Is it true suction strainers are bad to put in my hydraulic system?Suction strainers are very useful in a hydraulic system because they will stop larger contaminants that may have entered the reservoir from reaching the pump. This will help to prevent damage to the pump and extend it's life. You must remember to clean the suction strainer periodically so it doesn't become clogged with debris. If it is not kept clean a vacuum condition on the suction side of the pump will be created which may cause cavitation to occur in the pump. This will damage the pump and could ultimately result in it's failure.
