Business - Insurance

A two-year Ontario College Diploma program, with a co-op option, designed to prepare students for positions in the challenging and exciting property and casualty insurance industry.

Students will study forms of general insurance, underwriting, claims investigation, risk analysis and contracts.

Graduates work in high-demand areas of insurance such as underwriting, claims adjusting, brokerage or agency services and risk management.

Property and Casualty

The Canadian property and casualty (P&C) insurance industry is generally defined as including all lines of insurance other than life.

The P&C industry brings in more than $18 billion in annual premiums

More than half comes from auto insurance (51.4%)

The remainder being Property (32.5%), Liability (9.6%) as well as Excess & Surplus Lines (6.5%)

Chartered Insurance Professional

Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) is a ten-course program, offered through the Insurance Institute of Canada which places emphasis on the integration of practical and theoretical insurance knowledge

It features concentrations on underwriting, brokers/agents and adjusters.

The program consists of ten courses: five mandatory, three applied professional and two electives which can be chosen from more than 20 available courses

Fanshawe offers students to obtain up to nine (9) credits toward their CIP
