lically based program on personal finance.

age accountability and discipleship. FPU

dent. Call Carolyn for details at 843-478-
9444.
Wow! … It’s already September!
The temps say that summer is waning! School is in session, and families are getting back to a
sense of normalcy … daily lunches and snacks, laundry, carpools, you name it!
The 2019-2020 Academic Year at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School has 247 students enrolled
(128 girls, 119 boys). We have 17 full-time teachers with 2 part-time (Music & Art) and 1
volunteer (Library). The Kindergarten and 1
st
Grade have a total of 7 teacher-assistants. Then
there are Administrative & Office Staff whose tasks keep them occupied while the teaching-
learning process goes on in the classrooms. And we must not forget the Maintenance Staff
who make sure the building is clean and ready before 300 pair of feet trample the hallways.
We thank the School Advisory Committee for their valuable help, the Lunch Monitors for
their volunteer service, the Parish Athletic Association for their attention to help create a
spirit of sportsmanship in all the parish children including Blessed Sacrament School, and
perhaps other groups of persons whose intent is the proper growth and development of all
our young people. “THINGS DO NOT HAPPEN; PEOPLE MAKE THEM HAPPEN” … Awesome!
A Catholic School is a School of Choice – parents make a choice of sending their children to
Blessed Sacrament. This is one of the many, many choices that parents must make. And there
are numerous determinants that enter into play with this choice. Perhaps there are some
parents in the community who would have preferred this kind of milieu for their children but, in
the final analysis, had to decide otherwise. Blessed Sacrament owes the children of these
families an ‘education in the faith’. This is what our Wednesday evening Faith Formation
Program is all about. The local Parish Church provides the formal instruction so that ALL our
children learn the Roman Catholic faith and tradition. On that final day, when asked the big
question of what we did for future generations, we can all say, ‘we did the best we could’. And
that is what Jesus wants.
In my more active years of ministry, it fell to my lot to care for several parochial schools.
Education has been a part of me at just about every level: Grade School, Junior & Senior High
School, College, Adult Formation and more. That’s the reason why I lost my jet-black hair for
the fancy coiffure I now sport!!
These are just some random thoughts that I share for this time of year – the beginning of a
new School Year.
With love,
Fr. Derrick

Nosotros Lo recibimos.
¡Maravilloso!
Padre Derrick
