Target Audience ResearchAnalysis

Page 2: Audience Research Analysis

I carried out a target audience research survey, via surveymonkey, in aim of finding out whether my magazine would be popular and lucrative. I’ve always had a fundamental

demographic in mind for my magazine: 16-19 year old females, so I wanted to embark a more profound research, which will help me understand how I can further my perceptive in

what would appeal most to my target audience and therefore increasing the profit of my magazine.

I asked 10 questions; what their fashion sense was, where they buy their clothing from, what music appeals to them, what's the highest value they would pay for a music magazine

and so on, because these answers will help me find out a lot more about my selected audience and what would appeal to them most, this will further help them gain more of an

interest in my magazine and help the quantity of my magazines sold.

I’m also creating a survey in order for me to know whether there’s a place in the market for my magazine because if my survey results state that my magazine isn’t of interest to them

at all, then I will need to change it in order for it to become more appealed to my designated audience.

Why did you carry out a target audience research? What did you want to find out?

Page 3: Audience Research Analysis

For my audience survey, I posted it on Facebook because I will receive a larger and a more accurate response from my audience.

After doing so, I received 60 responses.

As you can see from the two charts, my magazine would be more appealed to a feminine audience - which is what I wanted in the first place - because only 5 males done the questionnaire to the opposing

55 response from females.

This was a very important question to ask my audience because it has enabled me to understand how I can design my magazine - feministic – and what the content of my magazine could contain; more female

related stuff, E.g. Makeup/hair tutorials, beauty products, etc.

I wanted to do a retro fashion/dance music magazine, so the style of photographs contained in my magazine will be of a retro style, the content will include fashion articles but the magazine is mainly focused on dance music. I received a great response, 59 out of 60 answered the question and 1

person skipped it.

As you can see by the charts displayed; 49.14% of the people said ‘yes’, 33.90% of the people said ‘sometimes’

and 16.95% of people said ‘no’. Taking these statistics into account, it tells me that almost half of my applicants said

that my idea of a music magazine would appeal to them so this therefore shows me that my magazine would be popular

and possibly profitable.

Page 5: Audience Research Analysis

I asked this question in order for me to find out what my magazine could

contain, which will entice my consumer in my magazine. All 60 applicants answered this question.

As you can see by the charts on display, the most popular interests that the contenders have is Fashion

with 71.67%, Makeup/hair and Music with a joint 70%,

Photography with 61.67% and Art/Designing with 53.33%, all the other interests where below 50% so I’m not going to contain anything

related to Sport, Cooking or Reading in my magazine because

my results state that the majority, of which completed my survey, weren’t of interest in these

particular areas.

Taking these figures into account, I now know what my audience are interested in, which will further

help me engage them a lot more in my magazine by containing such articles. This question has also helped me understand that the

vague idea of my magazine will be popular and lucrative in the market.

Page 6: Audience Research Analysis

I thought it were a good idea to ask what the highest value my audience will pay for a magazine because that helps me understand what rate I should price my magazine at. 59 applicants, out of 60, answered this question.

As you can see by the graphs shown, the most popular answers were: £1.01 - £2.00 voted by 37.29% of applicants, £2.01 - £3.00 by 22.03% of applicants and £3.01 - £4.00 with 13.56% applicants (the rest were responses by10.17%

of applicants, and less, which is a minority response; I want to focus on what the vast-majority of applicants has said).

Having received my responses, I've decided to price my magazine around the £2.00 mark because that way the price is valued in the middle of the most popular answers from my viewers.

Page 7: Audience Research Analysis

This was a varied but very important question because this encountered whether a Dance Music Magazine would be

popular or not so this was one of the most important questions asked. All 60 applicants answered this question.

Fortunately, the responses I received were exactly what I was looking for; 65% of my applicants liked Dance music, 60% of

people liked Pop music and RnB/Soul music and 58.33% of applicants liked HipHop/Rap music (the rest were 33.33% or less which was no use to me as the majority preferred Dance,

Pop, RnB/Soul and HipHop/Rap music).

Having received this response, it has allowed me to continue with my fundamental ideas of my music magazine because I

now know that my audience will be interested in a Dance Music Magazine.

Page 8: Audience Research Analysis

I’ve always wanted my magazine to contain fashion articles but I was unsure as to what area of fashion clothing would be more of an interest

to my audience, so I wanted to obtain a more insightful research to which style of clothing would be more beneficial in my magazine. All

60 applicants answered this question.

Surprisingly enough my most popular answer was Casual Clothing with 50% of applicants, followed by Vintage/retro clothing with 40%,

Formal/modern with 36.67%,Sophisticated with 26.67% and Hippie/Indie with 21.67% (the rest of the styles only received 20% of my applicants interest, or less, so these styles of clothing will not be included in my magazine because the majority was not of interest in

these particular styles).

Having asked this question, it has gave me the information to which will help me know what fashion clothing I can include in my magazine and

still engage my consumers interest.

Page 9: Audience Research Analysis

I was a bit unsure as to what my magazine could contain that will

make my magazine more interesting, so this question enabled me to know what to include in my magazine. 59

applicants, out of 60, answered this question.

As you can see via the results shown, my most popular

response is ‘latest fashion trends’ with 79.66%, followed by

‘music/fashion reviews’ with 69.49%, ‘best fashion stores’

with 62.71%, ‘interviews’ with 57.63% and ‘upcoming bands’ with 54.24% (all the rest were response with only 49.15% or

less so they will not be included in my magazine).

With having done this research, I know have the information I

need, which will help me with the content of my magazine;

what to include in it.

Page 10: Audience Research Analysis

I’ve always known that my magazine will be fashion related as well as music related so this question was simply to find out what clothing brands were most popular, which will help me know what clothing

stores to include in my magazine. 59 applicants, out of 60, answered this question.

My results show that River island and Newlook was most popular with a response of 71.19%, followed by Topshop with 69.49%, Primark with 66.10% and Boohoo with 40.68% (the rest were responses from only

38.98% of applicants but I only want to focus on the majority of responses, not the minority so these shall not be included in my

magazine).

The responses I’ve received can now allow me to know what clothing to include in my magazine and because I'm basing it on my research, my magazine is going to be more lucrative because I know what the vast-majority of my audience will definitely like the clothing which will be

featured in my products.

Page 11: Audience Research Analysis

This question wasn’t as important as the other questions but I wanted to ask this for me gain an understanding of how interested my candidates are in Dance Music; how

often they listen to it per week. all 60 applicants answered this question.

Fortunately, my response was exactly what I was looking for. My most popular answer was 7+hours a week - they

listened to dance music - from 33.33% of applicants, followed by 2 -3 hours with 21.67%, 4-5hours with 20%

and ‘Never’ with 11.67% of applicants (the rest were only responses from 6.67% of applicants).

Having received this response, I now know that the preponderance(majority) of my applicants are extremely

interested in dance music which therefore tells me that my dance music magazine will appeal to them.

This was a qualitative question which is a lot more difficult to consider since it’s open to ones opinion, so I only chose 10 answers from the 35 applicants(out of

60) that answered because it will be a lot easier to analyse. I asked this question because I wanted to see what else could make my magazine more exciting and

appealing.

As you can see via the answers to the left, there are a range of different answers with great ideas but what

I’ve noticed is that the majority of answers(5 out of 10) have said ‘photos’ and the rest of said have said music,

posters, prizes, celeb fashion, stories and so on.

Taking my responses into account, I shall definitely include as many photos as possible and as for the rest of

the answers, I could try include these in my contents page as an article but for my double page spread I'm

going to relate that to my interviewee from my ‘artist’ which could be of interest to some of my applicants

since some has said interviews and stories.

What have you found out via your Research?

I thought that doing an audience research was a great idea because it enables you to find out exactly what you need to. Through doing my

research, it’s not only made me understand my demographic audience a lot more and what they’re interested in but it has also gave me the

knowledge that my ‘Retro Fashion/Dance Music Magazine’ would be of interest to a lot of people in my demographic audience and will

therefore be popular and profitable.

All the question I asked was, near enough, exactly what I was looking for because they support my elementary idea of my music magazine, which has been in mind since the day we had to think of it. With the

knowledge I know now, through doing my research, I currently have a more thorough idea on what to include in my magazine, with the

significance that it will appeal to my audience.
