INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this study is to show there are ten phases in cricket fast bowling skill.

The aim of fast bowling is to bowl cricket ball at high speed.

Bowling can be divide into 3 skills which is side on, front on, semi front on and mixed action.

In any three skills, there are seven phases which are divided into run-up, pre-delivery stride, mid bound, back foot contact, front foot contact, ball release and follow through.

Fast bowling in cricket is a highly dynamic skills which requires the players to generate ball velocities.

Side on and front on skill is the most popular skills in bowlers because the technique have less injury risk of injury compare to mixed action.

Phases in Bowling Skills

Run Up

Run up is the phase where bowler makes when preparing to deliver the ball.

Run up length is usually around 15m to 30m.

The purpose of run up is to add speed during ball releasing stage.

In the video that we analysed, the bowler run up to 10m for the run up stage.

Video Analysis

Pre Delivery Stride

Known as the phase between the end of run up and the moment bowler make foot impact to start the delivery stride phase.

Normally bowler will run 15 to 30m to make a perfect pre delivery stride and the speed is around 4.0 to 6.0 m/s.

In this stage, the chest of bowler have low, short bound so that they wont lose their momentum.

We can also see their leg are start to open up wider.

Jump

After the pre-delivery stride, bowler had start to jump on air.

In this stage, bowler already have a lot of speed and power to release the ball.

We can also see that bowlers body start to lean backward.

Delivery Stride

This is the stage where delivery swing is made, whether the ball is release or not.

At this stage, the bowlers weight is distributed on the back foot with the momentum of the body leaning away.

The momentum of the body leaning away is important to keep bowler from miss step or collapse.

Mid bound is the position where bowler have to open up his leg and body bend to backward with elbow flex around 45 degree.

This action is wrong according to the journal that we found because in mid bound action both leg should be on the ground with flex elbow.

But in this picture, only left foot was contacted with the ground.

Mid Bound

Back Foot Contact

This action is the acton after mid bound where bowler have to make contact of his back foot on the ground.

Back foot conlands on the groundtact is position of the bowler at the instant when the back foot .

According journal, when the back foor contacted with the ground, front leg should be around 90 degree rised so that total power can be transfer to back leg.

Left Arm Rotation

The purpose of arm rotation in bowling is to bowl the cricket ball with rapid rotation so that when it bounce on the pitch it will deviate from its normal straight path.

This action will make batsman difficult to target where the ball will land.

Thus, for amatuer bowlers, straight left arm rotation is important to keep the ball straightfrom being wide.

Front Foot Contact

This movement involves the contact of front foot with the ground.

Front foot contact is the position of the bowler at the moment when the front foot hits the ground just prior to delivering the ball

The front leg should be slightly flexed because bowler with straight or hyper extended leg can lead to greater ball release speed.

Ball Release

This action is where bowler release ball to batter.

During this action, bowler have to raise the hand straight to the air so that the power of release can be raise during releasing the ball which involve pelvis, thirax and wrist.

If the bowler dint raise his hand straight to air, this will effect the speed of ball release directly.

Follow Through

This action defined as period where ball released and the stride that taken by bowler.

Follow through doesnt effects the speed of ball but can prevent injuries to bowler.

The normal length of follow through is around 7 to 10 steps according to the bowlers comfortable.

Conclusion

As a conclusion, the most ideal skill that a bowler can use for bowling cricket ball is by using side on or front on skill to prevent injuries.

Also, all the phases that we shown should be practice in order to make a good bowling skill in cricket.
