Dear families of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Happy Easter! Or as most other languages prefer: Blessed Pasch—Passover! Pasqua, Pascua, Páscoa, Pâques! Israel’s Passover through the Red Sea to the Promised Land! Jesus’ Passover through the Cross to resurrection! Our catechumens’ Passover last night, and ours once upon a time, through Baptism’s waters to our family’s Eucharist! Welcome, everybody! As someone once said of the Catholic Church, “Here comes everybody!” So in this Jubilee of Mercy, we make our own Saint John Chrysostom’s Easter welcome from fourteen hundred years ago: “Let everyone enjoy this radiant feast! You who fasted from Lent’s beginning, and you who didn’t fast at all, rejoice! The table’s richly set! Come, take from it, everybody, no worries, no embarrassment! All of you, taste the banquet of faith! Enjoy the feast of forgiveness! Let no one grieve for having sinned again and again: pardon has risen from the tomb!” Happy Easter! Blessed Pasch! Welcome, everybody! We traveled through Lent so quickly. It does not seem like forty days. But we might say the best is yet to come. Now we enter a time in the Church to “Rejoice” and be glad. What is the True Meaning of Easter for Catholics?

It is the oldest Christian holiday and the most important feast of the ecclesiastical year. In fact, the dates and celebrations of the liturgical year (including all the Christian movable feasts) are arranged around the central Christian feast of Easter. The Roman Catholic Church always marks Easter on the first Sunday that follows the first full moon of the Spring Equinox. The date therefore changes each year and falls on any day between March 22 and April 25. Easter Sunday starts the Easter season, marks the end of Lent and is the last day of the Holy Week which is also known as the Easter Triduum

(Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday). The true meaning of Easter has deep significance in our lives as Catholics. One practice of commemorating Easter is the joyous greeting of “Christ is risen” and a response of “He is risen indeed!” It reminds us that Jesus is alive and in our midst and he welcomes us in a new life with him. The resurrection of Jesus is a magnificent event that shows the realization of our Christian faith. In 1 Corinthians 15:17, Saint Paul wrote that “unless Christ rose from the dead, our faith is in vain.” By sacrificing himself, Jesus Christ saved humanity from the shackles of sin. His eventual resurrection is a promise of a new life. It shows us that our faith in him is alive and powerful. This event is also a powerful reminder to us all that trusting in God will pull you up even from the depths of despair.

Updates on Maintenance and Repairs at IHM As we refresh our spiritual lives with Christ’s resurrection we can also refresh our lives at Immaculate Heart of Mary. We survived the rains and winds of winter with the roofing maintenance that was done last fall. We ended 2018 with new floors in the Hall and shades on the windows. In January we painted the interior of the hall and added some rugs for the Church. Our classroom floors were cleaned and waxed over the school break in March and they look like new. Now we are getting ready for the projects planned for 2019. You may have noticed the fountain in the plaza being worked on. Part of the broken base is being repaired, timers upgraded and pumps improved. We will be caulking and painting all the exterior buildings of the Church, hall and classrooms. Additional electrical will be run to the front of the Church grounds as well as the back grounds. The landscaping around the plaza will be done and sprinkler systems functioning. Parking lot will be paved and striped. All of these projects have been planned for this year in stages. We want to keep IHM maintained and beautiful. All of this is possible thanks to your generosity.

Estos proyectos que se han planificado para este año en etapas. Queremos que ICM este bien mantenido y hermoso. Todo esto es posible gracias a su generosidad.
