What is your gender?

When producing a rock music magazine, I don’t think the gender audience is that important and I don’t think it needs to be considered that much. However, my results do show that females read rock music magazines as much as men, stereotypically, do.

What age category do you come under?

Age is quite important when producing a music magazine, as you need to see you your target audience is and what their interests are. This also informs you on the maturity level your magazine needs to be at, whether it’s for the older or younger generation.

How often do you purchase magazines?

Knowing how often people like the publication of magazines is important too. It is important to not keep the customer waiting and I think this is proven when looking at these results. Publication of magazines depends on the persons preference, for example, the majority may prefer to purchase a magazine bi-weekly and a few other people may prefer to purchase it weekly. It is important to know what people prefer (on average) so then when producing the final product, it can be up to their standards.

State 3 colours that you would associate with a rock music magazine

When it comes to choosing the colours for a rock music magazine, it’s quite important to know what people prefer as if it includes the colours they like/stand out to them, then there is a higher chance that they will purchase the magazine. The colours on the front cover are very important as the front cover is clearly the first thing the reader sees.

When reading a music magazine, what is your preferred issue size? (number of pages)

This question is also very useful as it helps me to decide on how thick my issues should be. If the issues are too thin, then the reader may not purchase it anymore as they may think it’s a waste of money. However, if the issue is too thick, then the reader could lose interest and not purchase the magazine again as they know it’s too lengthy.

State 3 words that you would associate with a rock music magazine

I don’t think that this question is highly important, especially compared to the others. However, the results could be quite useful as it depicts what words/themes the readers of rock music magazines relate to them.

What music magazines do you already read/have previously read?

I find this question to be highly important and the answers I received are very useful. This ensures that I can produce my rock music magazine to a high standard, some of which matches up to those of the professional magazines shown in the pie chart. The results also show which professional magazine readers prefer and this can ensure that I can research that particular product in more detail to make mine more successful.

What incentives do you think encourage you to purchase a music magazine?

When it comes to the incentives of a music magazine, I think it’s a fairly important topic. Whether the customer prefers free CD’s or free band merchandise, it could encourage the customer to purchase that magazine. If they know that the incentives are a regular thing, then the magazine is guaranteed to make a high profit as the reader will continue to purchase the magazine, even if it’s just to receive the incentive.

On average, how much would you be willing to pay for a rock music magazine?

The price of a magazine is a really important thing to consider when producing one. This could decide on the customer actually purchasing the magazine or not. If the cost is too expensive then the customer may decide otherwise. If the magazines cost is too cheap, then they won’t make enough profit to keep the magazine running.

What is your preferred genre?

Obviously, when producing a rock music magazine, the genre of music has to relate to the basis of the magazine. Of course, the main genre would be rock, but it could include elements of metal, punk and alternative music. This question is quite important as it informs me what peoples preference is music taste is.
