AlJammaz... HP...day event, Asim S. AlJammaz, VP of AlJammaz Distribution, shed light on the business challenges, directions, market fluctuations. “The objective of this event was to bring together CEOs, directors and decision makers to share ideas and discuss issues they face together in the Saudi IT Industry, think about market transformation and how they can stand together, integrate their resources and complement each other as much as possible to provide a much healthier market to compete,” he said.

The top International vendors such as Cisco, EMC, APC, Panduit, VCE, Fluke Networks, Ruckus Wireless, Rittal, Honeywell and Linksys have taken part of this gathering to give

their views on market directions, new trends and expected transformations.

“The Information Technology Industry is changing fast, faster than what we think,” said AlJammaz. “We can stay in business only if we are capable of proactively predict where the business is moving and how fast it is moving. Having our top technology vendor partners with us in this top IT resellers gathering event, added a lot of value toward the discussions between the executives during the event.”

The event also served as a platform where top vendors and IT executives exchanged thought-leadership and key trends in the market.

customers, understand their business needs and transform their legacy infrastructure into a hybrid system by connecting it to cloud, so you have the ability to dynamically shift between private and pubic cloud environments on a need basis. HP Helion is the centerpiece of this transformation agenda.

Security is top of mind for all organisations, regardless of their size, but statistics show that 80 percent of the security budget is spent on protecting the enterprise from outside threats, while majority of threats stem from applications or from within. If you want to protect your environment, you have to look at four key elements, starting with users, infrastructure, applications and data. We have the processes and tools to protect your

environment and integrate it in a holistic manner.

The third piece of your strategy is empowering the data-driven organisations. Data volumes are exploding and gleaning that information you need to make business decision out of that ever-increasing hay is akin to looking for a needle. Our approach is to filter data – be it human or machine generated – and use analytics to extract the information you need for your business. HP Hevin is our platform to do this, which is built on Hadoop and on top of that we have many analytics tools such as Autonomy and Vertica.

The fourth pillar is enabling our customers with the right tools so their employees can do their jobs in new and better ways. This means application mobility and giving employees access to enterprise information on any device, empowering them autonomy and flexibility.

Dubai’s roads infrastructure and public transport authority to leverage the speed, agility and high availability provided by VCE Vblock System

VCE, the pioneer and worldwide leader in converged infrastructure, announced that Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has selected a VCE Vblock System for its Automated Collection System (ACS), a contactless smart card scheme for customers using public transport facilities. The cards function as an electronic wallet and customers using public transport services including taxis and parking facilities can pay for their services through a preloaded card.

The VCE Vblock System will

form the foundation of RTA’s IT Infrastructure supporting ACS. It will provide a wide range of IT applications including web application, databases and test and development workloads for RTA’s five business segments: clearing and settlement, systems management, scheme operations, and card services and business development.

Struggling with an IT system that is over 9 nine years old, RTA needs a highly available infrastructure for mission critical applications, an IT environment that enables mixed workloads, and most importantly integrates compute, storage and network technologies. Another key requirement is a futureproof solution that enables RTA to retain and maximise its

investments, and increase user productivity, scalability and availability while reducing operational complexities and costs.

RTA selected VCE after a thorough evaluation process which found that its solution was the industry’s only true converged infrastructure that could dramatically reduce the cost of its IT initiatives while improving time to market for its applications. The Vblock System integrates state-of-the-art compute, network and storage technologies from Cisco and EMC, as well as virtualization software from VMware. This combination of best of breed components together in a factory-integrated, pre-engineered, pre-configured, and validated platform is a major factor in RTA’s selection of VCE.

In addition, VCE’s industry-leading lifecycle management approach will free RTA from the complexity of managing patches and updates from multiple vendors with 96 percent less downtime. The entire infrastructure will be managed by VCE Vision™ Intelligent Management Software, a systems management tool which provides a consistent, accurate, and common systems view. VCE’s single call support facility will help RTA maintain the

“Dubai is one of the fastest growing cities in the world and therefore the provision of high quality transport facilities is absolutely crucial,” said Khaled Al Awadhi, Director of RTA’s Automatic Collection Systems. “The ability to be agile and quickly meet the changing demands of our customers drove our partnership with VCE. During the evaluation, VCE won our trust and we are confident that VCE will deliver a robust, scalable, agile, flexible solution that will address our growing IT needs. ”

“We’re very pleased to be working with the RTA to help transform its data centre to deliver critical business outcomes for its ACS project,” stated Said Akar, regional director for Turkey, Eastern Europe, Africa, and Middle East at VCE. “As the leader in converged infrastructure, we work closely with businesses to offer solutions that integrate with existing IT environments and we strive to ensure that this transition to agile infrastructure is as painless as possible by implementing solutions that are custom designed to deliver their technology needs.”

As part of its objectives of obtaining optimistic results at GITEX Technology Week the Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority (DAFZA) has revealed the number of ICT and electronics companies working within its complex.

According to the free zone authority the number grew by 17

percent during the third quarter of this year. The latest statistics also revealed that 34 percent of the ICT and electronics companies based in the freezone are multinational companies.

DAFZA also highlights that its portfolio of smart services and applications that were launched at GITEX including the ‘SMART Investor,’ ‘SMART Employee,’ and ‘SMART Operations’ among others are being commended by decision-makers and high officials from government as well as major ICT companies for acting as the backbone in the provision of an integrated environment which meets the needs of employees, clients, visitors and investors.

Buthaina Bin Fahad, Senior Director of Information and

Communication Technology Department, DAFZA, said, “The growth in the number of ICT and Electronics companies working in DAFZA complements our achievements towards our ‘smart’ transformation. We envision the freezone becoming a ‘Smart City’ model capable of providing advanced solutions and high-level services for 21st-Century needs. The growth of our technology base is primarily attributed to key improvements we have been making since the last year, particularly the setting up of a wireless network service which has made DAFZA one of the first free zones in the region to provide free Wi-Fi to clients and employees.”

“We are glad with the high demand for our platform during

the 35th GITEX Technology Week. Based on the positive reaction to our portfolio of smart services, we are confident that we will be able to attract more leading regional and international ICT and Electronics companies. We are committed to helping them benefit from DAFZA’s competitive environment, creative services, and highly developed infrastructure. We pledge to continue working intensively towards the adoption of the latest smart technologies to achieve total customer satisfaction in line with Dubai Government strategic plan and supporting the initiative of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai a Smart City.” concluded Bin Fahad.

Teradata, the Big Data analytics and marketing applications company, today announced two new breakthrough software capabilities that empower business users to uncover and operationalise the insights hidden within Internet of Things (IoT) data. The new Teradata Listener and Teradata Aster Analytics on Hadoop make it possible to intelligently listen in real-time and then use analytics to see the distinctive patterns in massive streams of IoT data.

The world is full of connected devices generating a massive and constant stream of data. In recent years, advances have been made with instrumentation of devices and their pervasive connectivity. However, the focus has not been on ingesting and maximising value from the data

with machine learning algorithms. Even the most technology-savvy organisations recognise that extracting value from data generated by the IoT is a difficult, skills-intensive process. Even more difficult is integrating the IoT data with business operations and human behavioral data.

To respond to the challenges, Teradata’s latest innovative IoT software capabilities eliminate complexity and latency, while providing organisations with entirely new capabilities to leverage data.

“Customers can now take full advantage of IoT data generated from nearly an unlimited number and type of devices. In addition, Teradata enables customers to combine IoT data with business operations and human behavioral data to maximise analytic value,” said Hermann Wimmer, co-president, Teradata. “Teradata Listener and Aster Analytics on Hadoop are breakthrough IoT technologies that push the analytic edge, making the ‘Analytics of Everything’ possible.”

“Daily, we collect millions of sensor observations from our equipment, and from our Engineers we receive thousands of written reports that are digitised. We subject the data to a variety of analytics to discover

hidden patterns in order to ensure optimal equipment performance. Our partnership with Teradata has helped us predict the leading indicators for train equipment breakdown,” said Gerhard Kress, director, Analytical Services, Siemens Mobility Division. “The collection and analysis of senor and IOT data has been integral to driving the efficiency of the rail business.”

Teradata Listener is intelligent, self-service software for ingesting and distributing fast-moving data streams--either individual or multiple streams--at one time. It allows customers to push data to Hadoop, Teradata Aster Analytics, Teradata Database, and other

platforms. Without needing to rely on IT for help, users can analyse data from numerous sources including sensors, telematics, mobile events, click streams, social media feeds, and IT server logs.

Unique in the industry, the enhanced Aster Analytics on Hadoop is an integrated analytics solution from Teradata now featuring a set of more than 100 business-ready, distinctly different analytics techniques and seven vertical industry applications to run directly on Hadoop®. This allows organisations to seamlessly address business problems with an integrated analytics solution.

Released on Monday, October 19, the Teradata Integrated Big Data Platform 1800 is the ideal platform to support the new IoT capabilities. It enables customers to perform complex analytics at scale and is available at a cost-effective price of approximately $1,000 per terabyte of compressed data.

Teradata Listener is now available in beta, and will be generally available globally in the first quarter of 2016. Teradata Aster Analytics on Hadoop will be shipped globally in the second quarter of 2016. The Teradata Integrated Big Data Platform 1800 is now available globally.
