Last Thursday evening’s Art Exhibition at the Memorial Hall was well-attended, with many locals and visitors taking the opportunity to view the wide range of art works and student performances. Portraits were the main theme for this year’s exhibition, and as well as students’ drawings and paintings there were large-scale rasterized photos, charcoal drawings, mosaics and wood/metal cutouts. Local photographer James Ridley, artist Marcia Wiencke, and Clairre Cumming and Leonie Campbell from the Splatter Café in West Wyalong had a number of works on display, as well as some airbrushed dragons which Marc McBride created as part of his Illustrator workshop at the school last week. Students performed music throughout the evening, and the Community Band played a set before the Official Opening by Councillor Kerry Keatley. Mr Keatley (pictured above with Mrs Lisa Payne) announced the winners of the portrait competitions, which were as follows : Open Drawing : 1st Clairre Cumming, HC Melanie Uys Student Drawing : 1st Rebecca Cumming, HC Abby Wason, Bronte Daniher and Chloe Brewer

Open Photography : 1st Lorraine Williams, HC Susan Cronin, Brony Mason Junior Photography : 1st Kate Payne, HC Lucy Payne. Many thanks to our judge Andrew Bussenschutt for giving up his time to help with the competition, and to all the entrants for their works. Vanessa Williams won the Door competition prize, with Karen Rossiter 2nd. Emma’s dancers followed the official opening, and performed an energetic, entertaining routine to “Timber” by Pitbull. Throughout the evening Mrs Wason’s catering crew made sure that no one went away hungry, and many were impressed by the delicious nibbles on offer. Congratulations to all our exhibitors, we look forward to another successful exhitibion in 2016! For those interested in trying their own photomosaic, visit the EaxyMoza.com site and follow the instructions. The Mona Lisa used 1027 photos taken at UCS over the past 12 months to fill in the mosaic, and the final file was printed at Officeworks in Wagga. SPECIAL PERSONS’ DAY The Assembly Hall was packed last Thursday when family and friends came to school to join in Special Person’s Day. The Assembly began with the students’ performance of the catchy “Paint You A Song” at 12.30pm (scheduled to run simultaneously with other schools across Australia as part of the Music : Count Us In programme). Primary students have been working on the song since Term 3, and Years K-4 were accompanied by Year 5/6 and Seth McCubbin on recorders, and Jack Wason, Angus Williams and Mrs Mason on guitars. Mrs Lisa Payne’s Year 5 Leadership group gave an iMovie presentation of their Food Garden and other student works were

displayed by primary and secondary classes. A number of awards were presented to students, including Home Readers and Habit of Mind Merit awards. After the assembly everyone enjoyed a barbecue lunch, then it was time for the Special Persons’ Day activities, organised by Emma Barber. These included craft, family photos and technology activities. Top and below : “Paint You a Song” performers in action! Above : K/1 Home Reader awards.
