FROM THE DESK OFEmily Davenport
Dear parishioners,It is such a blessing to finallybe calling Sandusky home!My name is Emily Davenport, and I am the new Life Teen Coordinator (youth minister) for the Tri-Parish. I know thatmany of you have been praying
for me for some time, and I want to thank you for the prayers and the many welcoming smiles as I have moved into my new home here.
I am originally from St. Louis, Missouri where I was involved with youth ministry as a teen myself for many years. As someone who firstencountered Jesus because of the joyful witnessof many youth ministers, it is a JOY to be stepping into that role in this community.
I graduated from Truman State University in2018 and then spent the last year serving as afull time missionary with Life Teen at one of theircamps, Camp Covecrest, in Middle of Nowhere,Georgia.
When I’m not doing ministry things, you canusually find me catching up with friends over acup of coffee, horseback riding, baking, or eatingice cream. I also love to sing, paint, and playguitar, but I don’t claim to be awesome at any ofthose things.
I love getting to know new people, so please don’t be shy introducing yourself! Keep your eyes peeled for information about the events for teens that will be coming soon. I can’t wait to get going.
Peace,Emily

STEWARDSHIP OF GIVING The term stewardship might sound overwhelming or confusing, but it’s really not! Stewardship is as simple as
spreading the Good News of God to others, lending a helping hand, saving a few extra dollars each week to help the church - or as involved as teaching a class, heading a committee, using your talents and donating your time.
GIFTS OF TREASURE
Stewardship is a way of life - give some of time, talents or treasures today!

There are great things happening in the Catholic Parishes of Sandusky! From the scores of volunteers generously giving their time to help our children learn the Catholic Faith through our Religious Education Program, Edge, Life Teen and Children’s Liturgy of the Word, to those who are supporting adults in RCIA; from evangelization efforts like ALPHA, ACTS, and Walking With Purpose, to the great charitable support found in our Second Sunday collections and Catholic Community Supper; from Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to the talents of our Funeral Luncheon Committees... and much more – our parishes have changed so many lives in our community for the better!
Over the next few weeks, you will be hearing about our upcoming “Renew the Mission” program at each of our parishes. This effort is very important as we move forward our mission to seek and show the face of Jesus Christ.
I encourage you in these upcoming weeks to spend time in prayer and discussion with your family reflecting on what we do– and more importantly, what we could do – individually and together as a parish family, to see Christ more clearly in our daily lives, and to introduce (and re-introduce) him to our community.
- Fr. Hoyles
Look for updates here in the bulletin, online and on our
social media in the coming weeks!

Sept. 28th & 29th - Mass of the Guardian of Angels
All are welcome to join Holy Angels in celebrating the Parish Feast Day with the Mass of the Guardian Angels celebrated at all Masses, next weekend, Sept 28th and 29th. Let’s give thanks to our Angels and pray for their continual protection and guidance over our parish. Hospitality will take place after the 8:30 and 10:30 Mass.
Sandusky Catholics are invited to attend a special Mass for the Sick at the 4pm Mass at St. Mary’s. This is a great occasion to offer special prayers for sick family member's and friends. We will also celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick with our parishioners who are in need of healing because of some serious illness or because of their age. If you would like to be anointed at the Mass for the Sick, please contact one of the parish offices before October 2nd to register. Parishioners from any of the parishes are welcome to be anointed at this Mass.
Oct. 5 - Mass for the Sick
The Rosary: Our Blessed Mother Holds Our Hands
Why do we pray the Rosary? An important reason is because Our Lady of Fatima requested this of us. With the growing numbers of separations and divorces, and with so many children without the warmth of family, now more than ever we must pray the most Holy Rosary.
The Rosary, for centuries, has turned sinners into saints. If you are among those who have packed away your Rosary beads in a jewelry box or drawer or another special place, get out those beads and pray the Rosary with Jesus’ Mother.
The month of October is always remembered as the Month of the Rosary. We all know many things about the Rosary but I thought I’d share some of my personal reflections on the Rosary.
I learned the Rosary from my Mom. Everyday we, as a family, would recite the Rosary. She taught me how important the Rosary is for the family. As a child, I was naughty, not giving much attention to prayer. One night she said “Come let us say the Rosary.” I said “No”. This is what she told me, “If you don’t pray, no food.”
When we say the Rosary, we enter the School of Mary. We learn how to go to Jesus. Mother Mary is the teacher and we are the learners. The easiest and the quickest way to know Jesus better is to go to Her. Daily recitation of the Rosary will help you get to know your Mother Mary better. By getting to know Mary better, you will in turn get to know Jesus better.
When we hold the Rosary, She is holding our hands. We should feel safe and protected when our Mother holds our hands. Hold the Rosary tight. She is holding you; no need to worry. Whenever I can’t get to sleep, I hold the Rosary in the palm of my hand. When I can’t think of anything for a homily, I pray the Rosary and it works. As a priest I want to hold Mother Mary’s hand always so that I’m protected and safe. I am sure you also wish the same.
When more than one person prays the Rosary, it is even more powerful. Pray as a family, parish and community. If parents pray the Rosary daily for their children, the Blessed Mother will take care of them. By reciting the full Rosary, we place a crown of roses on her head and also relive the life, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus. Do the best we could and our blessed Mother will do the rest.
Finally, don’t ever forget to hold the Rosary because She is always a Mother HOLDING YOUR HAND. Jesus I Trust in You.
Yours in His service,Fr. Chris

Mass Intentions for 2020All three Sandusky Catholic Parishes will begin accepting Mass In tentions for calendar year 2020 on October 1, 2019. Mass offerings can be delivered to the parish office of the church where you would like the Mass to be offered. In order to be fair to everyone, Masses cannot be “reserved” via telephone or email.
Because church law limits the number of intentions for each Mass, and because there are a considerable number of individuals who would like to have Masses offered for themselves and/or their loved ones, eachindividual will be limited to a maximum of six (6) Mass offerings per year. If additional Masses are available after January 1, 2020, individuals may make additional offerings for Masses at that time. As in previous years, no offerings will be ac cepted for Mothers Day and Fathers Day. On these weekends, all Masses will be offered for “All Mothers” or “All Fathers.” Also, due to a number of events this coming year that will take all three of our parish priests out of town, a few weekday Masses have been canceled. Please contact the parish office for more details.
