TIMES
On January 21st, auditions
were held for the Honors
Choir. The Honors Choir is a
choir made up of selected 5th
grade students from all over
Dade County. The students
have to pass a challenging
audition to get in. On April 8th,
they will perform in a big con-
cert in front of teachers, par-
ents, and administrators. To
pass the auditions you need to
have a good tone quality and
lots of confidence. From our
school, four out of ten stu-
dents that auditioned got in
and will be performing at the
Miami Coral Park Senior
High School. These four stu-
dents are Frankie Benitez,
Emily Frank, Briana Halmon
and Alicia Krasner. “It was
really nice, the teachers were
amazing, and it took a lot of
practice.” said Emily. Three
out of four of the girls have
been in chorus at our school
for two years. We would like
Mrs. Castillo, Mrs. Russo, and Ms. Carpenter’s Journalism Class

On January 26, the science fair
winners from 7th and 8th grade
went on a trip to U.F., in Gaines-
ville. The group of 10 students
went for 3 days to experience the
other science fair presentations
from high school students. Ni-
colas Taylor, a 7th grade winner
said his favorite project was a
group that tried to come up with
a cure for cancer. Matthew Pra-
da, another 7th grader, said his
favorite part was when he held
snakes. Shelly Albergel, an 8th
grader, stated that she enjoyed
all the labs that they did. Some
of the students‟ projects were
about how chemicals in water
affect the reflection of light and
feeding turtles. After the event,
awards were distributed out
based on how well everyone
did. A special congratulation
goes out to Matthew Prada and
Jake Rubin for winning the
gold and Broadcom masters
awards. Isabella Sharifi, Tal
Gottesman, Camila Serrano,
and Carolina Navarro all got
silver and were all alternate
winners in case one of the state
finalists could not go. All the
winners loved all the attention
especially since they were the
youngest ones there. Everyone
who went wishes everyone
good luck next year and they
should try extra hard to be
recognized like they were.

Castillo says that the reason she
chooses this project every year is
because “its interactive project that
student get to show their artistic
ability.” This was an amazing expe-
rience for the 7th graders and more
to come. This project was for the
students to interact with a book of
their choice and get the chance to
design a hat and pour their heart into
it. Students did spend a lot of money
on this project but they said it was
worth it. Vivienne Hyland was one
of the students that did the best hats.
Every year Mrs. Castillo assigns
her 7th grade students the “hats off
to literature” project. The stu-
dents had to decorate a hat that
matches a classical novel they
chose. It took some of the stu-
dents about 1 day to a week. A
few students were interviewed,
one student named Emilia Mour-
ier stated that she loved this pro-
ject because “it was challenging
and it put my artistic skills to
work”. Most students found this
project difficult but fun. Mrs.
She stated “this was the best project I
got all year”. The students of Ms.
Castillo‟s 7th grade class had a month
and a week to complete this project
and the greatest majority of the stu-
dents completed this project and they
looked great.
We Appreciate You!
CASTILLO’S HATS OFF TO LITERATURE
SPORTS General Manager of the century Pat
Riley has been on the phone trying
to change the Miami Heat season
around. First, he signed Josh
McRoberts, but later in the year he
got hurt and had to sit out for the
remainder of the season. Then, Pat
signed Hassan Whiteside to replace
McRoberts. He quickly became the
star that the Heat needed. Sadly, all-
star Chris Bosh was hospitalized due
to a blood clot in his lungs. Since
the Heat was desperately in need of
players who could generate points,
Pat Riley signed Henry Walker and
Michael Beasley to a 10 day con-
tract. Last week, Walker‟s contract
expired, but since he showed poten-
tial, he was signed to another 10
days. The Heat are now ranked 7th
place in the Eastern Division and are
contenders for the 2015 NBA
Playoffs.

We‟ve Been
Played!
The Bobcat family truly ap-
preciates all the hard work
and effort our custodians,
security guards, cafeteria
staff, and crossing guards put
forth every day. The school‟s
support staff have been work-
ing at our school for up to 20
years! Several words of ad-
vice spoken by our own fac-
ulty include, “Stay in school,
don‟t do drugs and enjoy
yourself” -Ileana, “Kids need
to be more into school work
and love each other”- Severn,
“Study, finish school all the
way, and go to college”-Mr.
Bello and “Try to make the
world a better place” - James.
Bobcat students should really
take these wise words into
consideration. Mr. Bello and
quite a lot of other staff mem-
bers enjoy working at our
school because they like being
around kids and having the
opportunity to help them. Stu-
dents, make sure to thank them
the next time you see them!

Roses are red, violets are blue.
This Valentine‟s Day was a
tremendous accomplishment.
Our school raised $2,100. On
behalf of the Journalism team
we would like to thank Caroli-
na Luczkow and all other par-
ents who made this event hap-
pen. The money raised goes
towards the 8th grade prom.
Some photos are posted on the
bulletin board by the elemen-
tary cafeteria. We hope every-
one had a great Valentine‟s
Day!
www.ZoeGoldemberg.com, which
was started over the summer. In
this website, she will soon be
selling her handmade clothes to
all who are interested. For three
years, Zoe has taken fashion
courses at DesignLab Miami. Zoe
started to create and design
clothes when she was six years
old because she always enjoyed
art and fashion. Last December,
Zoe was chosen to show one of
her designs in the Adrienne Arsht
Center, a 3D printed shoe with the
slogan “All about Shoes.” Zoe
wants to be a famous designer
when she‟s older and be like the
designers who inspire her. She
was chosen to speak at TedX
Youth in Miami to share her
ideas with people who would
like to sponsor them. Zoe Gold-
emberg is an example that if
someone works hard to achieve
something, it can always be
done.

Pop Ed
This month we are rec-
ommending a movie.
If you are planning to
go to your local movie
theater, we recommend
this movie for you. The
Imitation Game is one
of the most popular
movies out right now.
One of the quotes from
a fan is that “If Bene-
dict (actor in the lead-
ing role) doesn‟t win an
Oscar for his perfor-
mance, then no one
should.” This movie is
rated PG-13, so if you
go, take a parent.

Imanol Montero read a very com-
plicated high school level book
„Don Quixote‟ in Spanish when he
was only in first grade. He is cur-
rently in third grade and is very
proud that he read this book. He
just moved from Cuba so he finish-
es reading the last part of the book here. We wanted to give him recog-
nition for accomplishing this diffi-
cult task of reading a high school
book in 1st grade.
