It was wrien at the time of last week's celebration of the Blessed Solemnity of the Annunciation, just as our more restrictive guidelines came into place. The Archbishop writes, "Upon hearing the words of the angel Gabriel, 'For nothing will be impossible for God" Mary made her great fiat and the Word was made flesh. Our salvation, our Lord and Redeemer Jesus entered the world. Emmanuel, "God with us" became reality and truth. These words, 'For nothing will be impossible for God' are words apropos to the times in which we find our- selves. Our Lord has chosen us to be alive in this time of histo- ry serving as his priests. We must put our trust and confidence in the Lord, knowing that he is with us as the evil one will tempt us with discouragement and fear. Each day as I offer Mass I pray for you that the Lord will bless you, strengthen you and protect you as you serve the faithful. Saint Augustine reminds us, "God would never allow any evil whatsoever to exist in his works if he were not so all-powerful as to cause good things to emerge from evil itself." Archbishop Aquila reminds us of several things which are es- sential for our remembrance and use at this trying time. First, we are not alone. These past few weeks not having a congre- gation for Mass has clarified for me the holy communal nature of our faith. But, when that communing is curtailed, it takes a different from. We become a community of prayer and spir- itual support, drawing on that font of grace which comes from fervent prayer. The second point of the Archbishop for us to consider is that temptation (and its accompanying vice, fear) continue to plague us, perhaps more acutely at this time. But, under God's protection we know that this has no power over those who tru- ly place their trust in God. Lastly, in quoting St. Augustine, the Archbishop reminds us that God has a plan. His plan is always glorification of God and eternal joy and happiness for his creation. Out of difficulty and pain come fruits and bless- ings beyond measure. I pray that you are experiencing some of these fruits in your own lives right here and now. I also pray for us all that we will have the wisdom to see the fruits of this experience in the future. God bless you and your families as we go forward with trust. Continue to watch Mass on our website. Our numbers have been terrific. Many are experiencing Daily Mass for the first time! There is a true fruit of the Spirit! Hopefully soon, we will be gathered again in our beautiful church to give thanks and glory to God as is our true call, our spiritual sup- port, and our hope. Fr. A MESSAGE TO ALL

I would like to share with you an excerpt from a leer which Archbishop Aquila recently wrote to the priests of the Archdi-ocese. Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion He must have done a thousand righteous things in his life. He was chosen by Jesus himself to be one of the Twelve. He was trusted to be the treasurer, and to hold the group’s money bag. Yet, his eternal title will be Judas, the Betrayer. We’ll never know why on earth he did it. For thirty pieces of silver? The cynic says, “Of course. People will do anything for money.” But is there any one of us who would hand a loved one over to be tortured and killed because we could make money by doing so? Never. Judas was up to something, and even today scholars can’t quite discern what it was. I’m intrigued by what the author of Mahew’s gospel says: “Then Judas, his Betrayer, seeing that he had been condemned, greatly regreed what he had done.” Did Judas try to step into history and force God’s hand? Did he think that once the sol-diers took hold of Jesus in Gethsemane he would call upon his legion of angels, who would slay anyone laying a hand on God’s Anointed? It followed that Jesus would then gather an army who would roust the Romans from Israel, and the Jews would once again control their homeland. Judas (before he was “the Betrayer”) was no doubt named aer Judas Maccabeus, the great warrior who liberated Jerusalem from the Seleucids. Judas―perhaps thinking of his great ancestor― was willing to temporarily “betray” Jesus in order to finally get him to harness his heavenly powers. But it didn’t happen that way. Jesus was condemned to death. His Betrayer hanged himself. And Jesus set out on the way of the liberation of the Cross. For what betrayals in your own life have you been forgiven and set free to be happy again? To what are you, like Hillel, giving your life? Kathy McGovern ©2020 www.thestoryandyou.com

OUTREACH - Your Stewardship (time, talent, treasure) In Action

There are many great outreach opportunities. If you would like to see other ministries here at SOC, then look on our website under ministries or call Silvia in the office. hps://spiritofchrist.org/ministries.html

STEWARDSHIP OF YOUR TITHE Your Tithing continues to enable Spirit of Christ to be Stewards by supporting so many and varied ways we can bring the Gospel to our community and the world. The following organization has received grant money from Spirit of Christ. The Action Center theactioncenterco.org 303-237-6002 -The Jeffco Action Center, Inc., dba The Action Center pro-vides an immediate response to basic human needs and promotes pathways to self-sufficiency. Funding will be used to Assist The Action Center in providing a variety of Emergency Services to the poor, the working poor, and the homeless of Jefferson County, as described in the aached proposal. Spirit of Christ funds will be applied to direct costs only- not general operating.

Donate a car - Help a single mother with transporta-tion. Hands of The Carpenter (Hands) is hearing from single mothers who need a reliable car to transport children and get to work. Your older car could make life easier for a woman living on a tight budget. For more information and to start the donation process, go to www.ehands.org. Look for the “Donate a vehicle” but-ton at the top of the homepage. Thank you for your prayerful consideration. [email protected]

Soup Kitchen helpers will not go in March, but may resume in April— 4th and 5th Wednesday of each month. Meet at 9:30 AM to car pool down. Re-turn at noonish. If you can’t join us, but would like to help, then you may bring a dessert to be served that day, please drop them off at the parish office that morning by 9am and we will take them. To help, call Becky at 303/428-2509.

Fair Trade - Are you wondering? "How much of what I'm paying gets back to the producer's pocket? How much did it cost to produce? Is it fair?" Based on international commodity market prices, generally determined by BIG CHAINS, the price paid to farm-ers for green coffee does not cover the cost of pro-duction or support the livelihoods for farmers and their families. On 2/24/20, the market for green cof-fee closed at $1.07/lb. Last May, it dipped to just $.89/lb. These price are not sustainable for farmers to live on. The fair trade minimum is $1.60/lb for conventional coffee and $1.90/lb for organic. Equal Exchange pays their farmer partners an average price of $2.38/lb for green coffee. This means co-ops can pay farmers a sustainable price and the organi-zations can invest back into their operations. Let's not leave the actual farmer producers to the mercy of volatile markets. Please consider supporting Fair Trade at SOC. The next sale will be April 25-26.

Birthright Sewing Thank you for all your donations of new shirts, one-sies and material for us to sew baby and children clothing to donate to needy organizations. We welcome donations of material, notions and yarn throughout the year. Contact Dona at 303-421-9339 or Thelma at 303-422-8873.
