1 CACC Meeting Notes – July 25, 2018 GENERAL MEETING – Start time: 7:05 pm Police Report – Cmdr. David Dickey, VPD College area report included: 2 commercial burglaries, 2 residential burglaries (garages), 2 vehicle burglaries, 9 larcenies (thefts) many from shoplifting, 9 thefts from unlocked vehicles, 1 robbery (Aurora Dr.). o If anyone has any information about the robbery incident, please contact VPD. o CACC is the second largest community council area after East Ventura. o Our most prevalent crime problem is thefts from vehicles. Lock your vehicles and remove your valuables. o To better secure your property, lock your side gates. Motion detector lights and video doorbells help deter crime. Phone apps make these a cost effective method to add security to your home. Discussion: o What are the most dangerous intersections in the college area? Ans: Main & Mills and Mills & Telegraph are the intersections where the bulk of the accidents occur. o Website that charts reported accidents is called the Transportation Injury Mapping System: www.tims.berkeley.edu. NOTE: You must create a free account to access the database. o July 4 th fireworks were going off all over Ventura on the 4 th . They continued for a few days after in the college area. § Due to fire danger, police presence to deter fireworks was beefed up this year. § VPD seized several thousand pounds of fireworks this year. § VPC encountered fewer problems this year. § Cmdr. Dickey mentioned a time lapse of fireworks in LA. Here’s one good one: https://vimeo.com/278577579 o Who enforces parking prohibition near fire hydrants? Ans: Parking enforcement deals with this. Cadets are sent out to follow up on reported infractions. Police non-emergency number is 650-8010. VPD posts information on its website (https://www.cityofventura.ca.gov/816/Police-Department), Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/venturapd/) and Nextdoor https://nextdoor.com/agency-post/ca/ventura/ventura-police-department/patrol- task-force-24357956/
