Crazy Horse MemorialThe world’s largest mountain carving in progresshonors the North American Plains Indians. Devil’s Tower National MonumentDesignated in 1906, the nation’s fi rst national monument is actually the core of a volcano, and is sacred to tribes with connections to the Black Hills. Badlands National Park75 miles east of Rapid City, The Badlands containone of the world’s richest fossil beds. Ancientmammals such as the rhino, horse and saber-toothed cat once roamed here.
