calendar listings and make your plans for an enjoyable outing in the downtown.

Two great celebrations on the Fourth of July The Fourth of July will be filled with family fun in Ocean City with two great ways to celebrate this special day — Jamboree in the Park at Northside Park and Fourth of July concert and fireworks on the beach at North Division Street. Jamboree in the Park offers activities the whole family will enjoy. Beginning at 5 p.m. an exciting slate of activities, in-cluding arts and crafts, children’s games, live music and food will beckon families to Northside Park at 127th Street and the bay. Bring your appetites along because Jamboree in the Park offers food galore. Snow cones, funnel cakes, barbecue, hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, ice cream and more will satisfy your taste buds. The Fun Field is filled with things for families to enjoy. The inflatables field and

mini train ride are always fun attractions, while 25-cent carnival games keep chil-dren fully entertained. Jamboree also offers a battery of old-fashioned picnic favorites, including tug-of-war, sack races, three-legged races, intermixed with a challenging soccer

shoot-out. The best thing about all the children’s activities is they’re free. The fireworks display will be shot from the park’s west side at 9:30 p.m. Those who prefer to spend the Fourth of July on the south end of town can enjoy Ocean City’s famous Boardwalk. Bring your beach chair or blanket and claim a spot on the beach at North Division Street for a patriotic concert fea-turing the United States Army Band and Chorus at 8 p.m. Fireworks fill the sky over the ocean at 9:30 p.m. Parking is limited at both locations. It is recommended that you take the bus. Bus service is $2 a day and runs 24 hours a day. The West Ocean City Park & Ride on Route 50 just west of the Route 50 Bridge offers free parking and $1 shuttle service.

Museum offers free summer programs The Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum, located at the south end of the Boardwalk, offers free programs on the Boardwalk during July and August six mornings a week. At 10:30 a.m. each day except Sundays, chairs are set up in front of the shark display where all are welcome to enjoy the entertaining and educational shows. Mondays: The Ocean City Beach Patrol demonstrates the newest techniques in lifesaving. Along with teaching beach safety and advising guests on beach law, the beach patrol displays various pieces of equipment. From the iconic red buoy to the official beach patrol jet ski, learn about tools and techniques the beach pa-trol uses to safeguard the surf. Tuesdays: Bob Stevens hosts “O.C.B.C.” (Ocean City Before Condominiums), pro-viding an in-depth look at Ocean City’s history. He regales audiences on how

Ocean City was transformed from a quiet fishing village into the premier beach re-sort of the East Coast, giving special focus on the women that helped craft the city. Wednesdays: Coast Guard Auxiliary teaches how to tie all kinds of knots.

From sheepshank to bowline hitch, the auxiliary demonstrates the particulars and provides rope. This program can be especially informative for prospective boaters. Thursdays: Learn all about sharks. Sandy Hurley, Assistant Curator, unravels the myths and mysteries behind these un-derwater predators. Fridays: Youngsters experience what it was like to serve as a “surfman” in the U.S. Life-Saving Service. Tom Wimbrow tells the tale of Thomas Parsons, who in 1878 decides to leave the family farm and apply for the job of surfman at the Ocean City Life-Saving Station. At the program’s conclusion, participants tour the museum and apply to become a Junior Surfman. Saturdays: Guests are invited into the museum’s aquarium area to watch marine critters eat their morning meal while learning about local marine life.

Celebrate fall’s arrival at Ocean City’s SunfestOcean City celebrates the start of

the fall season with four fantastic days of food, arts and crafts and live music when Sunfest 2007 shines on the resort’s Inlet lot, Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 20-23.

Ocean City’s most popular festival, the 33rd annual Sunfest, will delight all ages with live entertainment, hayrides on the beach, children’s ac-tivities and the 23rd annual Adeler Jewelers Treasure Hunt. In and around four big-top tents, there is something for every member of the family to enjoy at this fall celebration.

Sunfest opens with a parade on the Boardwalk beginning at 9:30 a.m. starting at 12th Street and ending at the Sunfest festival grounds with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20.

A fun part of Sunfest has been the Adeler Treasure Hunt where participants search for $10,000 in gems. Adults participate by digging for treasures, which are buried just a few inches under the sand. The treasure hunt takes place on the beach near the enter-

tainment tent on Friday and Saturday at 11 a.m.

Great musical entertainment is planned. This year’s headline acts are the Fabulous Hubcaps on Thursday, Sept. 20; Josh Gracin and Heartland on Friday, Sept. 21 and Wayne Newton on Saturday, Sept. 22.

Tickets are on sale at the Ocean City Convention Center Box Office

Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or at TicketMaster by phone at 1-800-551-7328 or 1-410-481-7328.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Sunfest without plenty of delicious Eastern Shore food and this year’s event promises more of the tasty fare.

And more than 180 arts and crafts booths fill two of the big-top tents on the Sunfest grounds, where visi-tors can browse a wide assortment of handmade offerings.

Sunfest hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Parking is restricted at Sunfest and visitors are urged to use one of the park and ride locations and ride buses to the festival grounds.

Park and ride locations include the West Ocean City Park and Ride just off Route 50 in West Ocean City, where you can park for free and take an Ocean City bus to South Division Street. Shuttle bus service from the West Ocean City Park and Ride to downtown is $1. In town, Ocean City offers a ride-all-day-for-$2 bus service. The Boardwalk tram also of-fers service daily.
