Assistant Director, RIT Alumni Relations; chapter advisor Kiersten Shinrock Blankley

Eric Pope

Hi lovely sisters! It has been an honor and pleasure to serve as a co-adviser with Dawn to our chapter since last winter. For those that don’t know me I am #202 from the spring 2005 Delta Delta new member class. After graduating from RIT I moved to St. Louis to get my Masters in Social Work (MSW) at Washington University. While there I had the amazing opportunity to work with the newly chartered Gamma Zeta chapter at Webster University as their advisor. Teaching them about DPhiE's values and history, as well as about Greek life was an incredibly rewarding experience. It was so much fun to help them think about creating family lines with founders, and starting their own traditions that would live on with the life of the chapter. In May of 2012 I said farewell to St. Louis, and returned to Rochester and RIT as an Assistant Director of Alumni Relations. In

Alumni Relations I specifically work with RIT's athletic teams, student groups, and Greek organizations to plan alumni events and reunions. Unsurprisingly, my favorite project thus far has been working with our chapter to help them plan the 20 year reunion in May of 2015. I have also been advising the Epsilon Mu chapter at Brockport since May of 2012, but it has been more amazing to see how much our own Beta Upsilon chapter has grown and changed. I remember the days of a 15 person chapter, and last spring the house was at total with 60 members. Now as I become a Big to the 7th, and watch new girls join the sorority it's important for me to remind the active members that the chapter is their's to shape and bring forward. This past year, the current Leadership Team has made great strides towards improving new member education and activities for the sisterhood to foster growth, philanthropy, and friendship. The move to semesters at RIT has also brought many other changes: formal recruitment in the fall, Mr. RIT moved to fall, Be-You-Tiful Week moved to spring, and the terms of oce for Leadership Team changing to academic year instead of spring quarter through the following winter quarter. YITS and Love <3

Eric Pope has been the Associate Director for Greek & Departmental Assessment at RIT since July 2012. Prior to working at RIT, Eric Worked at Gannon (2007-2012); Iona College (2005-2007); & Edinboro (2003-2005). He has advised fraternities and sororities at all three institutions. He holds a Bachelor’s in History & Masters in Counseling (Student Personnel Services) from Edinboro University. Eric is a brother of Theta Chi Fraternity at Edinboro University in Edinboro, PA. Eric sees RIT Greek Life as an “untapped asset on our campus. [The] current size is roughly 5.5% of campus, [and it] has the potential to be much larger. Organizations offer a lot to the campus and we need to promote it to non-members more. DPhiE is an excellent example of a group working to grow and become a bigger presence on campus. [I am] very excited to be at RIT

and very excited about the possibilities!” Eric’s vision for Greek Life is to become the “premier fraternity and sorority community in Western New York.” He stops at nothing to promote a healthy and thriving Greek community on campus. Having worked with Eric personally as I sat on the College Panhellenic Council executive board from fall 2012- spring 2013, I can vouch for his positive impact on our community in just the short time that he has been on campus.

Fall RecruitmentAlong with the switch to semesters our recruitment process had to undergo some changes as well. Formal recruitment was moved to Week 4 rather than Week 2. This gave us a whole month to recruit girls to sign up! We had over 100 girls signed up and about 50 girls were matched with a chapter. Formal recruitment was also moved to the weekend rather than the weeknights. This allowed for more PNM’s to be able to make it to the events because class is obviously not an issue on the weekends! We also increased the time spent between the PNM’s and the chapters. Formal recruitment was an amazing success this fall, with more PNM’s signed up than ever before. We are holding workshops and working on sisterhood activities to prepare us for another successful formal recruitment in the fall.

Socials DPhiE continues to hold epic socials with over half of the Fraternal community on campus. From corn mazes to Gatsby themes, the sisters come together to make connections with as many Greek mem-bers as possible.

Haunted Trail This year’s Haunted Trail that we co-host with Sigma Chi was held the Thursday and Friday of Brick City Weekend. We had a blast and scared lots of people - all while raising over $2,800.

Lock-In This fall our Sisterhood Spirit chair, Margot Dayton, hosted a lock in for all of the sisters! Sisters came to the house for basically a giant slumber party lled with laughs, bonding exercises, and of course, snacks!

Fall Down Fall Down this year was organized by our Special Events chair, Courtney Von Dwingelo. We had a blast dancing the night away at Highland Park. Sisters and their guests enjoyed treats including apple cider, homemade caramel pretzel bark, and customized mason jars as our party favor.

Intergenerational Cleanup DPhiE and members from organizations across RIT gathered to help elderly citizens of Monroe County clean up their yards. This is the 3rd year of this event organized by the Monroe County Office of the Aging.

Syracuse ColonizationSome of our active sisters visited Syracuse University’s DPhiE recruitment as they begin to recolonize on their campus. Syracuse University was home to the third ever chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon and we are so excited that they are coming back!

Upcoming Events

Engage U This event is hosted by DPhiE National Headquarters is a smaller version of the Convention we all know and love. By traveling around the country, IHQ can ensure that it will be easier for more mem-bers of more chapters can attend these one-day workshops. We sent 10 sisters to the local event this fall. They learned so much about DPhiE across the nation and came back with great stories.

Mr. RITThis year’s Mr. RIT event was an amazing success. We had almost a full house in the auditorium and some amazing contestants. We raised over $3,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Our winner, Tom Weekes, stated that this event has completely changed his perspective on Greek Life at RIT, and "The only reason I kept sane throughout it is because you DPhiE girls are actually cool.” Thanks, Tom!

Holiday Party This December we held our annual holiday party complete with secret santa gifts exchanged between sisters and our Shining Star Santa Claus - Chad!

PEARLSSome of our sisters have gone above and beyond, hosting amazing PEARLS like a resume/cover letter workshop featuring Michelle Magee, Associate Director for Student Services at the RIT Office of Cooperative Education and Career Services (Sarah Ann Jump) and the first of a series of self-image workshops (Colleen Mann, Caitlin Hochuli, and Jenna Bossert).

February 9, 2014 - Formal Money is Due to Courtney Von Dwingelo February 16, 2014 - 9pm Bowl For Breath

March 1, 2014 - 6pm Formal

April 26, 2014 - 12pm Spring Weekend

Continuous Ongoing BiddingTo make the most of the extra time granted by the semester system, we decided to give out our bids this fall rather than holding recruitment in the spring. Our new members will start education in the early weeks of next semester, and will have almost 2 months to be integrated into the sorority before summer comes around! The spring Delta Phi pledge class will (so far) be a class of 6 members, putting us at a grand total of 59 sisters before graduation.
