After a number of new enrolments we have settled on 21 classes. We have included a list of teachers in this newsletter. We also are very excited to announce that we also have a Support Class-Autism in our school. We are holding this class for Bardia Public School whilst it is being built. We have been lucky to have some new staff join our team. We welcome Mrs Potter, Mrs Hezemans, Mrs Hayden, Mrs Vera, Miss Loeu, Mrs Hunt (SLSO) and Mrs Graham (SLSO). Wedding bells have been ringing at Sackville Street Public School. Congratulations to Mrs Robson (nee Ryan) and Mrs Varela (nee Hay-Hendry). We wish them both a lifetime of happiness. WELCOME KINDERGARTEN We welcomed 70 kindergarten students this year. Our Keen Kinder transition has proven to be a success with all students settling very quickly into their classes. They were so excited to start and I thank our parents for allowing us to teach such amazing and happy children. SEESAW This year all classrooms will be using the Seesaw App. Seesaw is a digital portfolio that gives you real-time glimpses into your child's school day. Seesaw helps you stay in the loop and gives you an opportunity to support your child's learning at home. Going K-6 also allows all staff to comment and encourage student success. It is also a great way to communicate with your child’s teacher as well as keep you up to date on school news. I am looking forward to working with our school community this year through our parent forums. It is definitely going to be a very fulfilling year achieving our goals.

SISA This year our school is embarking on a Sports in Schools program that focuses on building teamwork, resilience and confidence in students. This term students K-6 are participating in dance, social skills and team games. Already the response from 3-6 students has been outstanding. This happens every Monday with K-2 starting next week. There is no cost to parents for this incredible program. The school has chosen to pay for the program this year. Notes have been issued to all children.

From the Deputy Principal Hello to all in the Sackville Street community and welcome back to a brand new school year. Teachers and students are lucky in their jobs. Each school year brings a new change, variety, challenges and adventure. I’m looking forward to sharing the 2018 journey with our students, teachers and families. We welcome new staff this year as you will see on the list of classes we’ve included. We have also welcomed many new enrolments. We are excited about our new commitments to sport, student reward systems and ways we engage with our community- just to name a few. As always I would like to assure the community that my office has an open door for ideas, concerns or just a chat. I have served this community for going on 23 years and my commitment to the families in this area remains as strong as ever- wouldn’t be anywhere else! I hope to see many of you next Tuesday at the Meet the Teacher Evening. MEET THE TEACHER EVENING TUESDAY 13 FEBRUARY 2018 Next Tuesday we look forward to hosting our annual ‘Meet the Teacher Evening.’ After consideration of feedback, we have opted to change the format. This year we will run our BBQ as usual but rather than have large stage meetings, our teachers will be in their own classrooms where you can pop in and meet with them informally and discuss your child. This is a time for you to meet the class teacher and find out about school and class programs. It’s also a perfect time to provide the teacher with any helpful background information about your child. Keep in mind the teacher has only just met your child and so will not have detailed progress information just yet. You will also be able to pick up a detailed booklet that’s been prepared by the stage’s Assistant Principal to help you with information about the year ahead. The teachers will be in classrooms from 4:00-6:00pm. The BBQ will also be running during this time. COLLECTING CHILDREN AFTER SCHOOL Parents are expected to have their child collected by 3:00pm every day or organise for before and after school care. Teachers cannot supervise students beyond the 3:00pm bell time. If you can’t be on time, as occasionally unforeseen things happen, then we ask that you please contact our office to let us know so we are able to make the situation less anxious for your child. Any child not picked up by 3:05pm will need to be collected from the Principal’s or Deputy Principal’s office. This is not a situation we want, as we have meetings and other job related tasks at that time of the day. Under no circumstance should you leave a child in a car when coming into the school. Mrs K Lyneham Acting Deputy Principal UNIFORM SHOP Uniforms are now available from the office. Order forms can be completed in the morning ready for collection in the afternoon. We accept EFTPOS or cash. We are currently out of school hats and will advise as soon as new stock has arrived.
