    TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

By adding a scanner , QUARTET  allows a full

field analysis of ultrasonic signals by providing a

3D mapping of the surface with a 1 ns time

    resolution. Turn-key systems (QUARTET +

    SCANNER + OSCILLOSCOPE + COMPUTER +

    SOFTWARE) are available.

    T E C H N I C A L B A C K G R O U N DBossa Nova Technologies  introduces its Laser receiver QUARTET  for non-destructive testingapplications in factory conditions. Based on multi-channel random quadrature detection

technology, QUARTET  is designed for remote detection of sub-nanometer  displacements. Nopath stabilization is required. The stability of the interferometer is based on the multi-channel,

parallel demodulation that is done electronically.

Associated with a compact and light fiber head to deliver the probe beam on the sample and collect

the backscattered light,QUARTET is the perfect ultrasonic receiver for fast and reliable scan.

Each homodyne signal is processed in parallel using a patented signal processing

architecture, based on " random quadrature"  demodulation scheme (taking advantage of the

random phase distribution inherent to speckle light). The detectors produce a time-varying

analog voltage that is proportional to the rectified instantaneous surface displacement at

    ultrasonic frequencies.

    • Simple Design  No optical path control, stabilization or compensation.

    • Fiber system  Small and compact fiber head dedicated for fast and reliable scan.

    • High sensitivity & low laser power More detectors collect more light, sensitivityincreases, required laser power decreases.

    • Any surface/material   Light collection efficiency combined with a speckle processingtechnique allows the inspection of any kind of surface (rough, porous, rusted or mirror-like)or material (composite, steel or paper).

    • Robust, Stable & Compact  Not subject to stability issues common to long cavity and path-stabilized interferometers because it does not require control of the optical pathlength. Does not use high accuracy optical components or positioning, which makes itexceptionally rugged.

    • Low-cost  Simple design and low laser power decreases the cost of the receiver, the costof the inspection system and the overall maintenance cost.

    • CW/Pulsed operation  The output beam can be intensity-modulated in order to reducethe average optical power when a fragile sample is measured, without degrading the

     performance of the receiver.

    • 2D scanning   2D scanning is very easy with QUARTET. Thanks to the multi-speckleinterferometry, no more signal fading due to the collection of a dark speckle.

QUARTET combines the advantages of homodyne interferometry  and multidetector  ability .

The beam reflected by the sample rough surface has many speckle. The multi-speckled beam

(signal beam) is combined with the reference beam (Local oscillator) using a beam combiner.

Each detector collects few speckle and delivers an homodyne signal.
