In this space the artists are not somuch interpreting narrative, butrather, tracing trajectories tomake perceptible what they cando. Here in this spacio-temporalevent, lines of narrative mayemerge from undertones createdwhen the artists map orcartograph their nomadicpassages. This is done usingdance, sound, vision andmovement without biases offormal language.

MAP Festival began in 2008 inMalaysia as the Melaka Arts andPerformance Festival. Over thelast decade, the model of site-

MAP Moreland will inhabit themain two-story ‘house’ atSiteworks. Artists perform andinstall their work within thelabyrinth of rooms like nookswithin 'a house-body', Arachne’sTwine relates to the creation of anetwork as in the weaving of aweb. Every artist’s work willrepresent a kind of thread in aspider’s web that exists in a ‘nook’or a room.

specific performances have co-inspired sister festivals with ArtsIsland Festival & Pelem ArtsFestival (Indonesia), BandungInternational Arts Festival(Indonesia), MAP Delhi (India),MAP Rainbow (Regional Victoria,Australia), Buffalo Fields Festival(Bangkok, Thailand), andMelbourne’s own MappingMelbourne. All these festivalsbegan with site-specificity andhave created platforms forindependent artists fromdifferent disciplines, cultures andlevels of accomplishments topresent works in individual,collaborative and alwaysexperimental creative practice.

Kathleen GonzalezKathleen Gonzalez is a Melbourne basedColombian experimental artist, ethnodancewriter, dance maker and performer, culturalproducer, artistic director of Tunjos y CantarosEthnologic Dance Company. Kathleen's practicecombines multicultural, multispiritual and globalancestral origins, investigated through dancelaboratories and ritualistic experiencesconnecting the inner and outer self. Kathleen’swork explores the space between the rationalityof the physical senses and the mystery of psychicand mythical lands, combining unusual,experimental, creative and inspirational newperformance processes. Kiki Ando& Ayako FujiiKiki Ando and Ayako Fujii are Japaneseperformers currently based in Melbourne.Kiki’s practice is influenced by traditionaland contemporary Japanese forms ofdance and is currently exploring Javanese“secrete spirit” movement dance. Ayako Fujii is a multi instrumentalist,composer andarranger from Osaka since 1995.She has been performing traditionalJapanese instruments like Shinobue Flute,Taiko Drums and Sanshin Banjo in severalgroups including A.YA. Cobie Orger, LouiseLavarack, Andre Solano& John Kostaras Cobie Orger, Louise Lavarack, AndreSolano and John Kostaras have worked invarious configurations over the yearsexploring music, dance, performance,sculpture, and installation. They areinterested in the dialogue that occurswithin artistic collaboration and theconsequent trajectories, methodologiesand forms that emerge.

An invisiblethread– Installation/visual art (durational)

Through sound and sculptural elements,An Invisible Thread interlaces an ordinaryarchitectural space with traces andinstances, images and memories. Twoperformers adjust, disturb and configurean array of coloured wooden battens.Ephemeral structures grow and reduce inresponse to the shifting lush soundscapesspun by two musicians. Morphing formscoil through the space, moving awayfrom and towards the force of sound thatbinds them.

Domenico de ClarioDomenico is an interdisciplinary artist, academic,writer and musician. He was born in Trieste, Italy.He studied architecture and town planning atMelbourne University, painting at Milan’sAccademia di Belle Arti di Brera and lithography atthe Accademia di Belle Arti di Urbino. In 1998 hewas awarded an MA and in 2001 a PhD inperformance studies from Melbourne’s VictoriaUniversity. Since 1966 Domenico has presentedmore than 300 solo and group exhibitions,installations and performances and has published anumber of books and CDs. His work is representedin major public and private collections both inAustralia and worldwide.

Anna White& Yvette GrantBIOGRAPHY - artist/sYvette Grant is a teacher, writer, creatorand performer, and a lifelong dancer. Shehas a background in Classical Ballet andpursued her passion for dancing Tango inBuenos Aires for four years. She recentlystudied Art and Community Engagementat The University of Melbourne, and hercurrent explorations are in improvisedperformance.

Anna White works across the mediums ofperformance, photography and painting.She has practiced as an abstract painter fordecades, working intuitively with chanceand improvisation. Participation in a Butohworkshop in 2016 provided the catalyst toexplore these themes using the body andmovement and rekindled a long-heldpassion for dance.

Gretel Taylor Gretel Taylor has evolved a site-responsiveperformance practice exploringrelationships between place, body andidentity. Historical, ecological, cultural andsocial contexts inform her work, whichdraws upon dance improvisation, live artand Body Weather. In addition to her solopractice, Gretel is a core artist ofEnvironmental Performance Authority(EPA).Gretel completed a practice-based PhD in2009 and has taught Performance atVictoria University, RMIT and Monash. In2018 she curated performative exhibitionForce of Nature at Yarra Ranges RegionalMuseum. She is currently co-directingDancing Between Two Worlds with ShaunMcLeod and Indian Australian artists inMelbourne's west.

Helen Suzanne Smith& Fiona HillHelen is a physical theatre performer,teacher and director whose maininfluences have been Butoh, an avant-garde genre of dance theatre from Japan;Suzuki actor training, also from Japan;Viewpoints originating from the US, andmore recently, Kathakali, an ancienttraditional form of Indian dance theatre.Helen was first introduced to the world ofPhysical Theatre, through Brisbane-basedcompany, Zen Zen Zo with whom she hastrained, performed nationally andinternationally since 1993. Helen relocatedto Melbourne in 2010 to pursue a Mastersin Theatre Research at Monash University. She is most at home when she is exploringinnovative combinations of her practice.

Imago– Dance (20 mins)A good friend, with keen insight,fortuitously invited me to an experimentalmusic gig at Testing Ground at theweekend, where I met and heard thishaunting and captivating compositioncreated by Fiona Hill. Dianne DixonDianne is an Australian artist living in therural town of Rainbow in northwestvictoria.Dianne’s creative oeuvre is distinctivelyrural Australian and significant in itscontribution to a diverse and sophisticatedart practice in contemporary Victoria. Lim Paik YinLim Paik Yin is an interdisciplinary artistworking with photography andperformance. She started choreographingand performing site specific works inMalaysia and Indonesia from 2014 onwards.Currently she is pursing her Masters in Visualand Media Anthropology after 5 yearsworking as a photo researcher in a stockphotography company. Herphotography work has since evolved toincluding her practice in performance. “By using the presence of oneself andtransforming everyday space throughperformance, I can view the self as aseparate entity and thus intervene in myeveryday routine creating a temporalopportunity to express what is unspoken orhidden.”

Christos LinouLinou is a cross-disciplinary artist with threedecades of work in dance, theatre, opera,film and TV. He was awarded a Masters inFine Arts scholarship at MelbourneUniversity, researching durationalperformance. He developed ‘Naked Peel’ a12 hour performance installation andpresented his research at the World DanceAlliance in Singapore and performed it inMelbourne, Amsterdam and Melaka. TheMarina Abramovic Institute in New Yorkrecognised his work as 'Highly original anddeeply personal' and published it on‘IMMATERIAL’ a digital journal fordurational works and screened it at the AsOne Festival in Athens. He has toured oneman shows in Singapore, Paris, Amsterdamand Australia.

Object Obedience– Multi-medium (Durational)This durational performance explores howmotion is activated from the position of thebody being an object of obedience. Itinvestigates how the performer subjectsthemselves through embodimentexperimentation on actions of chance andcausality. A table, panels, boxes and boards,fall and shift in order to subject the body tomove within these parameters over a longperiod of time. The sculptural constructionof objects choreographs the aestheticcomposition of the work, which changesover time

Notestrange to movement, from a very youngage, continue to embrace the multiculturaland fusional music and art style from herhomeland but also the worldwide forms andexpressions. Social activist by day andBurlesque performer by night. For the pastthree years she has been studying andenjoying different forms and style of danceand movement on this wide spectrum appear,Bharatanatyam, Butoh, experimental dancemovement, Poi, Martial arts, and much more.She does not shy away from experiencingother ritualistic dance movement while shestudies dance movement therapy.

It aimsto raise awareness to the bliss that it is toexpress one's truth; all inclusive andspreading out smalls acts of unconditionalloving in every aspect of experiencing andsynchronising our journeys. Leisa ProwdLeisa Prowd is a dancer, performance artist& life model based in Melbourne. Herpractice involves explorations from butoh,physical theatre, yoga & burlesque. Leisa performs with two dance theatreensembles - Weave Movement Theatreand Rawcus Theatre Company and hasappeared in several productions with bothcompanies. She has performed inMelbourne, Adelaide and internationally atFestivals in Las Vegas and Berlin.

FGFR3– Dance (15 mins)Rather than being deficient in a protein thataids growth, I received too much. It hasbeen likened to a plant being overwatered.Too much of a good thing is not a goodthing. My performance explores the idea ofreceiving too much of a good thing; beingoverwatered. I exist in this body. I celebratein this body. I mourn in this body - this bodythat received too much of a good thing.

Nick Davitashvil & Chen YiNick Davitashvili is a cybersecurity geek,environmentalist and musician from Tbilisi,Georgia. He dropped out of music school whenhe was 7, but circled back by playing guitar andbass in ska and punk bands against the backdropof crumbling Soviet regime. After encounteringIndian classical music he was inspired to embarkon an overland pilgrimage from Georgia toVaranasi in India to study tabla with Pt. DhananjayMishra and later sitar at Shahid Parvez Khanacademy of music in Phoenix, Arizona. Recently,he performed ethnically infused non-idiomaticelectro-acoustic music with Reso Kiknadze andrecorded an album with his band Z for Zuluproduced by Dimitri Tikovoi of 140dB (UK).

Yi Chen, originally from Nanning, China, beganher dance journey at Subbody Butoh School andwas influenced by the Javanese traditional andcontemporary dance styles. She also got inspiredby the perspective of multiple indigenous culturesshe has encountered during her travels. She isexperimenting with dance in site-specific contextslike forests, rivers, construction sites, recyclingfacilities and urban settings to discover theessence of native cultures and landscapes. Yibelieves that the dance stage is any place wherethe spirit exists.

She grew up in thefamily cabaret in Nobeoka (Miyazaki), Japan.After her arriving in Melbourne in 1994, begantraining at Women’s Circus to express herselfusing her physical body as English was new toher.
