Ash Wednesday, February 18 at 7:00 p.m. Our Lenten climb toward Easter begins with Ash Wednesday. We will mark that with the Ash Wednesday Mass, February 18 at 7:00 p.m. (Please note that there will be no morning Mass on Wednesday, February 18th, so that the whole community can start this Lenten journey together.) Receiving the ashes is a sign that we want to be serious about the upcoming season of renewal and conversion. Observing Lent with our parish community We are all invited to enter into the Lenten practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving to help us prepare for Easter. This should be reflected in what we do at home, at work, at school, and in our leisure. It is also good to support one another in these practices in our parish community. So here are a few ideas for you to consider. Prayer: Our Sunday Mass provides the basic orientation for Lent. Why

not try to attend Mass every Sunday throughout Lent? In addition, on Friday evenings at 7:00 p.m. (starting February 20),

we will have the Stations of the Cross in the church. Fasting: During Lent, we could refrain from some food, from a drink, from

a party, from a form of entertainment as a gesture of solidarity with those who have no choice in these matters.

Almsgiving: Almsgiving says that we care for others even to the point of

depriving ourselves of something. All are invited to join in the Development and Peace Share Lent

collection in March.

Stations of the Cross February 20th -- March 27th Each Friday during Lent beginning February 20th at 7:00 p.m. we will be making the Way of the Cross here at St. Mark’s. Please join us as we journey with Christ through His Passion. ‘Priest, Prophet, King – The New Evangelization’ Adult Faith Formation series Parishioners will be pleased to know that Father Robert Barron’s ‘Priest, Prophet, King’ DVD series will resume Tuesday, February 24th 7:00-8:30 p.m. and continue on until Tuesday, March 17th in the basement hall. Please note there will NOT be a session on Shrove Tuesday, February 17th. These interactive sessions include a DVD viewing followed by a short group discussion. Popcorn is provided. All are welcome! For those who want to avail themselves of daily spiritual reflections during Lent, you can sign up for them for FREE at the following link: www.lentreflections.com or check the website: www.wordonfire.org Annual Appeal for Support for The Kisumba Foundation Before all masses next weekend, February 21-22, Don Kavanagh will be launching his annual appeal for support for the Kisumba Foundation for the mentally and physically disabled children near Kimpala, Uganda. There will be collection jars at each entrance for your donations. Don will give a brief talk on the history of this Foundation which he has been supporting for 23 years with the generous help of his family, friends and St. Mark’s Parishioners.

Development and Peace Share Lent Campaign 2015

On Ash Wednesday, DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE will launch its annual Share Lent campaign with the theme “Sow much love … to give.” This annual campaign raises funds to support its mission in more than 30 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. This year, each of DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE’s weekly bulletin announcements features quotations from Pope Francis’ apostolic exhortation, The Joy of the Gospel. In each one, DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE shares the joy of its mission. We hope the Holy Father’s inspiring words will lead you to read the full text, and move you to give generously to the Share Lent campaign. Learn more at devp.org/sharelent.

A Warm Welcome to New Parishioners Welcome to those who want to make their “faith-home” here with us. You may be new to Aylmer, or you may have been ‘away for a while’. You may be ‘checking us out’. Be assured that we love to have you among us! We would appreciate it if you introduced yourself to one of our hospitality ministers, or to the Priest. It would also help if you could take the time to fill out a registration form, which you can get from a

hospitality minister. The next time you are with us, you can drop off the completed registration form in the collection basket; give it to one of the hospitality ministers or to the Priest. We serve refreshments in the church hall after Mass every first and third Sunday of the month – this would be an excellent opportunity to let us know about your presence and interests. That is also a challenge out to regular parishioners to welcome you and make you feel at home. Reminder Church Envelopes for 2015 There are still about 30 envelope boxes remaining in the vestry that have not yet been picked up. We will be removing them soon. Note the vestry is the small room off to the left of the entry. If you do not find your box, please contact the Parish office. Military Whist Card Party The card party will take place on Friday, February 27th at 7:00 p.m. Cost is $5 per person and everyone is invited to bring finger food to share. For more information, contact Diane Burns at 819 684-0527. Upcoming Meetings and Events
