 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Memphis, Tennessee â  July 20, 2015 â On July 18, 2015, Troy Goode died after being arre sted by the Desoto County Sheriff's Depart ment. Mr. Goode was a 3 0-year-old chemic al engine er, a devoted husband, and a loving father of a 15-month-old son. Troy attended Christian Brothers University, where he received a Bachelors of Sc ience in Chemical Engineering w ith honors. After graduating from CBU, Troy worked for nexAir, a l ocal industrial supply company. As a pl ant engineer, Troy custom-des igned a 3,500 square-foot hydrogen  gas plant operating in Memphis. Troy was an animal lover and often volunteered his time worki ng for lo cal charities such as the Family Safety Center of Memphis and Shelby County. On July 18, 2015, at around 7:45 p.m., Troy was arrested by the Southaven Police  department, apparently for disorderly conduct. According to eyewitnesses, Troy was held down by multip le police officers and hogtied. After paramedics arrived, Southa ven police strapped Troy onto a stretc her face-down and still hogtied. Troy was then transferred by police away from the scene, and he was e v entually taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto. At around 9:00 p.m., family members who called Baptist were informed Troy was in  stable condition, but that they would be arrested for obstruction of justice if they came to the hospi tal to check on him. Less than an hour later at 9:56 p.m., an employee of Baptist called Troy's wife, Kell i Goode, and informed her that Troy had passed away. The family has retained Ballin, Ballin & Fishman. The family's attorneys are ac tively investigating Troy's arrest to determine exactly what caused the death of an active, healthy, 30-year -old man. The attorneys are concerned with the amount of force used in Troy's arrest and troubled by the  police officers' conduct toward his family and the public. Eyewitnesses to Troy's arrest have confirmed that Mr. Goode was hogtied. Eyewitnesses hav e also stated that Troy was saying, "I can't breathe" while strapped face-down to the stretcher. The attorneys a re aware of at least two cell-phone videos tak en by bystanders at the scene. According to eyewitnesses, officers threatened to arrest anyone taking c ell phone footage of Troy's arrest or the restraints being used by police. Attorneys for the family ask tha t anyone with a cell phone video or anyone who may have information about Troy's arrest or death contact Ba llin, Ballin & Fishman. Tim Edwards and Kevin McCormack, the familyâ s attorneys, are sending a letter today requesting that the Mississippi Attorney General conduct an investigation into Troy's death and the conduct of the officers
