Alderman Pawley moved, "That the Minutes be taken as read, and confirmed, and signed•"

Seconded by Alderman Dunshea, and carried. ·

Alderman Dunshea referred in feeling terms to the death of the son of Mr. & Mrs. F.A. Lee,

of 58 Wellington Street, Newtown, who recently died at the e·arly age of 14 years, and

moved, "That a letter expressing this Council's sympathy be forwarded to Mr. & Mrs. Lee"• Seconded by Alderman Fleming, and carried unanimously 'by the Members of the Council risin in silence. ·

His Worship the Mayor, (Alderman. I.E. Ryan, J.P.), as Chairman of the Works' Committee, submitted a Report of a Meeting hel d on the 19th inst., as contained on tolios.345/ 6 ot the Committee's Report Book, and embodying recommendat ions Nos . 1 to 17 inclusive. The Town Clerk intimated that Recommendation No. 18 shpuld be included, and read as follows;- "As Thursday the 22nd inst., is not a Statutory Holiday under the Award,-to remove all doubt regarding the matter, your Committee recommends that this Council's Employees be paid for the Holiday." In reply to a quest i on, The Town Clerk i n timated that Temporary Hands whose employment was not longer than two months woul d not be entitled to the Holiday, unless by special direction of the Council. Ald. Dunn then moved, "That the recommendation of the Works' Committee be extended to include all Temporary Hands at present in Council's employ". Seconded by Ald. Delve, and carried. With this addition, Alderman Roberts moved, "That the Works' Committee•s Report be WReceived", and adopted• and its recommendations be carried into effect". Seconded by Ald. Delve, · and carried.

The Engineer submitted his report of works completed or in progress during the past fortnight, together with an Addendum giving the names of all Temporary Hands at present 1? Co~il'~employ. "Received".

QUESTIONS WITHOUT NOTICE.

Under this heading, Alderman Solomon asked if a reply had been received from H.P. Fitzsimons M.L.A., the Honorary Minister for Local Government, re Cemetery matters.? The Mayor replied in the negative. '

Ald. Solomon moved, "That a further letter be forwarded,per favor of the Members of Parliament for this district, requesting a prompt reply to this Council's letter regarding the Newtown-Camperdown Cemetery." Seconded by Ald. Fleming, and carried.

Ald.Solomon asked 1f any reply had been received fran the Main Roads Dept.,relative to the rounding-off/~e corner of ErskineVille Rd.,~ Wilson St., ? The Mayor replied in the negative, and intimated that he would have a further letter forwarded, in accordance with-the recommendation of the Works' Co~ttee that Evening.

Ald. Delve ask~d that the works i~ Aug~stus Lane be treated a~ an urgent matter. The Mayor requested the Engineer to give this matter immediate attention.

Ald. Bugler asked that every care be taken to see that Applications for Postal Votes were genuine, as from information received, ~o~e applications ~ere being made for Postah Votes where the Applicants were not entitled to same. The Mayor intimated that the validity of the applications was a matter upder the Returning Officer's jurisdiction.

Ald. Fleming moved, "That it be a recommendation. to the Incoming Council, to make provision in the Estimates for the ensuing year for Playing Areas for Children.• Seconded by Ald. Roberts, and carried.

Ald. Dunn asked if it was a fact that the wprk on the Main Road would not be started until after 'Xmas. The Mayor intimated that Recommendation No. 0~1ltn the Works' Committee's Report that Evening instructed certain portions of the worR 1td be placed in hand before 'Xmas, so as not to incDnvenience the busy Shopping Centres during the 'Xmas Season.
