At the meeting, the Board heard the following: STUDENT VOICES Palos Verdes Peninsula High School se- nior, Bertha Mendez, shared her Animal Sciences Career Pathway with the Board. Ms. Mendez was introduced to SoCal ROC by a friend. Ms. Mendez commented that from a young age she discovered her love for animals. Ms. Mendez completed the fol- lowing courses: Pet Health and Grooming and Veterinary Sciences. Ms. Mendez is currently enrolled in Veterinary Assistant. Ms. Mendez noted that she has taken ad- vantage of all the other services SoCal ROC provides: Resume Writing Workshop, Mock Interviews, and Career Days. Ms. Mendez has been at accepted North- ern Arizona University and Corban University. President Ashcraft pre- sented Ms. Mendez with a Board Certificate of Excellence. STAFF REPORTS Update on Sub-Committee: Superintendent Hoffman reported that the committee met two weeks ago to discuss the local control funding formula and its impact on ROC/P’s in California. Dr. Hoffman stated that SoCal ROC’s administrators will prepare two budgets for the 2013/2014 school year: a budget remaining the same as 2012/2013 funding levels and another budget with zero dollars, as reflected in the Local Control Funding Formula. Funding for SoCal ROC 2013/2014 - Superintendent Hoffman presented a Power- Point Presentation, Funding for ROC/P’s, to the Board. The PowerPoint outlined the history of funding to ROC/P’s what programs and services are provided by SoCal ROC and the potential impacts on SoCal ROC by the Local Control Funding For- mula. SUPERINTENDENT REMARKS Superintendent Hoffman reported that motivational speaker/comedian Ernie G will be speaking to students about pursing their college and career goals. Superintendent Hoffman also told the Board that SoCal ROC also held three very successful Employer Advisory Committee Meetings that included industry represen- tatives, instructors, and staff.
