Lodge Chief’s Bonnet My Brothers, My name is Nick Fatolitis and I am a Brotherhood member of Tocabaga Chapter in the mighty Timu-quan Lodge. I am an Eagle Scout of Troop 475 and have held numerous leadership positions including, but not limited to, Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Tocabaga Chapter Chief, and the 2013 Section Semi-nars Chairman. After discussing differ-ent ways to improve the lodge with current lodge officers and advisers, I’ve come up with a list of ar-eas in which we can improve upon. This list includes atten-dance at lodge events, communications, and encouraging members to take on roles in lodge leadership. Lodge’s can always improve in the attendance. Attendance has a direct correlation with how well we perform inductions, retain Or-deal members, and score well in our Scouting’s Journey to Excellence Program. A second area of improvement is communication. We can focus a lot more on communica-tion and follow through with our Ordeal candidates, troops, and lodge members as a whole. Communication must be timely and use the types of communication that are effec-tive for all lodge demographics. I’d like to find a better way we can encourage new Ordeal and Brotherhood members to step up and play an active role in the leadership of our lodge. I think all of these improvements are attainable. I want to lead you in making this lodge better than ever. I have the time, energy, and desire to be a great lodge chief of Timu-quan Lodge. Nick Fatolitis 2013-2014 Lodge Chief ►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►

Lodge Adviser’s Corner My Brothers! I would like to congratulate the Timuquan youth on their successes at the 2013 S-4 Section Conference. They did a remarkable job planning their strategy and playing as a

team. It showed what a group of young men can accom-plish when working together. However, their journey is just beginning. In the next 12 months many of those same youth will lead and plan for Timuquan Lodge’s success. If they can manage the re-sponsibilities of leadership as well as they managed the competition at the Section Conference, they will be able to look back on a successful year for the Lodge. The Lodge is faced with many challenges: losing membership, minimal ceremony team members, and nonexistent camp promo-tions. We must each do our part to reach out to our cus-tomers, the Troops of West Central Florida Council. We cannot sit back and wait for the Troops to request elections or camp promotions visits. We must go to them! Please accept the challenge to help Timuquan grow and succeed! Get involved! Let’s work together to be recog-nized for successful ceremonies, inductions, and camping promotions at the 2014 S-4 Section Conference. Yours in Service, Ken Knaebel 2011-2014 Timuquan Lodge Adviser

Uniform of the Day Ordeal candidates should arrive Friday evening in their work clothes and MUST bring their uniforms for Satur-day evening and Sunday wear. Mem-bers should arrive Friday in uniform and bring work clothes for Saturday’s projects. Everyone will be in full uni-form after work projects are done Sat-urday until the conclusion of the week-end on Sunday. Uniforms give continuity and a sense of belonging. Let us be proud of being a Scout and an Order of the Arrow member. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►► Administrative Vice Chief, Andrew Case Mrs. Alice M. Cliff, Associate Adviser Fellow Brothers, I have been in Timuquan Lodge for the past 4 years and have been the Lodge Treasurer for the past 3 years. In that time, I have created a budget for the lodge. I want our lodge to continue to grow over the next years and I want to see some new faces joining the LEC and our ceremonial team. The easiest way to have people continually come to our weekends is to give them a responsibility so that they want to come to the weekends. Last summer, while talking to people from other lodges, I have had the chance to hear great ideas that we can do to improve our lodge. I want to use the OA representative program to our advantage. Currently, in most troops, the OA rep is a position that is just given and the people in this position have no idea what it means to be an OA rep, or what they have to do as an OA rep. The purpose of the OA rep program is to have someone in the troop go to their local chapter meetings each month and report back to the OA members in the troop what has occurred at the meeting and what the up-coming events are in the chapter and the lodge. With the OA reps in their troops telling people what the upcoming events are, we should see an increase in attendance at our weekends and events. Over the past years, our atten-dance has been slowly dropping at our weekends and you, the youth of the lodge, are the best representatives we have to spread the word of how AWESOME our lodge is! Sincerely, Andrew Case Administrative Vice Chief ►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►► Inductions Vice Chief, Trevor Case Mr. Matthew Kamat, Associate Adviser Dear Brothers: My name is Trevor Case and I am currently a Life Scout in Troop 26 and a Brotherhood member of our lodge. On the troop level, I have been Senior Patrol Leader a number of times. In the lodge, I was last year’s Activities Chairman. If you had fun at the March weekend, it is because I was able to find amazing people to put together the weekend in my absence. It shows how I am able to organize a committee to get the job done well. I have served on different committees to include Ceremo-nies, Brotherhood and Re-tention, and Treasurer. I would like to become more

active in our lodge, I would like to see more Ordeal mem-bers make it to Brotherhood, and I would like to see current members of the lodge have a more important role in retain-ing fellow brothers. If we worked together, I believe that as a lodge we could exceed the goal of Journey to Excellence while adding more brothers into or brotherhood. I am ready to serve my lodge. Remember, a great leader must learn to follow before he learns how to lead. WWW, Trevor Case Inductions Vice Chief ►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►► Brotherhood and Retention, Zak Zukowski Mr. Matthew Dodge, Brotherhood and Retention Adviser Dear Brothers, We would like to thank Alex Smith for serving the lodge in this position last year. ►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►► Positions are available for some Arrowmen who wish to step up to the challenge. The lodge is in need of some youth members interested in serving and chairing some committees including Camp Service, Camp Promotions, Unit Elections, Chuckwagon, Community Service, or Communications. If you are interested, Nick needs to hear from you. The lodge is also in need of an adult to serve as the Publications Adviser. The publi-cations committee produces The Eagle and The Eagle Vision during the year. The vacancy was created 2 years ago when Mrs. Alice Cliff filled the position of Associate Adviser and Mr. Pollock was not able to continue due to extensive work commitments. The other adult position that needs an adviser is Community Service. That vacancy

was created when Mr. Vann resigned. If you are interested, please contact Ken Knaebel.

Civic Duties Performed Congratulations to all of the young men who were in attendance at the March weekend. It was during this event that the election of lodge officers was held for the 2013-2014 year. Since then, our new chief has been busy recruiting commit-tee chairs and our lodge adviser has been appointing committee advisers. These Arrowmen will attend Lodge Leader-ship Development Conference to be scheduled for August. Many thanks go out to the leaders from last year. No one will know of the many untold tasks that have been performed. Our new leadership is as follows:

Lodge Banquet celebrated at the March Fellowship Chief Jakob Fritz called the banquet to order and offered his opening remarks. The invocation was given by AVC Casey Sammel. Dinner was prepared by the Chuckwagon Crew and served by some of the Vigil honor members. Another awesome job by the Chuckwagon Crew and Vigil Honor members. After dinner, the program began with the recognition of the 2012 Vigil Honor class. See page 4 for the official photo and the translation of Indian names. Each Vigil Honor member was presented with their new sash and medallion. Thank you to the official photographer for arriving in time to take the photo. Vigil Chairman Jakob Fritz was tasked to present the John C. Whitehurst Award to this year’s recipient, Scott Peck. The award is named for John C. Whitehurst who served Pinellas Area Council in the mid to late 1960s. It announced that Kevin Ronayne would receive the Lee LaCroix Award. Special Sashes to be Given to NOAC 2015 Attendees Arrowmen attending the 2015 National Order of the Arrow Conference will get a once in a lifetime souvenir, after a vote by the national committee at the annual planning meeting this past December.

At the meeting, committee members approved a proposal to give each NOAC participant a special edition red sash. The idea was first proposed by the 100th Anniversary Youth Advisory committee, which is being led by past National Vice Chief Preston Mar-quis, to give a special Order of the Arrow sash to every participant and staff attendees of the 2015 NOAC. These sashes will differ from those currently worn in that the colors will be reversed, with a white arrow emblazoned on a red sash. Unlike the black signature sashes sold at previous NOAC’s, these will have snaps and will be wearable by all. For the national conference, Ordeal, Brother-hood, and Vigil Honor sashes will be made in the current style and given out at a special program to be unveiled. This souvenir sash will be worn for only a designated period of time, and should be viewed as a commemorative item. The rarity of the sash is noteworthy, as only those present at NOAC 2015 will receive them. Any extras produced will not be sold. Interestingly, reversed color sashes have been made before. For the 1950 NOAC, national committee members wore Vigil bands of reversed col-ors so they could be easily found by lodge members that had questions about the Order being fully integrated into the Boy Scouts of America.

For the 75th anniversary of the Order, Dr. Carl Marchetti, national chairman at the time, donned a red souvenir Vigil sash with a white arrow created for national committee members. These sashes had "75th anniversary" stitched into them above the top Brotherhood bar. In 1993, a full length black sash with snaps with a white arrow was created as a retirement gift by Dr. Marchetti for national committee members, and a hand written note was included with each sash. In celebration of 100 years of the Boy Scouts of America, Bob Mazucca, past Chief Scout Executive, had a red sash made with the 100th anniversary BSA logo for committee members as well. Make sure to save the date for NOAC 2015, and get ready for an awesome adventure in commemoration of our centennial celebration. The 2015 NOAC will be held from August 3-8, 2015 at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan and will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Order of the Arrow.
