Crazy Horse MemorialThe world’s largest mountain carving in progress honors the North American Indians. Devils Tower National MonumentDesignated in 1906, the nation’s first national monu-ment is actually the core of a volcano, and is sacred to tribes with connections to the Black Hills. At 865 feet high with 7.4 miles of paths, it offers great rock climbing and hiking. Badlands National ParkSeventy five miles east of Rapid City, the Badlands contain one of the world’s richest fossil beds. Ancient mammals such as the rhino, horse and saber-toothed cat once roamed here.
