See more information in this newsletter. February also means the beginning of the AARP tax preparations (every Monday until mid-April) right here in the Park. This is a wonderful service and it is free and they do great job. Thanks, Don LaMaster for your hard work as well as all the AARP volunteers. See more info in this newsletter. January was a busy month with all the regular events, wonderful dance, dinner, health fair (bet you stocked up on free pens!) Men's Club picnic and Just Us Girls events. We also had a wonderful Brunch thanks to Polly and Crew. There certainly is plenty to do if you so desire. Again, thank you to all our volunteers who make these activities possible. We have completed the photos for our third addition to the Photo Directory and now we just wait for them to be sent back for me to proof and they will go to print and back for distribution. I am hopeful that we will have them back here before resident’s head North. We are so pleased that new residents are having their photos taken as well as some residents that have been here for some time who did not have them taken earlier. Notice I did not say old residents? We had our installation of officers at our HOA January Meeting and look forward to an- other great year. You will notice that there will be a police presence here in the Park and they will be writing tickets for both vehicles and bikers that are not following the speed limit and other rules of the highway. HOLIDAY PARK HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION-2019

Don LaMaster holding Seat 2 and Betty Hart holding seat 4 are unopposed and will retain their seats for an additional 2 years. We welcome Mr. Nasalski, who will take his seat on March 14, along with the winner of the Seat 8 contest. We are most pleased to have Mr. LaMaster and Mrs. Hart back with us for another term. We sincerely thank Bill Mitchell for his service to Holiday Park. He has declined to run for health reasons. We wish him well in his recovery and may be as-sured we will see him making valued contributions to our meetings for the foreseeable future. All five candidates, in-cluding those unopposed, are invited to address residents prior to the February 14th Board of Trustee meeting. We will set aside time at 7 pm, prior to the meeting for candidates to make statements and take questions if they wish. Resumes and photos of candidates are posted on the Trustee bulletin board in the lobby of the administration building.

While the election will take place on March 12th, early voting will take place at the Elections Office in the Biscayne shopping center, and by mail. Eligible voters are those reg-istered to vote at their Holiday Park address. Contact the Su-pervisor of Elections for a mail-in ballot should you wish.

the state and the new updated Holiday Park Deed Restrictions would be made available to each homeowner.

As you can see, this is a long process and the Holiday Park Trustees appreciate our homeowners' participation in this pro-cess. HP Education Submitted by Karin Anderson, Trustee

The Trustees have had requests from homeowners for infor-mation on the Holiday Park, Park and Recreation District Trust-ees and Trustee meetings. Below is a one-page brief summary to assist our homeowners. We hope this information encour-ages our homeowners to attend and participate in our Trustee meetings. If you have any questions please contact the Park Manager or one of the Trustees. Thank you. Karin Anderson 1st Vice Chairperson

GENERAL INFORMATION ON HOLIDAY PARK TRUSTEES & MEETINGSHoliday Park, Park and Recreation District has a board of 9

Trustees who oversee the operation of Holiday Park. They each serve a two-year term. One year there are 4 Trustees up for re-election and the next year there are 5 Trustees up for reelec-tion. As a Special District, our election is held through Sarasota County and Trustees are duly elected by qualified voters of the district. If an existing Trustee has no one running against them, and they wish to remain in office, they are seated without an election. Holiday Park homeowners who are Florida residents, and meet the county qualifications, are eligible to run for a Trustee position. They must choose and specify with Sarasota County the seat to which they wish to be elected.

The Trustees need to be knowledgeable on House Bill 1855, the Deed Restrictions, the Sunshine Law, the general park rules and regulations and legal liabilities that apply to them, etc. Holiday Park, Park and Recreation District has Trustee By-laws, etc., which define the duties of the Trustees. A Park Manager is hired by the Board of Trustees to conduct the day-to-day op-erations of the Park. The Park Manager reports to the Board of Trustees.

The Holiday Park homeowners and residents are encour-aged to attend Trustee meetings. There are two Trustee meet-ings each month (mainly during the season). Workshops, which occur the third Tuesday of the month at 9 am, is where topics are discussed, and options explored. The second meet-ing is called a regular meeting and occurs the second Thursday of the month at 7pm and is where formal votes are taken. The meeting dates are published yearly and like agenda items, they are posted on the HP web site (holidayparknp.com). Meetings are posted in the newsletter calendar and on the electronic sign, and a listing may be picked up at the Holiday Park Office. If a special meeting needs to be held, it will be publicized for our residents’ knowledge and must meet the meeting notice requirements.

Because of the Florida Sunshine Law, the Trustees may only discuss agenda items and park issues with other Trustees at open meetings. Therefore, the agenda items for the Workshop are discussed by the Trustees for the first time at the open Work-shop meetings. At the Workshop and the Regular meetings, the Trustees appreciate resident comments on each agenda item before the Trustees discuss the agenda items. Homeown-er and resident comments are limited to 3 minutes and, by rule, may not be disrespectful or disparaging. The Trustees discuss the agenda item and then open it up for additional comments by residents. The Trustees appreciate receiving resident com-ments on each agenda item after they (Trustees) have finished discussing the item. Trustees do not vote on the agenda items at the Workshop but can table the agenda item, or forward the agenda item to the next regular meeting where they will vote

This is the last scrap paper dumpster you will see in Phase 2. When this is filled, we will not replace it. The Park reaped a few hundred dollars of revenue per year from scrap paper, but the market for paper has dried-up, so the recycling com-pany now charges us fifty bucks for each bin. We have can-celled the contract with them, so no more after the end of February when this is filled. Alternatively, you may request a scrap paper bin from the City of North Port. Call the city’s solid waste department, which will bring you a paper recycle bin. It is picked up every 2 weeks, alternating with plastic and glass bins. Some residents turned down the paper bins when they were offered a few years ago since we had our own Park bin. No more, so get those City bins.

Speeding has been a perineal problem. Not only is it out-side contractors and delivery vans, but many residents totally ignore the 15-mph speed limit. Things may soon change. The North Port Police have instituted a traffic enforcement division, and they will give special attention to Holiday Park, ticketing those who exceed the speed limit. Visits will be un-announced. Police will ticket visitors and residents alike, so maybe the likelihood of facing a several hundred-dollar tick-et for exceeding the speed limit may slow down those who have been putting our residents at risk by their reckless driv-ing. Slow down! And notice that there’s a solid yellow line running down the center of Palena and Holiday Park Blvd. That means you can’t pass. Don’t do it.

As always, you can find me at the deep end of the pool. Dick Gortz, Chairman Board of Trustees

HOLIDAY PARK DEED RESTRICTIONS Each homeowner should have a copy of the Holiday Park

Deed Restrictions. The last version was approved by a major-ity of the homeowners and submitted in July 2016. As you know, all homeowners must comply with the Holiday Park Deed Restrictions.

We are in the process of possibly making some minor changes to the deed restrictions. Example, the gas company will no longer provide gas through the underground lines since leaks have developed and it could be dangerous for our residents. Individuals with gas appliances now must use above ground tanks. If you would like to recommend adding or deleting certain deed restrictions, please feel free to send your recommendations to Karin Anderson, Trustee over Rules and Regulations. Your recommendations must be in writing and include your name and phone number. If your recom-mendation does not contain this information, it will not be considered. This information allows Karin to contact you to discuss your recommendation(s) and to fully understand your concerns and your recommendation. You can turn them into the Holiday Park office and they will be placed in Karin’s trustee box, or you can give it to Karin directly. We will be tak-ing recommendations through March 2019. Please be aware these are just recommendations. The Trustees will review the list of recommendations at a workshop meeting. The Trust-ees would then decide what changes, if any, should be con-sidered. The Trustees would then vote on these at a regular Trustee meeting. If the Trustees decide changes should be considered, they will compile a listing of recommendations for the homeowners to vote on in 2020. The process for vot-ing would be made available to all homeowners if recom-mended deed restrictions are to be submitted in 2020.

The costs of doing this process must be part of our bud-get process. It takes over 50% of our homeowners to approve each change that would be made to the Holiday Park Deed Restrictions. If changes are approved by the homeowners, the new Holiday Park Deed Restrictions would be filed with

on that item. At the end of the meeting it is open for Trustees to make additional comments and then to residents who can make comments on any park issues/items they want to at that time. We look forward to seeing our homeowners and resi-dents at these meetings.

MEN’S CLUB VALENTINE BREAKFASTBecause of issues encountered at last year’s Valentine

breakfast, the Men’s Club is trying something different this year. February (2019), we are having the breakfast in our park in the PH 1 main hall where it will be prepared by our own Polly and her crew. The date will be on Wednesday, February 13th. In order to assure everyone’s meal is hot, Polly would like to have TWO separates seatings with a maximum of up to 120 people per seating to assure each member has a nice hot breakfast for themselves and their guest. The food will be served by servers up at the front of the hall as usual (not a buffet).

The first seating will begin at 8:15 am and your tickets will be colored RED. If you prefer to eat later at 9:15 am you will purchase the WHITE tickets. The hall will be set up with up to 120 seats on each side of the center aisle. All Red ticket hold-ers (8:15 seating) will sit on the LEFT side of the center aisle. All WHITE ticket holders will sit on the RIGHT side of the center aisle. When the earlier seating folks are finished, they are free to linger over coffee and socialize as long as they want. PLEASE do not arrive more than 15 minutes ahead of your chosen serv-ing time.

Tickets will be sold at the January 10th Men’s Club Regu-lar meeting (see Ken Judd) before the start of the meeting at 10 am. The cost is $10 per ticket. Widows of former Men’s Club members may purchase a ticket also on those dates. Last day for ticket sales will be January 29th as stated above.

There will be NO EXCEPTIONS!! Valentine Gifts will be dis-tributed to all ladies upon leaving the hall. See you there!Dick Underdown, President

Please do not park in spaces obviously desig-nated for cars. The entry ways will be the same as always—on both sides of the bit tree. HOLIDAY PARK ACTIVITIES FOR FEBRUARY Greetings Neighbors! It is difficult to believe that it is time

for the February update of Holiday Park’s HOA activities. How time fly’s when you’re having fun. So, onto the fun scheduled for your February enjoyment!

Before I continue, I want to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to everyone that supported the “HOA New Year’s Eve Dance” on December 29th with “Eddie & The Edsel’s”, who were “FANTASTIC”! From the individuals that hung the snow flakes, set up the hall, decorated for the evening, at-tended the dance and cleaned up at the end of the night and restored the hall to be “BINGO READY”, THANK YOU! Forgive me for not naming names. I don’t want to forget anyone.

A dance is scheduled for Saturday, February 2nd from 7 – 10 pm. Music will be provided by “Saxyduo”. Come and enjoy an evening of fun and relaxation with your friends and neighbors! Bring your own “adult beverage”, some snacks and your danc-ing shoes and enjoy yourself. Don’t dance? Come anyway and enjoy listening to the music. It’s a fun night out for a very rea-sonable cost of $7 per person.

There is a “Horse Race” scheduled for March 5th! The theme is “A Day on the Farm”. Doors open at 6pm, tickets are $6 per person. You can purchase “funny money” and place your bet on your favorite pony. Again, as always, it is a BYOB affair. Ticket Sales will take place in the Phase 2 Bridge Room from 8–10 am, February 4th & 5th. Yes, this is early, but necessary, due to all the other Park activities.

HOLIDAY PARK'S GOT TALENT! (DON’T WE?)Greetings Friends & Neighbors!

There was a time in Holiday Park when the residence looked forward to the annual Holiday Park talent show. There were singers, tap dancers, Kitchen Bands and more. Those who did not entertain were entertained. As time went on, and the en-tertainers were no longer able, or available, to entertain, the “Talent Show” became a memory. The purpose of this article is to determine what interest, IF any, there is in resurrecting the annual talent show in some format. Gary Branch, past direc-tor, has agreed to direct again, IF the response warrants it. IF you believe it is worth pursuing the idea, would you be willing to be an active participant? To this end we are asking you to call Gary Branch (941-976-3810) or myself, John Rabideau (941-423-0580) to cast your vote, for or against, the concept. Holiday

mitted photograph fits the category selected, by the photog-rapher of the picture being submitted. The judges will have the option of disqualifying a photograph that is not properly clas-sified. The decision of the judges will be final.

All photographs shall be printed on photo paper that is 8.5

x 11 inches. The photo can be printed as an 8.5 x 11 or 8 x 10, glossy or matte, color or black & white, with or without a border. Healthier.Dancing reduces stress and depression, increases energy

and serotonin, improves flexibility, strength, balance, endur-ance, strengthens bones, boosts cardiovascular health, in-creases mental capacity by exercising our cognitive process, and increases dynamic rapid-fire decision making as it creates new neural paths in the brain. And it’s fun! Find a partner, male or female and join us on Tuesdays.Jan & Dave Baker 508-758-2049

CRIBBAGE

MODERN LINE DANCING CONTINUES Sheila Terry has been gracious enough to lead the modern line dance classes in the Main Hall, ev-ery Thursday afternoon from 1 pm to 2:30 pm. Modern line dance is done to a wide variety of genres of music, so if you are not a “country music” lover, you can still enjoy the

dancing. Country music is still used, but it is not all country. Sheila has reviewed those dances that the group has previous-ly learned, and is in the process of teaching some new ones, just to keep everyone’s interest peaked! If you are brand new to line dance, the class is slow enough that you can pick up the step/terminology required. And of course, lots of fun and ca-maraderie in the class, to make it fun for everyone! As well – line dance is not strictly for women. Lots of men enjoy line dancing – so if you are single or you don’t have a partner who dances, come join! I am sure you will enjoy it. A good pair of shoes securely fastened to your feet should keep you comfort-able. Sandals are not recommended – you can easily twist an ankle with sandals, and we want to keep everyone healthy and happy!

For the 2020 season, modern line dancing will return to Tuesday afternoons – the more advanced class at 1 pm, and the slower/less experienced class (for brand new people mostly), at 3pm. Join the group – they will save a spot on the floor for you!

If you are interested in joining, please email Carol Larocque at [email protected]. She will add your name to the mailing list, so you receive the notices on a weekly basis, as well as learning what new dances you will be doing. For contact info, please call Yvonne Warner at 734-776-6592 and Sheila Terry at 614.946.9895 Good luck to all! Carol Larocque

TENNIS NEWS

At the January's meeting, after donuts and coffee, ev-eryone filled out a card with their necessary medical/in-

surance information. These will be handy, in case of a health emergency on the courts! The club also welcomed new mem-ber, Norbert Auger. Following the meeting, the Gasparilla Quad Tourney was held - 8 people on one court proved to be a fun, strategic challenge! Thanks to organizer Andy Mulzer, who tallied the Hardys squeaking by the Laurels by 2 points! Participants' appetites were satisfied with hearty soups, chili, fresh veggies and yummy desserts! Kudos to the Social Com-mittee, for organizing a culinary classic! Next meeting is Feb.. 9th, followed by the Valentine's Tournament. Reminder: No Round Robin on Thurs., Feb.. 21st and Mar. 7th (league play). Jim Shatford

MEMORIAL BRICKS We are selling bricks for the Memorial Pathway. The cost is

$50.00 for three lines with 16 letters in each line. If you want to see what they look like, stop by the pathway to the Gazebo and see what is already there. They don't have to be a memorial for someone. All you should do is stop by the office and pick up a form, fill it out and make a check payable to the HOA and give them to one of ladies in the office. Any questions, please call or see Frank Lampe @ 423-7457.
