“I don’t like to follow the crowd.I like to seduce, with images that are at once disturbing and beautiful, but leaving a space for the viewer to enter my world. My portraits combine elements which evoke conflictingemotions that can surprise the viewer, telling a story that is somewherebetween fantasy and reality, the obvious and the unexpected.” – Vee Speers.

Vee Speers has 5 collections:

~Thirteen~Immortal~The Birthday Party~Parisians~Bordello

Thirteen is a collection about Vee’s daughter, it represents the change from child to teen, and all the struggles and changes that comes with it.The photos all consist of very good lighting techniques, the colour themes against the plain background sets the emotion and helps you sense the mood of the collection.

I like the collection, because the costumes, props, and effects make the photos look pretty and really works with what the collection is representing.

Vee Speers’ photo based art is a collection that portrays natural beauty, the idea of eden-like nature. By setting the models against a picturesque background, it brings out the element of  young beauty, but they seem isolated, exposed and vulnerable, distant, and confronted by echoes of subliminal fears and insecurities.Vee describes the models as tragic fallen angels, looking out into an uncertain future, unaware of how they are naturally beautiful.

I like the glossy look to the pieces, and the choice of backgrounds.

The Birthday Party is a collection made up of photographs of children in different costume. The message is to represent children dressing up to transform into a princess, soldier, boxer, etc, and the portraits remind us of our own childhood, poised for adventure and fun. The way that play can take you away from your situation for a while, and disclose underlying realities of the modern world.

I like this collection because the stance and facial expressions of the children, looking directly to the camera, adds overwhelming imagery, and triggers thoughts to children today, and modern society.

Parisians is a collection based on eye for detail againstdramatic backdrops, reminiscent of the early touring circus shows. All the photographs were taken in France, where the collection is based. ‘Paris is one of those cities where people can express themselves as they like, and no-one bats an eye-lid. It’s easy to be inspired here.’

This collection is made up of pictures of beautiful women, and it causes the viewer to merge with the surroundings, entering an almost dream-like vision, escaping a vile reality. The distance between the photographer and the subject become hazy, losing definition and imagination overpowers all. “She shows beauty where beauty can be terribly absent.”
