Types 100M and 101M

With this range it is likely that only variations in bay length

are required since a standard height is always required.However, curved or raked rails are possible, as is the

inclusion of special panels, for example, access gates or

a raised bottom rail may be required where the run passes

over a manhole cover.

Our guardrails are hot dip galvanised mild steel, comply

with BS3049, Class A, and are designed to perform over a

long life-span. The designs can all be adapted to comply

with BS7818, Classes 1,2,3 or 4.

Types 100M and 101M are the strongest, heavy-duty

designs in the range, having square section bars, and arean automatic choice where pedestrian separation from

busy traffic is vital. Type 100M has a sight gap at the top

to make it easier for drivers to see pedestrians. Panels are

fixed by a three way spigot to the standard and enable

replacement panels to be inserted in the event of damage.

Types 103M and 106M offer a more economical solution,

and again, type 106M embodies a sight gap.

Type 104M is a design popular in inner city areas, having

an attractive bollard-style post to complement other street

furniture. It has staggered infill bars as standard, offering

improved driver /pedestrian visibility.

Staggered pattern infill bars can be offered as an option

on types 100M, 101M, 103M and 106M.

Balustradesand wall handrails

Presented are four, basic balustrade systems from which

many variants can be developed.

Types B1 and B2 represent the simplest solutions to

Common Stair guarding requirements as set out in

Sections K and M of the Building Regulations, BS6399-1

and BS6180. The designs are readily adaptable for higher

loadings of 1.50kN/m when required in Institutional

Buildings such as schools and colleges. The balustrades

can either be top fixed into the stair treads or landings,

or they can be side-fixed within the well to maximise

staircase width.

B1 and B2 balustrades are usually supplied or fitted

primed, ready for the final colour to be applied on siteonce a final finish is no longer vulnerable to damage from

other trades. The requirement under Section M that

handrails be slip resistant and not cold to the touch is met

by a thermoplastic handrail capping, which is available in

a wide range of colours, and which provides an efficient

and durable surface.

Type B4 balustrade has the same versatility and strength

as B1 and B2, but has a lighter visual impact thanks to its

toughened glass infill.

The B5 System lends itself generally to more focal

situations, where either an impressive visual feature or a

link with an overall design scheme is required. Type B5

can be constructed in stainless steel or, alternatively, in

polyester powder coated mild steel. Type B5GRL is a level

version, particularly suitable as a parapet or balcony

guardrail. All stainless steel components for B5 are grade304 internally and grade 316 externally, and the default

finish is satin polished, with the option for a bright

polished finish if specified.

Three designs of wall handrail are offered as standard,

each of which is compatible with the balustrades.

Type WRF40 has a semi-oval profile given its plastic

capping and can be specified to complement either B1,

B2 or B4 balustrades.

Type WRT42 provides a round and secure grip. Its surface

can be simply primed for site painting, polyester powder

coated in a standard powder or, to comply with the

requirement that handrails should not be cold to the touch,

a ‘warm-to-touch’ polyester powder or a nylon coating

(in standard colour) may be specified. The tubular rail

can have safety swept, ‘closed’ ends in accordance with

Section M. Type WRT42 is ideally suited to match the

B5 balustrade system in its powder coated version.

To complement the stainless steel B5 system, our typeWRS42 handrail is available.

For external locations, we supply all mild steel

balustrading and handrail variants hot dip galvanized

prior to powder coating or other paint finishes, to ensure

resistance to corrosion.
