many of us, a well-deserved rest, an annual family gathering, a friendlyreencounter or the mystery of discovering an unknown destination.As far as AIR NOSTRUM is concerned, however, it is probably one ofthe Company’s busiest times of the year and as such shall, during thisyear’s busy holiday period, be offering an important increase in itsnumber of flights routes. The idea behind this increase in flight routesis to be able to offer passengers as many national and internationalholiday destinations as possible.Thanks to the above, passengers will be able during the period from20th July to 2nd September to choose from a total of 167 destinationsincluding 51 special summer destinations. Altamira, Patrimonio de la Humanidad, es el símbolo universalde esta valiosa herencia paleolítica que convive con otro legado subterráneono menos sorprendente: las más de 6.500 cuevas de impresionantes formasgeológicas y paisajes espectaculares como El Soplao.

Cantabria is said to house, amongst other things, the world’s largestnumber of caves with cave paintings. Its famous World HeritageSite, Altamira, stands out as the universal symbol of this beautifulSpanish region’s valuable Palaeolithic patrimony along with the noless surprising legacy of over 6,500 caves. This legacy includes theextraordinary El Soplao Cave, famous not only for its magnificentgeological forms but also for its spectacular scenery.

UNA RUTA ÚNICA POR EL ARTE PREHISTÓRICOUna forma distinta de conocer Cantabria es a través del recorrido por cinco cuevas

visitables en las que se pueden contemplar auténticos tesoros del arte paleolítico.Partiendo de oeste a este, la primera parada es en la Cueva del Chufín, situada enRiclones (Rionansa). En esta caverna se han diferenciado tres conjuntos artísticos enfunción de sus técnicas, temas y momento de ejecución. Así, los artistas de El Chufínutilizaron las técnicas del grabado profundo, trazo lineal y figuras grabadas y los temasson animales –ciervas, bóvidos, caballos y bisontes– y signos y líneas inclasificables.

cave paintings, ideal potholing conditions and a wide variety of surprisingsubterranean scenery that includes the Ason and El Soplao basins.

This marvellous region houses, in a surface area of just over 5,000 squaremeters, the largest number of caves with cave paintings in the world. Altamira,World Heritage Site, stands out as the universal symbol of this valuablePalaeolithic patrimony. The Altamira Caves offer an excellent example of theartistic skills of what Menendez Pelayo referred to as primitive artists andtheir lifelike paintings of deer, horses and bison along with other symbols andmarks conserved on the walls and ceilings of caves such as El Castillo,Las Monedas, Las Chimeneas and Cullalvera where visitors are offered amarvellous journey into the origins of the History of Universal Art.

A UNIQUE TOUR OF PREHISTORIC ARTA tour of five of Cantabria’s most famous caves, well-known for their

Palaeolithic art, is not only an excellent but also a novel way of discoveringsome of Cantabria’s most famous treasures. We would suggest visitors travelfrom west to east starting off with a visit to the Chufin Cave situated inRiclones (Rionansa). Three different types of artwork can be found here alongwith the engraving and scraping techniques used to depict animals such asthe deer, horse and bison and other signs and unclassified lines.

A menos de 30 kilómetros se halla Altamira (Santillana del Mar). Actualmente no esposible la visita a la cueva original, pero gracias a la tecnología se puede contemplar entoda su magnitud el arte del hombre que habitó aquellos parajes en la réplica situada en elMuseo Altamira. El complejo museístico de Altamira, que comprende la Neocueva, elMuseo y el centro de investigación, está considerado como el centro europeo más impor-tante en la divulgación prehistórica. Junto a este complejo, se halla la cueva de Altamira,cuyo arte aparece disperso en toda su longitud, de más de 300 metros, destacando elfamoso techo de los bisontes.

Muy cerca, en la localidad de Puente Viesgo, concretamente en el monte Castillo, seconcentran un importante número de cuevas que aportan innumerables vestigios delhombre prehistórico. La cueva del Castillo, descubierta en 1903, ofrece la primera y másclara secuencia de un asentamiento humano desde el Paleolítico hasta la época histórica.En ella se pueden observar sedimentos de distintos periodos prehistóricos y en su interiorsus habitantes dejaron huellas de lo que se supone sus manifestaciones místicas yreligiosas. La cueva del Castillo alberga pinturas, con un margen de 6.000 años entre lasprimeras y las últimas figuras. Las representaciones, colorido y técnicas utilizadas sonmuy variadas. Las más representativas son los signos abstractos de puntuaciones y lasmanos en positivo y negativo.

Siguiendo esta peculiar ruta subterránea, llegamos a la cueva de El Pendo, en Escobedo deCamargo, descubierta en 1878 (un año antes que Altamira) por Marcelino Sanz de Satuola. ElPendo es uno de los yacimientos arqueológicos más importantes de la región. Cuenta conuna especial formación geológica y registros humanos de hace más de 80.000 años. En 1997fue descubierto el “friso de las pinturas”, un gran panel de 25 metros de longitud, con

Close by on Mount Castillo, in the town of Puente Viegso, another importantnumber of caves can be found with Prehistoric remains. The Castillo Cave,discovered in 1903, offers the first and clearest picture of a human settlementfrom the Palaeolithic to the present era. Here visitors will find remains fromdifferent Prehistoric periods with evidence of the mystical and religious tendenciesof its ancient settlers. The Castillo Cave houses cave paintings covering a periodof some 6,000 years. The cave stands out for the different techniques andcolouring used and the numerous abstract signs and positive and negative handprints found.

From here, we would suggest visitors continue on to the Pendo Cave inEscobedo de Camargo, discovered in 1878 (a year before the Altamira Caves)by Marcelino Sanz de Satuola. The Pendo Cave is one of the region’s mostimportant archaeological sites. It offers unique geological forms and signs ofancient settlers dating back over 80,000 years. En Covalanas, localizada a escasos kilómetros del pueblo de Ramales de la Victoria,se puede observar un conjunto de 22 figuras, de las cuales 18 son ciervas.The Covalanas Cave, situated a few kilometres from Ramales de la Victoria,offers paintings with a total of 22 figures of which 18 are deer.

Chufín, Las Monedas, La Pasiega, El Castillo, El Pendo y Covalanas junto con Hornos de la Peñay La Garma constituyen el conjunto de cavidades de Cantabria que junto a cuatro asturianas ydos vascas optan a ser declaradas, próximamente, Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO.

16 representaciones de animales, además de algunos signos, a los que se atribuye unaantigüedad de alrededor de 20.000 años atrás. El conjunto del friso es de gran espectacula-ridad. Lo componen varias ciervas, una cabra, un caballo y otros dos animales sin identificar.

Y finalizamos el recorrido por la Prehistoria en Covalanas, localizada a escasoskilómetros del pueblo de Ramales de la Victoria. En una zona profunda encontramos unagalería en la que se localiza el conjunto de representaciones más numeroso de la cueva,con 22 figuras de las cuales 18 son ciervas, animal característico de las cuevas decoradasde Cantabria, un caballo, un reno, un uro y un animal difícil de identificar. Dispersos portoda la cueva existen trazos negros y en la zona terminal se ven algunos restos de pinturaroja indescrifrables, cuyo horizonte cronológico data de entre hace 20.000 a 14.400 años.

Varias de estas cuevas, Chufín, Las Monedas, La Pasiega, El Castillo, El Pendo yCovalanas junto con Hornos de la Peña y La Garma constituyen el conjunto de cavidadesde Cantabria que junto a cuatro asturianas y dos vascas optan a ser declaradas, próxima-mente, Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO.

EL SOPLAO, ‘CAPILLA SIXTINA DE LA GEOLOGÍA’Si apasionante resulta adentrarse bajo tierra para descubrir la destreza de los artistas del

Paleolítico, no menos sorprendente resulta la visita a la cueva de El Soplao, uno de losgrandes tesoros de la espeleología mundial, a la que ya se la ha bautizado con el nombrede Capilla Sixtina de la Geología.

La cueva, situada entre los municipios de Valdáliga, Herrerías y Rionansa, es conocidadesde finales del siglo XIX debido a la explotación de las minas de La Florida. El Gobiernode Cantabria ha desarrollado un ambicioso proyecto de acondicionamiento de la cavidad, de15 kilómetros de longitud, para su uso turístico, que permite dos tipos de visita (visitaturística y turismo aventura). El Soplao constituye una maravilla espeleológica internacional,con grandes superficies tapizadas de aragonitos, helictitas, pisolitas, gours, estalactitas yestalagmitas, que provocan todo un juego de luces, sombras y sensaciones, y cuyo máximoexponente son las excéntricas, una formación singular que prolifera en El Soplao.

El pasado mes de marzo se inauguraba la segunda fase del acondicionamiento turísticode esta cavidad, un nuevo paso en la creación de un proyecto mucho más ambiciosopromovido por la Consejería de Cultura, Turismo y Deporte y con el que se pretendeofrecer una nueva cara de la cueva y contextualizar su valor geológico y su pasado minerodentro de un gran parque temático denominado Territorio Soplao.

La nueva dimensión de Territorio Soplao permite no sólo conocer la cueva en las dosmodalidades de visita turística y turismo-aventura, sino también descubrir el magníficoentorno de ésta y pasear por un parque temático en el que el paisaje y los vestigios minerosse alían con los nuevos edificios y miradores que enriquecen la visita.

Casi en el extremo opuesto de la región, en la comarca de Asón-Agüera, encontramos másde cuatro mil cuevas que se dispersan por todo el subsuelo de esta zona, formando algunosde los mayores sistemas subterráneos de Europa. La cantidad y calidad de las cuevas,algunas unidas entre sí, han propiciado que esta zona sea internacionalmente conocida. Conla apertura de la “Red de Cuevas del Alto Asón”, estos tesoros subterráneos antes conocidossólo por expertos espeleólogos, se han abierto a todos los públicos mediante un circuito devisitas guiadas por profesionales que permiten conocer estas maravillas geológicas acualquier persona, independientemente de su edad, experiencia o forma física.

This small tour of prehistoric art finishes at the Covalanas Cave situated justa few kilometres from the town of Ramales de la Victoria. Although the caveentrance is small, it is easily accessible. Deep inside, visitors will find a gallerywith a total of 22 paintings of which 18 are “hinds”, a characteristic animaldrawing in the Cantabrian caves, along with a horse, a reindeer, an auroch and ahard to identify animal. There are also a large number of black marks dotted allover the cave and some indecipherable remains of red paintings dated between14,400 and 20,000 years old.

A number of these caves such as the Chufin, Monedas, Pasiega, Castillo, Pendoand Covalanas together with the Hornos de la Peña and Garma will shortly beconfirmed, along with four Asturian and two Basque caves, as World HeritageSite Monuments by the UNESCO.

EL SOPLAO, ‘SISTINE CHAPEL OF QUATERNARY ART’If going underground to discover the skill of the Palaeolithic artists is a thrilling

experience, no less thrilling is a visit to the famous El Soplao Cave, not only oneof the world’s greatest potholing treasures but also baptised as the ‘Sistine Chapelof Quaternary Art’.

This extraordinary cave situated between the municipalities of Valdaliga,Herrerias and Rionansa was discovered at the end of the 19th century duringthe works carried out at the Florida mine. The Cantabria Regional Government hascarried out a number of ambitious renovation works on this 15 kilometre long cavein order to attract tourists. Visitors are offered two types of visit, a tourist visit andan adventure visit. As mentioned previously, the El Soplao Cave is an authenticinternational potholing treasure comprising large areas of amazing geological andspeleological formations. It constitutes a wonderful spectacle full of Aragoniteformations, roof crusts, eccentric stalactites (very rare) and stalagmites, amongstothers, that produce a fascinating display of light and shadow.

The second phase of this magnificent project was inaugurated last March thanksto the Regional Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports. The object of this projectis to create a theme park, the ‘Territorio Soplao’ (Soplao Territory) Theme Park.

This magnificent project not only offers visitors the opportunity of choosingbetween a tourist visit and an adventure visit, it also offers the opportunity ofdiscovering its magnificent surroundings, spectacular scenery and the interestingremains of its ancient mining activities.

At the opposite end of Cantabria in the region of Ason-Agüera, another 4,000caves, a great many of which are interlinked, have been discovered. The quantityand quality of these caves has attracted international fame. The inauguration ofthe “Red de Cuevas del Alto Ason” (Alto Anson Cave Network) offers visitorsthe opportunity of visiting a number of these beautiful caves famous for theirspectacular scenery. Renaissance style cathedral was begun in1528 by Diego de Siloe. Consecrated in1588 and finished by Jose de Bada duringthe 18th century, it owes its popularnickname, the “Manquita” (one-armed), tothe fact that one of its twin towers remainsuncompleted. Its sumptuous interior, withclear Renaissance and Baroque influences,stands out for its magnificent sculpture byPedro de Mena, beautiful chapels and vaulteddomes, main altarpiece and elaborated choirstalls dating back to 17th century.

Canarias se implantarán un total de 32 rutas. Destacan como novedad este año, ya que sonel primer verano que se operan, los enlaces que unirán Alicante y Valladolid con Tenerife;Alicante con Gran Canaria; Albacete con Lanzarote; Santander y León con Ibiza; Badajoz,Melilla y León con Palma de Mallorca; así como Santander y Alicante con Menorca.

En el ámbito nacional, también se pondrán en marcha por primera vez en esta temporadalos enlaces que unirán Valladolid con Alicante; y Málaga con León. De este modo, todoel programa especial diseñado servirá para afianzar la posición de la compañía como laúnica aerolínea presente en todas las Comunidades Autónomas. In fact, the parkexists to rescue and protect animals from all over the world and to breed rare speciesof parrots to prevent their extinction. The inhabitants of this beautiful park are notkept in cages but rather live in small versions of their natural habitat. The magnificentorca, sea lion and dolphin show here is considered the biggest in Europe.

Europe will be offering two versions of its modern 2.0 litre common rail diesel car.The 110 kW/150 hp unit will power the Chevrolet Captiva and the Chevrolet Epicawhile the 89kW/121 hp version will be available in the compact Chevrolet Lacettihatchback, the Nubira sedan and the Nubira station wagon. The powerful andeconomical four cylinder diesel unit features a latest generation Bosch common-rail system in which the injectors pump the diesel fuel into the combustionchambers at a pressure of up to 1,600 bar. Other technical characteristics of theSOHC unit are the aluminium cylinder head, four-valve technology and a balanceshaft. This new range of diesel engines is also equipped with serial maintenance-free particulate filters. On the other hand, thanks to an automatic regenerationprocess, consumption and performance, emissions are practically the same withor without a filter. Equipped with a powerful diesel engine (maximum torque:280 Nm at 2000 rpm), the Lacetti, Lacetti/Nubira sedan and station wagonaccelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.8 seconds and have a top speed of nearly190 km/h. Despite these excellent performance figures, the new Lacetti/Nubiradiesel is very restrained when it comes to fuel consumption, needing only5.7 litres (sedan 5.7 litres, station wagon 6.0 litres) for 100 km (MVEG). largest European sales market. Carabinero 63º / 6´ carbón vegetal,“mezclum de hierbas y flores,cubo de patata líquido y parmesano”

63º/6´ charcoal carabinero prawn,“mezclum of herbs and flowers, parmesanand creamed potato cube”

INGREDIENTES PARA 4 PERSONAS: 4 carabineros "00", 1 piedra de carbón vegetal "tradi-cional", aceite de oliva, sal, 1 chile fresco, 1 chalota, cilantro, perejil, pimienta de jamaica,pimienta rosa, pimienta seshuan, curcuma, comino, vinagre de Jerez, vinagre balsámico,mezclum de hierbas y mezclum de flores.

PARA EL CRISTAL DE AZAHAR: Esencia de azahar, semilla de amapola, 500 gr. de azúcarisomalt y 1 cucharada de agua.

PARA EL CUBO DE PATATA: 500 gr. de patata.

RELLENO DEL CUBO DE PATATA: 100 gr. de patata, 1 puerro, 2 ajetes tiernos, 500 gr. de caldode ave, 1 cucharada de aceite de oliva virgen y 1 par de gotas de aceite de tartufo blanco.

PREPARACIÓN: Limpiar totalmente el carabinero reservando la cabeza por completo, retirarintestinos. Preparar un marinado sin líquidos con cilantro fresco, perejil, hierbabuena, chilefresco, chalota, pimientas de jamaica, rosa y seshuan, cúrcuma y comino. Poner todo en unmortero y untar bien el carabinero con la pasta, añadir un poco de sal y vinagre de Jerez desolera, vinagre balsámico y aceite de oliva virgen extra. Meter todo en una bolsa de vacío ysellar. Meter en la Roner a 63º durante 6 minutos. Enfriar con hielo y guardar.Mezclum de hierbas y flores: Limpiar todas la hierbas y ponerlas con agua abundante y hielo,escurrir y guardar. Seleccionar las flores y mezclarlas con las hierbas. Cubo de patata líquidoy parmesano: Cocer una patata y realizar con un molde un cubo de 2.50 x 2.50 cms. Para elrelleno, hacer una crema suave de patata, puerro y ajetes con caldo de ave. Para la ralladuradel parmesano, coger un microplane, fino redondo y rallar la cuña de queso parmesano.

PRESENTACIÓN: Para la elaboración de la cúpula de cristal: poner en un cazo el azúcarisomalt, unas gotas de azahar. Colocar a fuego directo a media temperatura y derretir hastauna temperatura de unos 120º. Hacer el caramelo y agregar la cuchara de agua mineral.Preparar un silpax en una placa de horno con un par de moldes de acero inoxidables. Una vezbajada la temperatura del azúcar, verter en los moldes de acero. Dejar unos segundos y elevarlentamente. Con la ayuda de un impulsor de aire o espirando aire de la boca, darle forma dela cúpula de cristal. Dejar enfriar y cortar. Espolvorear con unas semillas de amapola la cúpula.

INGREDIENTS FOR 4 SERVINGS: 4 “00” carabinero prawns, a “traditional” piece of charcoal,olive oil, salt, 1 fresh chilli, 1 shallot, coriander, parsley, mint, Jamaican pepper, pink pepper,seshuan pepper, turmeric, cumin, Jerez vinegar, balsamic vinegar, mezclum of herbs andMezclum of flowers.

ORANGE BLOSSOM CRYSTAL DOME: Orange blossom essence, poppy seeds, 500 gr.Isomalt sugar and 1 spoonful of water.

POTATO CUBE: 500 gr. potato.

POTATO CUBE FILLING: 100 gr. potato, 1 leek, 2 garlic shoots, 500 gr. chicken stock,1 spoonful of olive oil and a couple of drops of white “tartufo” oil.

PREPARATION: Peel the Carabinero prawns, remove the heads and reserve. Prepare a drymarinade with the fresh coriander, parsley, mint, fresh chilli, shallot, Jamaican, Pink andSeshuan pepper, tumeric and cumin. Mix the ingredients in a mortar and paste the prawns,adding a pinch of salt and some drops of Jerez and balsamic vinegar and virgin olive oil. Placethe prawns in an airtight bag and seal. Place the bag in the “Roner” at 63º for 6 minutes. Coolwith ice and reserve. Mezclum of herbs and flowers: Wash the herbs and place them in abundant water and icebefore straining and reserving. Select the flowers and mix them with the herbs. Parmesan and creamed potato cube: Cut out a cube-shaped mould of 2.5 x 2.5 cm. from aboiled potato. Make a smooth cream with potato, leek, garlic shoots and chicken stock. Usea fine, round microplane grater to grate the parmesan cheese.

PRESENTATION: For the elaboration of the crystal dome: Place the Isomalt sugar ina saucepan with a few drops of orange blossom essence. Melt at a temperature ofapproximately 120º. Once the sugar has caramelised add a spoonful of mineral water.Prepare a silpax in the oven with a pair of stainless steel moulds. Once the caramel hascooled, pour it into the moulds. Leave a few seconds and then with the help of an air pumpor just by blowing, create a crystal dome. Leave to cool and cut. Sprinkle with poppy seeds.

La provincia de Gerona tiene en el Paraje Natural de Interés Nacional de la Albera,que abarca aproximadamente 4.108 hectáreas, no sólo uno de sus enclaves deenvergadura de poblaciones de tortugas mediterráneas existentes en la penínsulaibérica.

la Albera está formado por dos sectoresperfectamente diferenciados: el occidental,de Requesens-Baussitges, y el oriental, deSant Quirze de Colera-Balmeta, separadospor la zona del Coll de Banyuls, formandoun conjunto dotado de una notable unidadecológica y paisajística.

A la sombra de sus cumbres principales,el Puig Neulós (1.257 m.), el Puig delsPastors (1.167 m.), el Puig dels QuatreTermes (1.156 m.) y el Pic de Sallafort(992 m.), se desarrolla una flora extraordi-nariamente diversa en la que despuntanárboles como acebos y tejos, ambos prote-gidos, alcornoques, madroños, arces comu-nes y de Montpellier, abedules, encinas,castaños, robles albares y pubescentes,hayas, fresnos, sauces, alisos... sin olvidarotras especies exóticas introducidas por elhombre como cipreses de los pantanos,abetos, tilos o pinos rodenos.

Pero si la pluralidad forestal es tan mag-nífica como inusual, no lo es menos la faunaque habita en estas tranquilas tierras en laque se dan cita 44 especies de mamíferos,casi el 75% del total de Cataluña. Hay quesubrayar la presencia de jabalíes, liebres,gamos, corzos, muflones, zorros rojos, gatosmonteses, garduñas, comadrejas, turones,ginetas, lirones grises y caretos, etc. El lis-tado de aves, con más de 200 especies,resulta igualmente sensacional. Así, junto arapaces como águilas reales y perdiceras,gavilanes, cernícalos primillas o búhos rea-les, se dan cita trepadores azules, currucascarrasqueñas y picos picapinos, entre otros.

Albera Nature Park is formed by twoperfectly defined areas: the westernRequesens-Baussitges area and theeastern Sant Quirze de Colera-Balmetaarea, separated by an area known as theColl de Banyuls.

Under the shadow of its main mountainpeaks: the Puig Neulos (1,257 meters), thePuig dels Pastor (1,167 meters), the Puigdels Quatre Termes (1,156 meters) and thePic de Sallafort (992 meters), visitors willfind an extraordinary variety of flora thatincludes, amongst others, protected treespecies such as the holly and yew trees orothers such as the cork oak, strawberry,maple and Montpellier maple, silverbirch, Holm oak, sweet chestnut, durmastoak, downy oak, beech, ash, willow andalder trees. In addition this impressive variety oftree species, visitors will find a no lessimpressive variety of animal species. Theseinclude 44 different types of mammals,75% of the mammals that inhabit theentire Catalonian region. We wouldmention, amongst others, the wild boar,hare, fallow deer, roe deer, mouflon, redfox, wild cat, marten, weasel, ferret, genet,grey dormouse, field dormouse etc. TheSierra de la Albera also houses over 200different types of bird species that includebirds of prey such as the golden eagle,Bonelli’s eagle, sparrowhawk, lesser kestrel

Another animal species in serious dangerof extinction is the autochthonous L’Alberacow. One of the main characteristics ofthis relatively small black cow is that itsbehaviour is more similar to the behaviourof wild cows than domestic cows.

This area also has an important historical-monumental patrimony made up of awide variety of archaeological gems. suiza Alinghi, actual “Defender”, y la neozelandesa Emirates Team New Zealand, brillantetriunfadora de la VII Copa Louis Vuitton, conjunto de regatas previas de donde sale elbarco que desafía al pasado campeón y actual poseedor de la Copa.

Históricamente la Copa América arrancó en agosto de 1851 como uno de los actosenmarcados dentro de la Gran Exposición de Londres. Aquella regata, que enfrentó alImperio Británico con los Estados Unidos de América, se saldó con la victoria de estosúltimos pues la goleta “America”, de donde el evento tomó su actual denominación, sacóuna sustanciosa ventaja de ocho millas a sus quince competidores ganando con rotun-didad el premio: un artístico aguamanil de plata valorado en cien guineas de oro. En 1870se disputó la primera Defensa.

Two premises, quality and internationalisation, mark the 53rd edition ofthe Classical Theatre Festival of Mérida (12 July to 26 August). Unlikeother editions, it counts on new monumental and natural venues withinthe capital city of Extremadura, and includes other forms of art andentertainment (18 in all, both classical and contemporary).

t is a real honour to be able to enjoy these performances at impressive venues suchas the Roman amphitheatre (considered world heritage) or the castle. Directors,

actors, dancers, musicians and artists will present their conception of the world ofheroines. In an aim to link women from the classical world and the modern world,the main performers will be women. Drama and the Greek-Latin subject matter stillmark the festival: from the intense passion of Fedra, played by Ana Belén, tothe condemnation of the moral indecency of war examined by Calixto Bieito in “ThePersians” by Esquilo; the story of incestuous love played by Julio Bocca and CeciliaFigaredo in “Goodbye, cruel brother”, with which the Argentinean dancer bids farewellto Mérida’s stage; or the new dance trends that are excellently performed by theNational Dance Company 2 and “Orión 58” by Cesc Gelabert.

Two foreign companies will be performing in Mérida this year: a Nicaraguancompany that will provide an interesting view on emigration in ‘Andromache’ and,from Portugal, the Companhia do Chapitô with ‘O Grande Criador’.

os datos de cierre consolidados del año anterior hablan de 210 millones de euros,340.000 trabajadores protegidos, repartidos entre la totalidad de provincias españolas,

y 38.000 empresas asociadas de los más diversos sectores de actividad. Para el ejercicio2007 Egarsat prevé alcanzar una facturación de 225 millones de euros, 400.000 trabaja-dores protegidos y 40.000 empresas asociadas. El número de trabajadores en plantilla seha mantenido y asciende a 450 personas.

Durante estos últimos cuatro meses, la entidad ha pasado por un proceso de organi-zación interna, tanto a nivel funcional como estratégico, que ha dado como resultadoun total de 60 delegaciones y una amplia red de centros asistenciales distribuidos portodo el territorio español; la inauguración de una delegación propia en León, el trasladoy acomodo de más de 200 empleados en la sede central de Sant Cugat del Vallès, y lareorganización del resto de la plantilla en las delegaciones y centros propios.

En cuanto a sus ejes estratégicos, Egarsat ha definido sus principales líneas deactuación que se concretan en: reforzar su presencia y prestación de servicios a nivelnacional; continuar trabajando orientados a la anticipación y la agilidad de respuesta,profundizar en el Programa de Responsabilidad Social Corporativa y seguir apostandofuerte en innovación.

Esta última línea estratégica prestará gran atención, por un lado, al ámbito de la teleme-dicina y la interconsulta virtual y, por otro, a la investigación y aplicación clínica de terapiascelulares.

Egarsat hace un balance muy positivo de estos primeros meses de actividad, durante loscuales ha trabajado no solamente para consolidar la nueva entidad sino también paradefinir y establecer las bases que marcarán su trayectoria futura.

As far as its company objectives are concerned, Egarsat has decided to reinforce itsservices and national image whilst concentrating further efforts on creating a fasterand more efficient service, developing its “Programa de Responsabilidad SocialCorporativa” (Corporate Social Responsibility Programme) and promoting its importantinnovation activities.

With regard to this last point, Egarsat will be paying greater attention to, on the onehand, telemedicine and online consultations and, on the other, the investigation andclinical application of cellular therapies.

Egarsat considers the results obtained during its first few months a great success. Ithas, during this period of establishment, not only worked to consolidate the new companybut also to define and establish the foundations on which to base its future trajectory.

Asturias incorporates three new tourist festivalsThe Principality of Asturias has recently incorporated three new festivals

on its calendar of festivals of tourist interest. These festivals are, inchronological order, the El Guirria y el Aguinaldo Festival in Ponga. Themythological “Guirria” masked elf comes down from the mountains ofPonga each 1st January, reincarnated in one of the town’s single youngmen, looking for a kiss from the town’s single young women.

The second of these festivals, the Festival de la Sardina (SardineFestival), takes place in Candas on 1st August (St. Felix Day). Here a largenumber of sardine stalls are installed along the Paseo de San Antonio offeringdelicious barbecued sardines accompanied by “culines” (small glasses)of Asturias’ famous cider.

Finally, we would mention the Noche Magica, el Esfoyon y el AmagostoFestival. This festival, commemorating one of the region’s most charmingtraditions, takes place in Navelgas. Inhabitants dress up each Novemberin their best clothes to celebrate the harvest after having participated, asthey have for decades, in the town’s traditional harvesting activities.
