Featuring Diane McClary 2013 Poster Artist

La Quinta artist, Diane McClary’s work is characterized by hercareful attention to both light and color. What makes her artexciting is the interplay of these two key elements, and herinnate understanding that in a well executed painting, less isvery often more.

McClary, a gifted plein air painter, controls the mood and thefeeling of her work by constantly striving to accurately reflectthe color harmony that is true according to the quality of light atthat very moment.

The artist has honed her painting skills over three decades, firstunder the tutelage of master painters Sergei Bongart and RonLukas, and later as a painting teacher herself, in the workshopsshe has led throughout the US, in Africa, Asia and elsewhere.McClary has also carefully studied the work of the painters shemost admires, including Maynard Dixon, Paul Grimm and WilliamWendt, among others, learning from their distinctive painting stylesand concentrating on the compositional structures and colorpalettes that these artists used so skillfully.

If there is a definitive word to describe this artist’s approach topainting, it is ‘confidence’. McClary is clearly comfortable workingwithout a net, and in taking risks to achieve the results she isseeking. Her canvases feel complete, with all the elementsnecessary to carry the visual narrative forward, and executed ina manner that invites the viewer to go beyond mere observer andbecome a full participant. Each of McClary's thoughtful paintingscarries to the viewer a nonverbal interaction that extends backthrough to the artist herself. These are the paintings of a matureartist with prodigious talent, and in complete control of her craft.
