Welcome to The Academy of Modern Music
The Academy of Modern Music is proud to announce its new home at Browning St Studios, West End, in Brisbane, Queensland. Brand new courses have been designed to teach students advanced guitar and bass skills and the theory of music composition and arrangement. Small class sizes and a focus on modern genres including rock, blues and metal make this course an exclusive experience. Classes are less than 12 students in an intimate environment with only two classes on offer this year. Academy of Modern Music courses are unlike any other music programs in Australia - with real industry experience on stage and in the studio, the Academy prides itself in turning our students into professional performers and recording artists.
The Diploma of Music and Certificate IV in Music are stepping stones into the music industry. With a practical focus, students will be composing and transcribing original works as well as rehearsing and performing in a professional environment. Using the most modern fretboard techniques reinforced by music theory, this course encourages students to develop
ndtheir own sound. 2012 Diploma graduates have entered into 2 year of a Bachelor of Music at many different tertiary institutes of their choice
The Programs at AMM are built on Jazz theory in a modern context. Students will have great opportunities to develop networks with both other students and musicians and industry professionals. Group assessment develops the skills on and off the stage to start up bands and produce recording projects to a commercial level.
This is the start of your new career. Let's kick it off with a bang and make some music.
Yours sincerely,
Joel RademakerCourse CoordinatorAcademy of Modern Music

When it comes to recording studios in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast – or even across Australia – none can match what Heliport music studio has to offer the artists of today.
Although Heliport is just an hour’s drive from Brisbane, its location on a mountain in Buderim and picturesque tropical rainforest surroundings make it feel blissfully remote - you’ll feel transported to another world. This, together with its views of the surrounding mountains and the Pacific Ocean, means it’s fair to say that Heliport has the best and most unique location of all recording studios in Australia.
With its state-of-the-art technology, innovative layout, and unique energy, Heliport is designed to ensure you get the most out of your instrument, and can even provide sessions musicians if required.
These factors mean that Heliport Studios has brought a world-class standard to the experience of recording on Australian shores. Local artists now have access to the very best in technology, equipment and professional assistance that a leading recording studio can offer, right here in Australia’s own Brisbane.
Heliport is committed to giving musicians across Australia access to the best music studio and recording services that will suit any budget.

Course requirements
Admission to the Diploma of Sound Production and Certificate IV in Sound Production is by phone interview. Intermediate computer skills are needed as well as access to students’ own equipment. A basic knowledge of Sound Production is recommended as the pace of the course is quick. Negotiation with the Director of Studies for a catch up program can be organised.
We will be using Protools 11 as the main software for this course (Abelton Live 9 for electronic music). Protools and Abelton Live 9 work on both Mac and PC though the industry standard is the Mac. Protools 10 and Abelton Live 9 can be purchased as a discounted student version. In addition there will be various other programs that will be looked at through the course. Most of these have trial versions. Hardware is not fixed though you must have at least a 2 channel interface that works with Protools and a Abelton compatible interface is recommenced for the electronic music course. A condenser mic and SM57 dynamic mic are the stock standard tools for sound production though you will most likely research and invest in more as you progress through the course. James the engineer at Heliport is a wealth of knowledge in this regard and is approachable for advice. Gear is best tailored to your needs.
Student email and Google apps
The communication system used at Academy of Sound Production is gmail and google apps. You will be issued a gmail account for your course and this can be directed to your regular email account. Google calendar will have your class times and assessment dates on it and can be synced to a smart phone with reminders set to the phones alarm. Please use your ASPQ email account to contact teachers and administration.
Timetable and Contacts
The timetable for Sound Production courses varies through the year. As Heliport Studios is a commercial studio we must be flexible to their needs. In general there will be 1 lecture and 1 tutorial each week. Days and times for this will be kept as consistent as possible however it is expected that you are able to attend nights and weekends for some aspects of the courses.

Staff
The Academy of Sound Production has a wide array of teachers and industry professionals that it draws upon. One of the great benefits of running out of a commercial studio as opposed to a teaching facility is that there will always be new influences and faces becoming part of your daily experience and all of these people are in the music industry.
