Psalm Response

15th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Entrance Chant: All Creatures of Our God and King

Penitential Rite I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; Therefore I ask Blessed Mary, ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Gloria Refrain

Gospel Acclamation

Nicene Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made; For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (all bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Preparation of the Gifts: Eye Has Not Seen

Page 3

Sanctus (Holy, Holy) Holy, holy, holy Lord God of host. Heav’n and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest! Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna...

Mystery of Faith

Amen

Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: Have mercy on us, have mercy on us.(repeat)/ Grant us peace. Grant us peace.

Practicing Catholics (those at Mass each week and regular at confession) are invited to receive the Sacrament. Non practicing Catholics should go to confession before receiving Holy Communion. Non Catholics are welcome to come for a blessing (cross your arms over your chest).

Communion Chant: We Give You Thanks 1. For the bread and wine we share here, for the friends that we embrace, for the peace we find in healing, for all who gather in this place, for the faith of those around us, for the dead and all those here, for the hope we find in mem’ry, for the love that draws us near:

2. For the movement deep within us, for the stories that we bring, for the signs of God’s compassion, for the journey that we sing, for the Word that holds our promise, for the gifts that we can claim, for the wonders that surround us, for the songs that sing our name: Refrain

3. For the water bringing new life, for the fragrance of release, for the fire that blazes forward, for the call to bring forth peace, for the blindness now enlightened, for the bound that are now free, for the brightness of your new day, for the kingdom we will be: Refrain

With this Bread

Page 4

1. To offer assistance when others are blind to the need, To give loving care to each other is planting God’s seed. Walking the promise and falling on mercy, believing we’ll walk with you.

2. Washing the wounds of division, we see to ease pain. Sharing the burden of others, like God’s gentle rain. Befriending the one who is lonely and lost, believing we’ll walk with you.

3. We hold the key to our future as we share our souls, nurturing love in a time when compassion unfolds. Dancing in joy, sharing in wonder the prayer that we sing to you.

Song of Praise: Voice of Christ 1. O Lord, you bless us each day with gifts from your hand. Now as our cup overflows, may we too bring forth.

Refrain: We the hands, we the eyes, we the voice of Christ. O faithful God, we entrust our treasure to you heart.

2. The sparrow neither sows nor reaps, has storehouse nor barn. And flowers neither spin nor weave, yet they wear royal robes.

3. The Lord hears the cry of the poor; the lives of the weak he shall save. Blessed those who care for the poor; happiness is their reward.

Sending Forth: Sing to the Mountains

Pastor’s Page Page 7 Reading the Face of God XXIII Discernment Desolation may in fact reveal our limits, but I believe there is more. When steel is being produced it undergoes “testing by fire” which then fuses and purifies the elements of iron and carbon into an alloy which is much stronger than its constitutive elements. The steel is subjected to intense heat, which may be seen as an analogy for the experience of desolation. That experience is like the purifying and strengthening fire that burns out the impurities of our selfishness and timidity and fuses the soul to the Spirit of Jesus. Perhaps if our lifes were all consolations we would be soft and weak in our love. This is true in marriage, when the couple prom-ises “for better or worse”, subsequent testing by means of the “worse” will help the couple to learn to love unselfishly and to learn that when one feels betrayed or disappointed by their husband or wife, it is possible for the hurt party to emerge from this desola-tion with a strengthened love. The fire of love purges all that is weak. It is also true in our relationship with the Lord, when we are tested by the desolations we too easily conclude that God is punishing us, but again if the desolation is allowed by God, but undoubtedly sent by the devil, it can strengthen us, and when we have experienced the fire of the test, we find that it reveals who we really are and at the same time strengthens us. When we have undergone desolation it can fuse our life to Jesus making us much stronger than we could ever be on our own. I think that was my experience in the seminary; when I felt desolation and prayed

through them, I emerged stronger, and ready for mission and ordination. IHM Pray for us Father Jerry
