ITSSocial Work

”I would like to join the Australian Defence Force as a social worker so I can support families of Defence members. Therefore I am studying a Master in Health and Welfare - Social Work. This programme will provide me with the required skills to pursue my dream and gave me the advantage of studying in Sweden.”

– Botimi Osede

This programme gives you the opportunity to con-duct change work and to improve your knowled-ge in national as well as international social work. Studies at the Master’s level implies an opportunity for you to deepen your knowledge and broaden your career opportunities.

THE PROGRAMME Social work concerns the condi-tions of life, needs and experiences of socially vulne-rable people. The point of departure is to try to under-stand and explain social phenomena and problems at the individual, group and societal levels, and also to create opportunities for change. The understanding of social issues builds on perspectives of systems, power and rights, and the analysis of these is often intersec-tional. You will develop a practical understanding of problem solving and change processes when it comes to people in socially vulnerable situations.

You will study Social Work against the background of the broader area of health and welfare. Issues concerning equality and participation, professional knowledge and development as well as creativity and innovation are in focus. You will also develop your understanding of leadership, groups and organisations

as well as evidence-based praxis and evaluation. The programme is given in English and you will read the courses in Health and Welfare together with students from other Master’s programmes and research studies. The programme runs for two years but may be completed after one year with a Master’s degree of 60 credits.

FUTURE AND CAREER A Master’s degree in Social Work within the field of health and welfare will consi-derably improve your skills and develop your current or future work within the national and international welfare sector. The programme will also give you new perspectives in work with clients and will open the way to continued studies at research level.

Not to mention the fantastic practice facilities in a beautiful location and lots of performance opportunities.”

Furthermore, the campus has extended opening hours and gives time and space for students to reflect on their professional praxis, while still providing a generous amount of contact hours with faculty and collaborative pianists.”

– Cathal Killeen, clarinet

Piano”The Academy of Music and Opera at Mälardalen University provides a masterful combination of individual and group courses, trainings, exercises, and concert performances all of which are an excellent foundation for deep learning and mastering of theoretical and practical music techniques. EDUCATION The International Business Manage-ment programme aims to prepare you for the chal-lenges of international business in the 21st century. It is a three-year Bachelor’s programme that provides the basis for professional specialisation in the area of Business Administration with a focus on management issues in an international perspective. An integral part of the programme is close contacts with busi-ness, society, teachers and other students. We invite guest lecturers from University partners, industry, and alumni; which adds to the international perspective beside the international body of students and lecturers in the program. Thus, you may already create your network for future business life during your study years. It is highly recommended, and all students have the opportunity to participate in an exchange programme at a partner university in another country for one semester. This will give you the opportunity to develop your intercultural and language skills, as well as creating your own personal knowledge portfolio.

The learning activities include traditional lectures, active participation in exercises, paper writing, busi-ness simulation games, presentations and discussions in seminars. The study programme develops your personal skills concerning oral/written presentations, creativity, entrepreneurship, critical thinking, infor-mation searches, and the assessment of material and teamwork.

FUTURE AND CAREER The broad scope of the curri-culum serves to provide the theoretical basis as well as the skills and tools needed for a career in public, private or non-profit organisations. In addition, the program equips students with analytical thinking in order to continue their education in postgraduate level. After graduation you may for instance pursue a career in international management, project manage-ment, marketing, purchase and sales, or even become an entrepreneur and start your own business.
