President’s Message I invite you to our 156

th Markdale Fall Fair. Be a part of

our friendly competitions. From livestock to flowers to

all sorts of baking and arts and crafts, there is the

opportunity to exhibit your favourite things. Come and

have a visit to view the hundreds of exhibits, including

our Junior Fair, that are being shown and on display.

Maybe you would like to see the 4-H Calf Show, the

light and heavy horses as they go through their paces,

bid for ‘treasures’ at our Silent Auction, take in the Art

Show in the upstairs hall, or watch the horse pull as those

gentle giants and their drivers show you what horsepower really is.

It’s all there for you when you drive `Along the Country Road` to the Markdale Fall Fair.

Senior Ambassador’s Message

At first you may think a year is a long time, 365 days right?

8,760 hours? Or how about 525,600 minute, but isn’t it

funny that when you have an exciting year it absolutely flies

by? That is exactly what this year has done. It feels like I was

crowned only a week ago, that riding in the Santa Claus

parade with Hayley was merely two days ago and playing

pickle ball and “Grooving”, with the other lovely ladies and

gentlemen who have the privilege of representing their

communities, was only yesterday.

The privilege of representing the Markdale Fall Fair as Senior

Ambassador will go down as one of the best years of my life.

I have met so many amazing people and I know that this

experience will only continue to blossom. Thank you to all of

those who made this amazing year possible, and a special

thank you to Craig who not only kept us organized and informed about everything, but

also provided us with everything we needed, ranging from rides to and from district

meetings all the way to floats for parades.

Thank you to everyone that has made this year everything that it has been; I appreciate

it from the very bottom of my heart.

Junior Ambassador’s Message It has been an honour to have been chosen to be the 2013/14 Junior Ambassador for the Markdale Fall Fair. My favourite duty was handing out the ribbons and meeting new people last year at the fair. I will continue to participate and encourage others to participate in the Markdale Fall Fair.

Thank you to all the volunteers that make the Markdale Fall Fair a success. I look forward to meeting other Junior Ambassadors at the Miss Mid-Western Pageant this summer. Good luck to the 2014/15 Junior Ambassador. I hope that they make as many memories as I did during the year.

RULES AND REGULATIONS FAIR CONTACT (Complex): 519-986-3301

PLEASE NOTE: No prize money will be awarded for indoor exhibits unless the entry form for each entry has been completed (including address and telephone number) and returned to Secretary by 11:30 a.m., Friday August 22nd, 2014. 1. All exhibitors 18 and over must be members of the Markdale Agricultural Society. A $5 membership fee may be applied from 2013 entry deduction or paid on entry. Any Teen or Youth exhibitor showing in an adult class must pay $5 membership fee unless restricted. 2. The fee of $5 entitles all persons to one membership card. Only registered members may compete. The membership card will be honoured at the fairground entry as admission for one day only – August 22 to 24, 2014. 3. A $5 membership fee will be retained from all prize totals for each exhibitor, excluding specials, and applied to 2015 membership fee. 4. Unless otherwise stated, on prize winnings over $10 won by any member, 10% will be retained by the Society for indoor exhibits, 15% for outdoor exhibits. 5. Exhibitors are limited to one entry per section in all classes unless otherwise stated. 6. All grain, fruit, vegetables, root crops must be grown in 2014 on land occupied by the exhibitor. 7. All livestock and other exhibits must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor and satisfactory proof of ownership must be produced if judges so require. All animals must be insured by owner; the Markdale Agricultural Society assumes no risk to or caused by exhibited livestock. 8. All entries for Homecraft division exhibits may be entered on Thursday evening, August 21

st from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. or Friday morning, August 22

nd from 8:30 a.m. to close

at 11:30 a.m. 9. No exhibits are to be removed from the exhibition hall until after 4:30 p.m. on August 24

th, or unless otherwise stated by the MC at the conclusion of the awards’

presentation. Prize money for prior removals will be forfeited. 10. Exhibitors and the public are strictly forbidden to enter the exhibition hall until all indoor judging has been completed.

11. No exhibitor or assistant will be allowed to interfere with any judge. Nor will anyone, on the Fair premises, use any contemptuous or abusive language to any judge or officer of the Society. Anyone doing so will forfeit their right to any prizes and will be asked to leave the fairgrounds immediately. 12. Upon the discovery of fraud, deception or dishonest practice – in the preparation, ownership, age of any article or animal in any class in which it does not rightly belong, or any representation concerning any article exhibited which may be affected – the Society will withhold payment of prize awarded and may prohibit any such person or entrant exhibiting in any class for one or more years. The Society may also publish the name of person. 13. Directors have authority to refuse any entry suspected of being diseased. 14. Judges may use their own discretion in awarding 1

st or 2

nd prize, and in all cases

where they do not think the animal or article worthy, they can withhold the higher prize. All items are judged against class standards and given a rating: several 1

place exhibits may be awarded in each section. 15. An exhibitor disputing prize placing/judging will be required to submit a written protest, accompanied by a $10 fee, to the Markdale Agricultural Society. This written protest must be received BEFORE the first board meeting after the Fair which will be held the second Thursday in September. The Directors will meet to settle the dispute at this meeting. Disputes received after this date WILL NOT be considered. An exhibitor with a dispute regarding their prize payout will follow the same format and fee, and the protest must be received prior to the Society’s Annual General Meeting held in November. 16. The exhibition hall will be open for public viewing August 22

nd from 7 p.m. to 10

p.m., August 23rd

from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and August 24th

from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Due to value of exhibits, admittance will be allowed only during these times. 17. All persons admitted to fairgrounds must comply with traffic and parking regulations as directed by those in charge as a precaution against injury to animals, themselves or others. Bicycles, skateboards and roller blades are not allowed in the fairgrounds during Fair. The Society assumes no responsibility should injury occur. 18. While Fair Directors take every precaution under the circumstances to ensure safety of articles brought to the Fair, owners assume risk of exhibition. Should there be a loss, the Directors will give all assistance in their power toward recovery but will not make any payment for value of lost property. 19. In case of insufficient gate income due to weather or other conditions, the Society reserves the right to pay only a percentage of prize money to be determined at the first scheduled board meeting after the Fair.

20. Prizes offered at Fair, if not competed for, become property of the Society. 21. The Treasurer will be prepared to issue cheques for prize money as soon as possible after the Fair. All cheques and vouchers must be cashed no later than September 30

2014. After that date, they will become null and void and the amount will go to the Society as unclaimed. 22. Persons wanting to sell goods, tickets or any articles will be allowed to do so only by paying a fee, at the discretion of the Society. All vendors must obtain prior approval to sell goods and services, tickets or any other articles. 23. All those obtaining privileges at the Fair (fully under the control of the President, Secretary or designate) must obey directions or forfeit privileges. 24. The Directors reserve the right to change, add or delete any rule as seen fit, up to and including the Fair.

RULES GOVERNING STOCK CLASSES

1. No single animal is entitled to more than one prize in one section. 2. Each animal must be provided with a chain or halter and securely fastened and led out for judging when called on. 3. All classes must come when called. Inquire of committee in charge as to procedure of judging. This rule will be strictly adhered to. 4. Heavy draft, general purpose and agricultural horses must be attached to a vehicle in hitch classes. 5. Single drivers, roadsters and carriage horses must be attached to a cart or buggy. Saddle horses must conform to saddle standards. All light horse entries may be shown double or single. 6. Purebred must be registered. Age is as of January 1, except under one year. 7. When there are less than three entries in a livestock class, prize money will be awarded as 2nd and 3rd amounts for 1st and 2nd only. 8. Each livestock exhibitor must have proof of liability insurance. 9. Anyone 12 years old and under must wear a helmet in speed events. It is also recommended that anyone over the age of 12 wear a helmet in speed events.

Class 18 O.A.A.S. Hand Quilt Competition

The first and second placed quilts in Class 17, sections 1-6, if entry tag is marked as made and quilted by exhibitor, will be judged again for the "Markdale Fall Fair Grand Championship Hand Quilted Quilt" Prize Money: 1st: $25 donated by Bluewater Quilters' Guild; 2nd: $20 and 3rd: $10 donated by Ruth Ann Hellyer.

Rules: a Entries must be solely made and hand quilted by the exhibitor. b Entry quilts must be a minimum of 324" measured on the perimeter. The Markdale Fall Fair Grand Championship Hand Quilt will then be eligible to compete in the District 10 competition which takes place in fall 2014. The Champion quilt from District 10 competition will then proceed to the Provincial competition to be held at the O.A.A.S Annual Convention at the Fairmount Royal York, Toronto in February 2015. Subject to change if a member of the Markdale Agricultural Society is unable to attend the Convention.
