The

Play No.1 Kid Stakes, was very successful. Before Play No.2, Anne of Green Gables gets underway, we make mention of a special presenta-tion for the April monthly meeting. A full production of the one act play, Booth at the End will be pre-sented. The play has developed out of a script re-jigged from Christo-pher Kubasik’s Web TV series. People visit a mysterious figure in the corner booth at the back of a diner. Each character has heard ru-mors that this man is able to grant desires, provided that a task is per-formed, with continual updates on that task being given, and when completed, the character’s desire is always fulfilled. The play tries to justify extreme social behavior, good and bad. The director, Gary Kliger, has most recently been with Nash Thea-tre, but has also directed Little Mur-ders by Jules Feiffer at Centenary Theatre Group at Chelmer a couple of years ago.

This play is a short and sharp ver-sion of the whole first season TV se-ries and has presented a challenge to the director and cast, which all have thoroughly enjoyed. So, members, subscribers, friends and guests, come and enjoy this unique experience.

The production features VP per-formers Jenny Brunner, Nick Morris-sey, Pat Leo and Matt Knox, with James Theologidis, Hayley Maybury, Samantha Cable and Kate Christopher.

Hope that you all had a very happy and safe Easter break. While the temperatures outside are finally coming down, we have some wonderful theatre on the boil to warm you up! After a tremendous run with Kid Stakes, rehearsals are just starting for Anne of Green Gables. This is proving very popular with our patrons and we have several bookings al-ready! This big cast production will be a mix of experienced actors and some very new and young actors. We welcome all our new actors especially Olivia Woods in the role of Anne, and it will be great to see Dayna and Adunni Ekundayo on stage, after all their help behind the scenes painting our sets, partic-ularly the rock in last year’s En Suite. Also Gemma Dixon, who was the off stage voice of Bubba in Kid Stakes, will now be on stage as Minne May. Sadly, there has been some vandalism of the power sup-ply to the Seven Hills site where our Theatre is located. Ener-gex are working with Heran to repair the connection, but at

the moment there is no power to the site, so our next monthly meeting will have to be held at the Hut, Jean Howie Drive, in Balmoral Park. Gary Kliger and his team have been working on an adapta-tion of a television series Booth at the End. This promises to be a very gripping moral drama about the lengths to which people are prepared to go to get what they want. The cast includes some of our regulars, such as Patrick Leo and Jenny Brunner, along with some actors new to VPs. I encourage you all to come along and support your fellow members. Cheers Leo

2013 FORTHCOMING PRODUCTIONS

Play No. 2 - ANNE OF GREEN GABLES by Joseph Robinette - directed by Jill Cross

31 MAY to 22 JUNE In the picturesque but harsh countryside of Prince

Edward Island in the Maritime Provinces of Canada, an aging couple is struggling to run a small proper-ty. They send off to a Nova Scotia orphanage for a boy to do the heavy work, but instead a girl with

red hair arrives on the train and who changes the lives of the people of the small town of Avonlea.

Play No. 3 - THE GOOD DOCTOR by Neil Simon - directed by Maria Plumb

30 AUGUST to 14 SEPTEMBER Doctor Anton Chekov observed life in the restrictive society of 19th century Russia. You will be carried along from the rough physical humour of The Ap-

pointment to the bizarre Drowned Man to the pathos of The Sneeze and the sheer delight of The

Audition - a night of intense comedy.

Play No. 4 - ALONE IT STANDS by John Breen - directed by Leo Bradley

22 NOVEMBER to 7 DECEMBER An event known to all Rugby players and fans the world over. On 31 October 1978, the impossible happened. The invincible New Zealand All Blacks

met the minor Munster team on a field in Ireland and there was only one possible outcome - or was there? This play has

all the excitement of a rugby grand final and is for all rugby fans and those who don’t know one end of a rugby ball from

the other.

short and sharp version of the whole first season TV series and has present-ed a challenge to the director and cast,

which all have thoroughly enjoyed.

MARCH ENTERTAINMENT

In keeping with our policy of showcasing new talent, our March meeting’s entertain-ment was given over to rehearsed readings from new member Liz Loethen who presented some very good readings from our forthcoming Anne of Green Gables and from Dr Who. Other members were given the opportunity to present material and Michael Byrnes gave us a splendid reading from a play he’s reading. It’s good to see that VPs has some up and coming great talent that audiences will see and appreciate in future productions. We’re always on the lookout for talent.

At this stage, because of advanced interest and

even some bookings, it is proposed to extend the season of Anne of Green Gables to a four week season

15 performances instead of the usual 12 which would make the season

31st May to 22nd June

Our thoughts and prayers are with

our member Richard Gillies and his family after the recent death of his dad, Trevor. Richard is an active VPs member who has participated in many productions over the years. His cheerful disposition has uplifted many meetings and productions. We are

thinking of him at this time.
