LADYBIRD CLASS

We have been learning all about “Transport” as part of our current IPC unit. For the past week, our focus has been on learning about the various types of ‘Land’ transport. To extend our learning beyond school, the Ladybirds decided to involve our extended Ladybird families in our very own ‘Box Car’ project. Each of us had a week to work on our ‘Box Car’ with our parents and families. We then had to bring in our completed ‘cars’ to school on Friday for our ‘Show & Tell’. Last Friday, there were some amazing ‘Box cars’ to be seen as our Ladybirds brought in their completed projects. Each car was unique and wonderfully made. Some even came with fully equipped (and working) headlights and brake lights! We all enjoyed sharing our creations with each other during our ‘Show & Tell’, demonstrating to our friends our knowledge of the different parts of a car and how to go about driving our ‘car’. We also shared who had been involved in the making of our ‘cars’. Later in the afternoon, we enjoyed driving our ‘cars’ around up on the school’s rooftop after our class picnic. It was a great afternoon for the Ladybirds and their families!

YEAR 1 IPC ENTRY POINT

FLOWERS & INSECTS! The year 1's started their new IPC unit - Flowers and Insects. They went on a bug hunt

at the back of the school and found lots of interesting insects. They looked at them

under a magnifying glass and filled in a checklist of the bugs they found. They let them

go at the end of the day. It was a beautiful sunny day and lots of fun!

PANDA CLASS - IPC ENTRY POINT

SHOPPING! The Panda class are exploring Shops as part of their IPC Unit, “Shopping”. Last week the Panda's walked to the local supermarket to buy some fruit! We first practiced writing shopping lists and decided what fruit we needed to make a healthy fruit salad. We noticed that all the food in the Supermarket was grouped together in different categories. This makes it much easier to find the food we need. When we returned we washed the fruit before each making a delicious fruit salad – the Panda's love to eat healthy fruit! On May 30th we will sing a shopping song at assembly all about the different food groupings in the supermarket!

PTA SCHOOL SAFETY COMMITTEE

Dear Parents, We have created a PTA School Safety Committee to help co-ordinate two main tasks:

To organise a rota of parent volunteers who can help provide a safer environment for our children when walking to and from school.

To channel communication about safety between the parents and the school. This Committee requires a Chairperson to head it and a meeting will be held with Mr Colin at the school tomorrow morning, Thursday 22nd May 2014 at 8.40am, to discuss these matters with those of you who are interested in helping out. Please request to join the new group to be kept informed about what is happening or please email us [email protected] https://www.facebook.com/groups/755379941150101/

Principal’s Awards! Congratulations to all students who have been nominated for Principal’s Awards this week!

RAINY DAYS AT ISK RAIN BEFORE SCHOOL Yesterday morning, it was evident that many children were not dressed appropriately for the rain. The school has, on a number of occasions, advised parents to dress their children in a rain-coat and rain-boots. An umbrella would also be desirable.

As stated in the Parent Handbook, all students are expected to remain outside and line up as they usually would on hearing the bell. However, we will continue to monitor this and inform parents of any changes that we make. AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ON RAINY DAYS We will no longer cancel outdoor After School Activities due to rain.

Often the school has some difficulty in contacting all parents about the cancellations. We also recognise that the cancellation of these activities can, in many cases, cause problems for parents who may need to reschedule their pick-up times. Furthermore, we are very reluctant for children to miss out on these activities.

From now on, all After School Activities will continue as planned. However, in the event of heavy rain, a suitable location will be provided indoors.
