Homework 2: Due Feb 26

• Meteoroids. Asteroids. Comets. What’s the big deal? Give definitions, similarities, and differences. Give an EXAMPLE of EACH – (in the case of meteors, you may use a meteor shower). These examples should have some sort of name and time and maybe even historical import.

Homework 1: Due March 12

• We did a VERY short section on astronomy history. We briefly covered 10 astronomers. There are DOZENS more. You must pick one – get this approved by me – and do a VERY short report (Who is it, where were they from, when did they live, what kind of astronomy did they accomplish, why are they famous). 3 paragraph minimum.

Homework 6: Due April 30

• Telescopes:1. Do research on 1 major telescope or

telescope array – either Earth or space 2. Discuss the W’s – Where is it? Who made it?

When was it built? What part of the EM spectrum does it study? Why was it built?

3. Has it made any specific discoveries? If so, discuss.

Homework 7: Due May 14

• Find a photo:1. Find one photo from the Hubble Space

telescope or some other extra terrestrial camera that intrigues you.

2. Explain what about it makes you happy. 3. Explain what the photo is of, according to

astronomers. Give background on that group of objects, and specifics on this one.

Homework 8: Due May 28

• Research one space probe:1. Pick ONE successful space probe. 2. What country / group sponsored this mission?3. What was the primary objective?4. How and When was this probe launched?5. Did the probe complete its mission? Describe

the mission in detail as well as any findings resulting.
