Welcome to the Academy Of Sound. Established by Aidan Mc-Govern in 2003, the townhouse studio is located in Dublin’s Vil-lage Quarter just five minutes walk from St. Stephen’s Green.

Our courses in Sound Engineering & Music Technology range from Introductory to Higher Diploma Level 4. We focus on practi-cal recording & production techniques. We study recording & mix engineering, midi programming, music production, studio sound, live sound, sound design for film, tv & radio broadcast, record company A&R, music contracts & publishing.

Aidan McGovern, Director, Academy Of Sound, is an award winning engineer. He has worked in studios worldwide with artists such as the Cranberries, Lisa Stansfield, the Irish National Sympho-ny Orchestra, Elmer Bernstein, Eric Clapton, Sinead O’Connor, U2, Elvis Costello and many more. Aidan has worked as an A&R Consultant for major labels BMG and Arista US and has a world-wide music licensing contract with The Orchard New York.

Aidan’s music industry expertise added to the talents of Tanja Thomas (Project Manager, Music Video Director, Final Cut Tutor) & Jeff Timoney (Internal Verifier, Electronic Music Producer, Lecturer) offers students an opportunity to excel.

Our private tuition classes include no more than four students per class. Students are guaranteed hands-on experience at all times.

We hold occasional group lectures and presentations at The Royal Irish Academy of Music, 36-38 Westland Row, Dublin 2 . Our students have the opportunity to record RIAM musicians.

Academy Of Sound students have achieved work placement with various industry professionals including IMRO, Electrical Studio in Chicago owned by Steve Albini (Nirvana) & Oscar Nominees Brown Bag Films.

City&Guilds Extended Higher Diploma in Sound Engineering and Music Technology + City&Guilds Award in Mastering & Editing (7603-33 Extended). HDip students prepare for a professional career in the music and film industry. This course continues from level 3 with much creative work and experimentation and is very similar to industry standard work experience in professional recording and post production studios.. Have your mix mastered by Metropolis as a comparison to your own mastering techniques.
