A set of foundational values have also been developed which reflect the needs of our community and the aspirations we have for our students. Our foundational values are: Lifelong Learning and Creativity; Sustainability; Community; and Caring. As parents and community members, I believe we all have a responsibility to ensure we continually model these positive and supportive values to our students. To make sure we are being the best role models, we all need to be mindful of the way we talk to, and about each other, and we need to ensure that we do not put other students or parents down in any way. We also need to ensure we model appropriate ways to deal with issues that occur in our community. Reminder about Student Health Issues As there has been a suspected case of Impetigo reported at school this week, we are asking all parents to check their children for any signs of this condition. Although Impetigo is not usually a serious condition, it is very infectious and if not treated promptly complications may occasionally occur. Impetigo is a bacterial infection of the skin caused by the same bacteria that commonly cause sore throats. It can cause small blisters on the skin which break and become covered with a yellow crust. Impetigo commonly affects the hands and face although it can spread to other parts of the body, especially if the skin is broken. If you suspect your child has Impetigo, you should attend your doctor for confirmation and treatment. Children diagnosed with Impetigo should remain out of school until the sores have stopped blistering or crusting, or until 24 hours after starting appropriate treatment. We have also been alerted to an increase in the number of community members suffering from Gastroenteritis symptoms. If your child is suffering from any of these symptoms, please ensure that they remain at home until 48 hours after the symptoms have passed. As you can imagine, these types of conditions spread very quickly in a school setting, so we really appreciate the diligence of everyone in this matter. Blankets and Coats for the Homeless and Refugees I would like to congratulate two of our senior students, Sarah and Sophie, who are collecting blankets and coats for the homeless and refugees who don’t have warm clothes for winter. What a wonderful example of our ‘community minded’ and ‘personally and socially responsible’ attributes of our Ways of Contributing in our Learner Profile! Sarah and Sophie have asked that if you have any of these items sitting around and not being put to good use, please bring them to Room 23 between 8:50 and 9:00am each morning. All old blankets and clothes will be washed before they are distributed. All donations will need to be brought to school by Thursday 9th June. The First Strathfieldsaye Cub Scout group will look after any donated items until Thursday 9th June and then they will be given to Bendigo Health. The girls would like to thank you in advance for your support. Here are some wonderful ‘Grandparents and Special Friends Day’ reflections from our 001 students …..
