Mae’s Corner April 2017 Something New To Keep Our Members Informed

Happy Easter!!! Just a reminder that we will be closed on April 14th for Good Friday, but don’t miss our special Easter Lunch on April 12th. Ham, scalloped potatoes, butter carrots, Cole slaw and as always a great dessert. Have you signed up for the Sail Boston trip? Seats are going fast so come in and put down a deposit. We are also going to the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania and the Finger Lakes on 5-8 September. I wanted to remind all of all members that seats can not be saved or reserved. So don’t place silverware and napkins down for a friend if they are not here. As you know we are very crowded for almost every meal and this is the only fair way to make sure everyone gets a seat. Also if you do not buy a lunch, a take-out meal is $5.00. I hope every one has a Happy Easter. Your membership representative, Mae

April is here and hopefully not a lot of showers. This month we will be having an Easter tea. It will be

April 12 at 10am, wear your Easter bonnet, there will be a prize for the most beautiful creation. Also

we will have entertainment as well as tea and good treats. So come on out and celebrate the Easter

season with us. Sign up is in the book.

On April 6 and 20th we will be having game nights. They are really a lot of fun and the food is good

too. So come on out and check us out. We don’t only play cards, we have board games too along with

Wii.

Then on April 27, Our first Social night. Come on in from 4-8 and sit and socialize, play games along

with light snacks. Bring some friends I can take them on a tour and maybe get some new members or

meet new members. Everyone is WELCOME!

Chair exercises are on Tuesdays and Thursdays with Robin who is a rehabilitation technician.

Wii bowling is on Mondays and Thursdays with Agnes Case. 10am – 11:30.

Computer class with Doc is every Thursday 10-11:30.

As always

Keep Smiling

GETTING TO KNOW YOU

by Doris Hoover

Maria Col-on Velazquez Patton is a WOW. A vitamin pill with legs. She was born in Puerto Rico September 25, 1943, one of seven children to Magdalena and Ramon Col-on. Maria received three years education in PR before moving to New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Continuing her schooling and gradu-ating from Penn Treaty Jr Hi School, she attended the VOK Vocational school in Philadelphia. Her first marriage to Harry Dolan produced two children and three granddaughters. She is now married to Richard Patton and will celebrate their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary July 4, 2017. She bought lake side property in Lincoln with a 125 year old house, which they tore down and build a charming 2-story home with circular drive way.

Maria has lived an exciting and interesting life. When a teen-ager she was employed at the F.W. Woolworth Five and Dime Store, the Botany 500 (now a landmark) the Pennsylvania Hospital and the next 17 years at the Pantry Pride Market Store. The next 25 years she made it possible for students in the Upper Moreland School District, Willow Grove, PA to arrive at school safe and on time. Maria was so pleased and awarded by the happy smiles and hugs received from the scores of children.

Maria spends many hours crocheting baby caps for the Milford Hospital. She is a long time member of the AARP Milford Chapter holding several positions thru the years and also Gift Shop Manager at the MSC for five years. Currently a dedicated member at the FSC where she enjoys the “Boot and Scoot” line dancing, Bongo, the “Craft Room” where she continues her expertise with sewing and crocheting, the “Card Clubs” and “Game Nights.”

Maria Patton has many favorites. One being the color yellow and passionate about Latin spicy foods. She tried all the restaurants in the area but prefers the Arena” in Milford. Other favorites are the movie South Pacific, Marlon Brando, TV show Grimm, Ricky Nelson, and the song Calendar Girls. She is dreaming of a cruise to Alaska vacation.

Christian Tabernacle Church in Lincoln and the Corner Stone in Milford is where she spends her Sabbath Sundays. She also attends bible study at the Freedom Baptist Church in Frederica.

Maria’s advice: Keep smiling and Treat people as you would like to be treated.

What a lovable jolly person she is. Reach out and give a hug to our lady of the month…Maria Patton.
