Principals Report
Welcome to another great JHS newsletter.
We have seen groups and classes settle into their
learning, with students establishing good routines of
bringing equipment, completing class learning and
preparing their first assessment tasks.
I congratulate the students who are able to last the
period without checking their phone. This allows
students to focus on learning and manage their
distractions, like all workplaces need!
All students received their “Assessment and Scope &
Sequence Booklet”, outlining the course topics,
assessments and the due dates. This is practical to
have on hand so students don’t miss assessment
submission dates, can be well prepared and also
understand what their learning journey consists of this
year. These booklets can also be found on our school
website and Student & Parent Portal. If any parent
needs assistance with the Portal, please contact me.
Term 1 Interim Report for students in Years 7 to 11 will
be distributed in Week 7. Parents will receive these in
the mail, in time to read and discuss with teachers at
the first of Parent – Teacher evening, held on
Wednesday evening 20 March. Bookings are available
now through the Student & Parent Portal
School Photos were smoothly coordinated with
students looking great on the day. These photos
should be available for parents very soon. 2019 SRC
Congratulations to our 2019 SRC class who were
inducted at the special assembly this week. Mrs Bree
Anderson is the SRC Coordinator and has big plans to
utilise the student’s skills and to garner their thoughts
and ideas for continuing to strengthen our school.
Also at the special assembly was the induction of the
2019 House Captains. Houses are important at our
school, giving students the opportunity to be in a
larger team of the school. The points that students
accumulate for their positive behaviour and efforts
contribute to their house, with the winning house
receiving a special event at the conclusion of each
term.
Congratulations to students who progressed in the
Honours System, also recognised at the assembly.
These students moved into the silver, gold, diamond
and platinum status levels. Special mention to Mae-
Rose Harrison for achieving Platinum status. Students
and parents can check their house points using the
Student & Parent Portal.
It was excellent to similarly congratulate the two
recipients of the GEO Bressington scholarships. Adam
Spackman and Kate Jarrett were successful as the
highest ATAR scores for male and female students and
going on to further study. These two students, who
both identify as Indigenous and have contributed to
our school in many ways, were lost for words as they
received their scholarships and we look forward to
them returning to school to tell us of their
achievements in the future.
Empower PM
Empower PM continues on Wednesday evenings from
5pm. I thank each staff member who is able to assist
students by volunteering their time. Well done also to
students displaying maturity and perseverance in using
their time well.
Swimming Carnival
Swim Carnival: Again a great success due to staff
organisation and student participation. Thank you to
all students and parents who contributed to the day,
making it a success of school unity and culture. Best
wishes to the students selected to represent our school
at the Zone Swimming carnival held in Tumut on
Thursday.
Year 7 & 11 head out to their Camp in Week 6 and I
look forward to attending this with them for the three
days – more news and photos in Week 8’s newsletter
.Year 7 will select their 4 members for SRC following
the camp after having spent more time with each
other.

P&C – I thank the parents who have been helping our
school by their involvement in the P&C. P&C
fundraising events go to assisting student’s learning
and opportunities, as well as supplying uniforms and a
delightful canteen. P&C have kindly agreed to continue
supplying funds to assist the cost of transport for
students representing the school. The next meeting will
be held on March 20 at the Junee HS Common room,
end of ground floor, A block, starting at 7pm.
The first fundraisers for the year are:
Golf Day Saturday 6 April from 8:30am. Please contact
Julie Shepherd to book in a golf team or assist with the
organisation for the day.
Band and Dinner afterwards from 6pm: Sausage sizzle
and a music band at the Red Cow Hotel-all adults are
very welcome to attend.
Be your best. Be respectful. Be responsible

What’s happening in Careers?
Welcome to 2019
Stage 5 Work Experience
Work experience is recommended for all students, no
matter their career aspirations as it provides an
opportunity for them to explore different jobs and
industries. It allows students to talk to employers and
employees about their career journey and about the
skills and training required in their specific industry.
In the second half of the term, students will participate
in introduction to work experience sessions where they
will learn the process of organising their placement.
They will then have access to the required paperwork
and information necessary to arrange their work
experience placements. Check out
www.juneehighcareers.com for some ‘outside the
square’ work experience opportunities. All students are
required to discuss their work experience choices with
Mrs Bunyan before they apply.
Year 10 UNSW Civil and Environmental Engineering

Surveying and Geospatial Engineering
Daily field trips will be led by UNSEW CVEN staff
supported by engineering professionals to a range of
engineering sites across Sydney.
Students must arrange their own transport and
accommodation in Sydney. If interested please see Mrs
Bunyan for an application form.

Technical Camp for Girls
RAAF Base Wagga
Dates: 12-15 March 2019 (4 days and 4 nights)
This is a rare chance to get a taste of life as an Air

Child Studies Excursion
Stage 5 Child Studies students recently visited the
Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital to go on a tour
through the maternity ward, birthing suite and the
special care nursery. This was a great opportunity to
see the special care that is available for newborn
babies and their parents in our region. It also provided
insight into working as a midwife or nurse in the
maternity ward. We were also able to visit the Tresillian
Family Care Centre and hear about what services they
have available, as well as the Child and Family Health
Service at Glenfield. We thank these services for taking
the time to share their knowledge with our students.
