Nordson Corporation

founders created the

Nordson Foundation around

the time of the company’s

establishment based on

the belief that business, as

a corporate citizen, has a

social responsibility to

share its success with the

communities in which it

operates and its employees

live. In 1988, the original

Nordson Foundation was

split into the Nord Family

Foundation and the Nordson

Corporation Foundation.

Today, the philanthropic

spirit of our company

founders lives on in Nordson

Corporation’s commitment

to contribute five percent of

domestic, pretax earnings to

the communities where we

have major operations.

Nordson Corporation Foundation focuses its giving on

education. We believe that for individuals to become

thriving members of society, they must be exposed to a

variety of educational experiences – from early childhood

through adulthood. Therefore, we provide funding to

support educational experiences for people of all ages

with the belief that:

• All individuals deserve access to quality educational

experiences

• Every person deserves a chance to become a self-

sufficient member of society

• A continuum of quality educational opportunities

is needed

While education is our main focus, the Nordson

Corporation Foundation also provides grants to support

arts and culture, civic and human welfare organizations

as a way to further strengthen our communities.

Foundation Grants

Community Affairs

Committees (CACs)

consisting of employees

from different departments

at Nordson Corporation

businesses review grant

requests and recommend

support to nonprofits within

their respective regions.

CACs operate at Nordson

Corporation facilities in

Ohio, Georgia, California

and Rhode Island. Their

recommendations are then

sent to the Foundation’s

board of directors for final

approval. In 2006, the

Foundation awarded

$1,074,165 in grants.

Corporate Gifts

In addition to grants,

Nordson Corporation makes

direct contributions to

community organizations

through event sponsorships

and one-time projects. In

2006, we distributed

$192,658 in corporate gifts.

Employee Matching Gifts

Nordson Corporation

supports our employees’

philanthropic giving through

a program that matches

dollar-for-dollar employee

and retiree contributions to

nonprofits and educational

institutions, up to $6,000

per individual per year. In

2006, Nordson employees

and retirees donated

$351,056 to causes they

care about. With Nordson

Corporation’s match of

those dollars, an additional

$318,916 went to help

our communities.

Employee Volunteerism

Nordson’s employee

volunteer program, Time

‘n Talent, was started in

1993 and has been going

strong ever since. Nearly

every weekend, Nordson

employees can be found

out in their communities

walking to raise money for

a cause, bringing smiles

to children in hospitals,

packing boxes at a food

bank and more. In 2006,

employees spent more

than 6,000 hours helping

nonprofit organizations

by volunteering their time

and talent.

United Way

Yearly campaigns to benefit

the United Way have been

a long-standing tradition at

Nordson facilities. In 2006,

employees in Ohio, Georgia,

California and Rhode Island

gave a combined $233,572

to the United Way. Nordson

Corporation’s dollar-for-

dollar match of employee

contributions meant more

than $467,000 went to

support United Way

agencies.

Technical Assistance

Taskforce

Nonprofit organizations

benefit from more than

just Nordson Corporation

Foundation grants. They

also receive technical

support from our employees,

who lend their expertise

on tasks such as balancing

financial statements and

installing computer systems.

The Nordson Corporation

Foundation’s giving is

concentrated in areas where

the company has major

U.S. operations.

Everybody Wins! Atlanta

Helping kids become better

readers was the focus of

a $5,000 grant to

Everybody Wins! Atlanta,

an organization dedicated to

improving literacy rates of

elementary school children

in the Atlanta, Georgia,

metropolitan area. The

group’s Power Lunch reading

and mentoring program

pairs a working professional

with a student for lunch-

time reading. When children

are read to on a consistent

basis, they become better

readers themselves and

develop better concentration

and listening skills.

“It is encouraging to see studentsin the Power Lunch program develop and improve their reading skills, forge mentoringrelationships with caring adultsand improve their scores on testsneeded to advance to the nextgrade. We are grateful for theinvestment that Nordson is makingin our community’s youth.”

– Terri Beck, Executive Director, Everybody Wins! Atlanta

College Visions

For first-generation college

bound youth, applying for

college can be a confusing

and overwhelming endeavor.

College Visions is a year-

long program that guides

low-income high school

students in East Providence,

Rhode Island, through the

college admissions process.

College Visions’ services

include research on post-

secondary institutions,

financial aid workshops,

application and essay

writing assistance and

more. A $3,000 grant from

Nordson Corporation

Foundation allowed College

Visions to increase the

number of students in its

program from 20 to 40.

University Circle

Incorporated

Research on child

development and learning

has shown that very young

children retain abstract

concepts better when they

are taught in an object-

based, multi-sensory

manner. University Circle

Incorporated’s community

education department

used this knowledge to

create the Early Learning

Initiative, which integrates

programming at the cultural

and scientific museums

located in Cleveland

Ohio’s University Circle

neighborhood into

the preschool teaching

curriculum. A $31,320

grant from Nordson

Corporation Foundation

enabled all Lorain City

preschools to participate in

the eight-month program.

“The grant from NordsonCorporation Foundation is makingit possible for kids in Lorain County to explore the wonderfulorganizations in University Circleand take part in activities thatenrich the learning process.”

– Diana L. Robbins, Director of Community Education, University Circle Incorporated

The Children’s Initiative

The Children’s Initiative

exists to improve the well

being of youth in San Diego

County, California. The

group’s Science Link

program prepares students

for higher learning by pro-

viding science, math and

technology workshops and

field trips to students in

after-school programs. A

$3,750 grant from Nordson

Corporation Foundation

helped purchase equipment

and supplies and pay for

field trips.

Elyria City Schools

The Foundation provided

a $70,000 grant to the city

schools in Elyria, Ohio, in

order to expand kindergarten

classes from a half day

to a full day in all of the

district’s 13 elementary

schools. Nordson Corporation

Foundation’s grant purchased

the support materials

needed for two of the

schools, which serve 140

students in six classrooms.

Atlanta Ballet

A $5,000 grant to the

Atlanta Ballet supported

its dance education at

Parklane Elementary School

in East Point, Georgia.

Dancers from the company,

which is the nation’s oldest

continuously operating ballet

company, conduct a weekly

mandatory dance lesson

for the school’s 450 plus

students. The program has

had a positive impact on

student behavior, with

the number of disruptive

incidents dropping from

nearly 1,000 a year

to less than 200.

Towards Employment

Helping low-income

individuals successfully

enter the workforce and

become self sufficient has

been the mission of Towards

Employment since it began

in 1976. Through training,

placement and ongoing

support services, the agency

has helped 100,000

residents in Cuyahoga

County, Ohio, become and

stay employed. In 2006,

Nordson Corporation

Foundation awarded

Towards Employment a

$20,000, two-year grant for

its Achieve program, which

works with employers to

increase their employee

retention rates and improve

skills so that employees

can advance in their jobs.

“Because of the NordsonCorporation Foundation, we havebeen able to increase the numberof schools we serve as well as trainnew teachers and supply them with teaching materials and instruments. It’s exciting to see aneed in the community and beable to make a difference whiledoing something we love!”

– Mary Beth Frasier, Executive Director, Music Time Learning Center

EInterfaith Community

Services

A $3,750 grant to Interfaith

Community Services in

North San Diego, California,

supported a program that

provides transitional housing

for homeless families. In

addition to a safe place

to live, the program also

assists clients in finding jobs

and teaches them life skills.

Monarch School was

founded in San Diego

County, California, in 1988

to improve the lives of

homeless youth through

education. In addition to

serving as an educational

institution, Monarch pro-

vides its students, who

range in age from eight to

18, with food, clothing,

health and dental care

and counseling. A $3,750

Nordson Corporation

Foundation grant for general

operating support helped

cover educational expenses

for Monarch School’s more

than 150 students.
