ALLEGORY

A story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one. Allegory is a figure of speech in which abstract ideas and principles are described in terms of characters, figures and events. It can be used in prose and poetry to tell a story with a purpose of teaching an idea and a principle or explaining an idea or a principle. The objective of its use is to show a moral lesson.

Examples:

-Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser is a religious or moral allegory where characters represent virtues and vices.

-The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis is a religious allegory with Aslan as Christ and Edmund as Judas.
